Was a bit nervous or untrusting at first, but my calls went thru. First time the wait was a bit long but their customer chat line on their page was helpful and put me at ease that I would receive my call. Whatever you do, don't miss the tax filing deadline waiting for this form! File an extension NOW if you haven't gotten your 1099-G yet. It's free to file an extension and gives you 6 more months. Just go to irs.gov and fill out Form 4868.
Extension is the way to go. Just remember you still have to PAY what you estimate you owe by the regular deadline, the extension is just for filing the paperwork.
Just wanna say THANK YOU to whoever recommended claimyr. After reading this thread yesterday I decided to try it and actually got through to someone who helped me! They said my address was showing differently in two different parts of their system (wat???) and that's why my 1099-G went to my old place. Agent sent a new one and gave me a confirmation number to track it. FINALLY some progress after months of frustration!

Has anyone tried going to an actual unemployment office in person? I'm wondering if that might be faster than this phone/email nightmare.
They closed most physical offices during covid and never reopened them. The few that are open require appointments which... you guessed it... you can only get by calling the impossible-to-reach phone number 🙃

Has your mom tried contacting ID.me directly? Sometimes the issue is on their end not DOL. They have a support system and might be able to push something through on their side. Worth a shot while waiting to get through to unemployment.
Actually we haven't tried that. Good idea, I'll have her contact ID.me support directly too.
Im in the same situation!!!!! It's been 7 WEEKS and nothing. ID.me verified me but NY unemployment shows nothing except my waiting week. ive been filing religiously every sunday. At this point im about to lose my apartment. The system is a joke.

4 weeks is sadly the new "normal" for first time claims... but i wouldn't wait longer than that. keep certifying every week but also try to get someone on the phone to make sure there isn't a flag on your account holding things up.
Everyone saying "it's normal" is part of the problem. IT'S NOT NORMAL! It's completely unacceptable that NY unemployment makes people wait 4-8 weeks for benefits they need NOW. Contact your state representatives and complain. The system only changes when enough people raise hell about it.

Here's a weird tip that worked for me: contact your state senator or assembly member. They have staff dedicated to helping constituents with state agency issues. My fraud case was resolved in 3 weeks after my senator's office got involved. Before that I spent 2 months getting nowhere with NYSDOL directly.

Can we talk about how BROKEN the NY unemployment system is??? Like how hard would it be to verify someone's identity BEFORE sending them thousands of dollars? The fact that this is happening to so many people is just proof that the entire system needs to be rebuilt from the ground up.

•my friend works for NYSDOL and says they know at least 10% of all claims paid during covid were fraudulent. That's BILLIONS of dollars. They just don't have the staff to investigate.
