Was a bit nervous or untrusting at first, but my calls went thru. First time the wait was a bit long but their customer chat line on their page was helpful and put me at ease that I would receive my call. Update: just called the NY tax department and they confirmed this is 100% legit. Interest on government payments is always taxable. The lady I spoke to said they've been getting calls about this all day.
How did you even get through to them? I've been trying for days!

A writen mandamus? is that like a court order? idk much about legal stuff but that seems like a lot of work when you could just hire one of those unemployment advocates. My sister used one and they handled everything for her

So I was about to throw my phone after 3 hours on hold when my buddy told me about claimyr.com. Used it and got through to an actual human who fixed my claim that had been 'pending' for 6 weeks. took 9 days for my account to update after the video call then another 3 days for money to hit my bank. they told me 14 days too but it was faster. video call lady was nice but the whole process was weird af, felt like i was applying for a top secret clearance not just tryin to get my unemployment lol
The whole ID verification thing is because of the MASSIVE amount of fraud happening with unemployment. My neighbor works for DOL and says they're catching hundreds of fake claims daily. It sucks for legit people like us but at least they're trying to protect the system. Mine took 13 days to process back in February.

Yeah frustrating for sure. But blame the scammers, not DOL. They're just trying to make sure real people get their benefits.

Fun fact: NY unemployment system was built in the 1980s and runs on COBOL. They had to call retired programmers back during covid because nobody knows how to maintain it anymore. The whole system is literally held together with digital duct tape. 🤡

I was in your exact situation last year. Finally got through after using claimyr.com to reach an agent. Turns out there was a flag on my account because my former employer challenged my unemployment claim. The agent removed the hold and I got all my backpay two weeks later. Definitely worth trying!

Not to be that person, but like... why didn't you research unemployment benefits when you lost your job? That's literally the first thing most people do. All this info is on the NY unemployment website.

•That's a little harsh. The NY unemployment website is notoriously confusing and the rules about partial benefits are buried in pages of technical language. Most people don't know about this option.

u have 3 days (72 hrs) from when ur first eligible to file or u lose those benefits forever. thats the official rule. BUT sometimes they'll make exceptions for "good cause" - not knowing about partial UI benefits might count depending on the agent you talk to.
