New York Unemployment verification code going to wrong phone number - need working contact number
Having trouble getting into my unemployment account online. The system keeps trying to send verification codes to my old phone number but I can't access it anymore. Anyone know a working number to call them? Really need to update my contact info.

The main number is (888) 209-8124 but good luck getting through. Been trying for 2 weeks straight and it's always busy or hangs up on me 🤮

Found a solution! Used this service called claimyr.com that calls and waits on hold for you. Yeah it costs $20 but they actually got me through to someone. Here's a video about how it works: https://youtu.be/Rdqa1gKtxuE

A detailed solution for phone verification issues: 1. First try the main number (888) 209-8124 2. If that doesn't work, use claimyr.com - yes it costs money but it's guaranteed to get you through 3. You can also try reaching out to your state representative's office 4. Email them at: labor.sm.constituentsservices@labor.ny.gov The system is frustrating but don't give up. Document everything and keep trying different channels. The phone service claimyr.com has been a lifesaver for many of us stuck in similar situations. Whatever you do, DON'T create a new account - that'll just cause more problems.

Had the exact same issue! Got locked out for 3 weeks because of the old phone number problem. What worked for me was calling the (888) 209-8124 number at exactly 8:00 AM on a Tuesday - apparently they have more staff on Tuesdays. Took me 6 tries but finally got through to someone who updated my info in like 5 minutes. Keep calling right when they open, that's your best bet! Also make sure you have your SSN and claim confirmation number ready when you call.

•Thanks for the Tuesday tip! Never thought about which day might be better to call. Gonna try this tomorrow morning at 8 sharp 🤞

Just went through this nightmare myself! Here's what finally worked after being locked out for almost a month: 1. Call (888) 209-8124 at EXACTLY 8:00 AM - set multiple alarms 2. Have your SSN, confirmation number, and new phone number written down before you call 3. If you get the busy signal, hang up and immediately redial - don't wait 4. Tuesday/Wednesday mornings seem to have better success rates Alternative option if you're desperate: I used claimyr.com after 2 weeks of failed attempts. Cost me $20 but they got me connected within an hour. Not ideal but beats being stuck indefinitely. Also pro tip - once you get through, ask them to add a backup email for account recovery. Could save you from this mess in the future! Stay persistent, the system is broken but you WILL get through eventually 💪

•This is super helpful! Just want to add that when you do get through, ask them to verify your address too - sometimes that gets mixed up in their system and can cause more delays later. Also write down the agent's name and reference number if they give you one, makes follow-up calls way easier if something goes wrong again 📝

OMG thank you all for this thread! Been dealing with the exact same issue for 2 weeks now - verification codes going to my old phone that got stolen 😭 Definitely gonna try calling at 8am tomorrow and also looking into that claimyr service everyone's mentioning. This system is so frustrating but at least now I have some actual strategies to try instead of just randomly calling all day. Will report back if I get through!

•Hope you get through tomorrow! 🙏 Just wanted to add - if the 8am thing doesn't work, try again around 12:30pm right after lunch break. Sometimes their call volume drops for like 20 minutes and you can slip through. Also keep your phone charged and maybe use a landline if you have one - heard cell calls sometimes get dropped easier. Good luck and definitely update us!

Been lurking on this thread and finally decided to jump in because I'm dealing with the EXACT same nightmare right now! My phone got damaged last week and now I can't get the verification codes to log into my account. Reading through all these comments is giving me hope though - sounds like the 8am calling strategy and the claimyr service are the real MVPs here. Quick question for everyone who got through - do they let you update your phone number immediately during the call or do you have to wait for it to process? Also wondering if anyone knows if they can temporarily disable the 2FA while they update your info? Really don't want to get stuck in an endless loop of needing codes I can't receive 😅 Thanks everyone for sharing your experiences, this community is a lifesaver when the actual system fails us!

•Hey! When I got through they updated my phone number immediately during the call - like within 2 minutes the agent had it changed in their system. They can't disable the 2FA but what they do is temporarily bypass it for that session so you can log in right after the call and verify the new number works. Just make sure you test logging in while you're still on the phone with them in case something goes wrong! The whole process took maybe 10 minutes once I actually got connected. Definitely try that 8am strategy first before paying for claimyr - but honestly the peace of mind might be worth the $20 if you're really stuck 🤷♂️

Just wanted to share my experience since I literally just got through this exact same issue yesterday! Had my phone stolen 3 weeks ago and was completely locked out of my unemployment account because the verification codes kept going to the old number. What finally worked for me: 1. Called (888) 209-8124 at exactly 8:02 AM (literally set 3 alarms for 7:58, 8:00, 8:02) 2. Got busy signal first try, immediately hung up and redialed 3. Got through on the 4th attempt around 8:06 AM 4. Had my SSN, claim confirmation number, and new phone number ready to go 5. The agent updated everything in about 5 minutes and had me test login while still on the call Pro tip from the agent: she told me Wednesdays and Thursdays are actually their lowest call volume days, not Tuesdays like I thought. Also if you get the automated message about high call volume, stay on the line - sometimes it will still connect you after a few minutes. For anyone considering claimyr - I was about to use it but decided to try the early morning strategy one more time first. Glad I did! But honestly if you've been trying for weeks, the $20 might be worth your sanity. Don't give up everyone, the system is trash but persistence pays off! 💪

•This is exactly the info I needed! Thank you so much for sharing all the details 🙏 I've been stuck for almost a month now and was getting desperate. Love that you got the insider tip about Wednesdays/Thursdays having lower volume - definitely gonna try tomorrow morning at 8am sharp. Really appreciate you taking the time to break down the whole process step by step. Gives me hope that I can actually get this resolved without having to pay for a service. Fingers crossed I have the same luck you did!

Just went through this EXACT same situation last month! My old phone number was linked to my account and I couldn't get verification codes for weeks. Here's what saved me: 1. Try calling (888) 209-8124 right at 8:00 AM sharp - literally the second they open 2. If you get a busy signal, hang up immediately and redial (don't wait on hold) 3. Have ALL your info ready: SSN, confirmation number, new phone number written down 4. Be persistent - it took me 8 tries over 3 days but I finally got through The agent was super helpful once I connected and updated my phone number in under 5 minutes. They also let me test logging in while still on the call to make sure everything worked. If the calling doesn't work after a few days, I'd honestly consider that claimyr service people are mentioning. $20 sucks but being locked out of your benefits for weeks sucks way more. Don't create a new account whatever you do - that'll just make things worse! You got this! 💪

•Thanks for all the detailed steps! Just wanted to add that if anyone is still having trouble after trying the 8am strategy, you can also try calling during lunch hours around 12:30-1pm when some agents might be coming back from break. I've heard that sometimes creates a small window with lower call volume. Also make sure your phone is fully charged before calling - nothing worse than getting disconnected after waiting forever! Really appreciate everyone sharing their experiences here, makes this whole nightmare feel less isolating 🤞

Been through this exact nightmare! Got a new phone and couldn't access my account for almost 3 weeks because the codes kept going to my old number. Here's what finally worked for me: **The 8AM Strategy (FREE option):** - Call (888) 209-8124 at EXACTLY 8:00 AM when they open - Have your SSN, claim confirmation number, and new phone ready - If busy, hang up immediately and redial (don't wait) - Try Wed/Thu mornings - supposedly lower call volume **Backup plan:** - Claimyr.com if you're desperate ($20 but they actually get you through) - Try calling again at 12:30 PM during lunch break **Important tips:** - DON'T create a new account - it'll make things worse - Ask them to add backup email for future recovery - Test your login while still on the call with the agent - Get the agent's name/reference number for follow-ups It took me 6 attempts over 2 days but the agent updated my info in 5 minutes once I got through. The system is broken but don't give up! You WILL get through eventually. Stay persistent and try multiple time slots if the morning rush doesn't work 🙏

•This is such a comprehensive guide! Thank you for breaking everything down so clearly 🙌 I'm in the same boat right now - got locked out when I switched carriers and my old number got reassigned. Been trying the main number for days with no luck but reading all these success stories gives me hope. Definitely gonna try the 8AM strategy tomorrow and if that doesn't work I might just bite the bullet and use claimyr. Really appreciate you mentioning the backup email tip too - would've never thought of that but makes total sense to prevent this from happening again. This whole thread has been a lifesaver honestly!

OMG this thread is literally saving my life right now! 😭 Just switched phone carriers last week and of course forgot to update my number with unemployment before my old line got disconnected. Been locked out for 4 days now and was starting to panic about missing my weekly certification. Reading through everyone's experiences here is giving me so much hope though! Definitely going to try the 8AM strategy first thing tomorrow morning - got my alarm set for 7:58 AM and have my SSN and confirmation number already written down and ready to go. Really appreciate everyone sharing the specific timing tips about Wed/Thu being better days too. If the calling doesn't work after a few attempts I think I'll try that claimyr service. $20 is definitely better than being stuck for weeks like some of you went through. Quick question - for those who got through, did you have to verify your identity with like security questions or anything, or did they just need the basic info (SSN, confirmation number)? Want to make sure I have everything ready before I call. Thanks everyone for sharing your stories and strategies - this community support means everything when the actual system is completely failing us! 🙏

•Hey! When I got through they just asked for my SSN and confirmation number to verify my identity - no additional security questions needed. The agent was actually super quick about it, just wanted to confirm I was the account holder and then immediately helped update my phone number. Make sure you have your new phone number ready too since they'll test it while you're on the call to make sure the verification codes work! Good luck tomorrow morning - you got this! 🤞 And don't stress about the weekly cert, they can usually help you backdate it if you miss it due to technical issues like this.

Just wanted to jump in and say THANK YOU to everyone sharing their experiences and strategies here! 🙏 I'm dealing with this exact same issue right now - my phone got water damaged last weekend and I can't receive the verification codes to access my unemployment account. Was starting to really panic about it but reading through all these detailed success stories is giving me hope that I can actually get this resolved. Going to try the 8AM calling strategy first thing tomorrow (Wednesday) since multiple people mentioned that's a good day for lower call volume. Got my SSN, confirmation number, and new phone number all written down and ready to go. If that doesn't work after a few attempts, I'll definitely look into the claimyr service - seems like $20 is totally worth it to avoid being stuck for weeks. Really appreciate how supportive everyone is being in this thread and sharing all the specific tips and timing strategies. Makes such a difference to know other people have gotten through this same nightmare successfully. Will definitely report back once I (hopefully) get it sorted! 💪
