I had 6 seperate overpayment notices for a total of $7,655. Took me 3 months of fighting but finally got them waived after I could prove it was their mistake. Document EVERYTHING and dont give up!
This is a known issue their customer service reps are aware of but can't fix without supervisor intervention. The only way to resolve it is to speak directly with a tier 2 support person. Regular agents don't have access to the waiver submission database. Ask for a supervisor specifically when you call.
Dude the SAME thing happened to me last week!! Like exactly the same - 8 weeks used out of 14 weeks eligible and then suddenly "benefit year ended." I spent 4 hours on the phone and finally got through. They said it was a system error on their end. The rep reset something and my remaining weeks showed back up the next day.
you might have triggered a review flag in the system. did you start working part time or have any change in your income reporting? that sometimes causes the system to mistakenly end your benefit year early.
FWIW, I had similar issues with my California unemployment account while traveling. What FINALLY worked was using a residential VPN (not a commercial one) AND clearing all browser data AND using private browsing. Those commercial VPNs are all on government block lists at this point.
lmaoooo i love how NY unemployment expects people to just not pay rent or buy food for months while they "investigate" 🤡 like what are we supposed to live on?? vibes and prayers??

for what its worth i had the same issue and had to just keep trying the 888 number for almost 2 weeks before i got through. no magic solution just persistence. its a terrible system.

Dealing with ny unemployment is literally hell on earth. I'd rather do my taxes blindfolded than try to navigate their phone system again.
