NYDOL ghosting me since October - no unemployment benefits, what to do?
I've been unemployed since October and haven't received any unemployment benefits. I've sent multiple letters and emails to the Department of Labor but haven't gotten any response. I even took a short contract job in January to cover my bills. Has anyone else experienced this? What should I do to get my benefits?

Ugh, I'm in the same boat. Been waiting since November and crickets from DOL. It's like they're playing hide and seek with our money š

ā¢Tell me about it! I've been calling every day for weeks. It's like trying to win the lottery just to talk to someone.

ā¢Have you guys tried reaching out to your local representatives? Sometimes they can light a fire under DOL's a**

ā¢Good idea! I'll give that a shot. At this point, I'd dance the macarena in front of the DOL building if it'd help š

Listen up, folks. Here's what you need to do to get your unemployment benefits: ā¢ First, make sure your claim is actually filed. Log into your DOL account and double-check. ā¢ If it's filed, look for any outstanding tasks or questionnaires. Sometimes they hide these and won't process your claim until they're done. ā¢ Call the DOL every single day. Yes, it sucks, but persistence pays off. ā¢ Document EVERYTHING. Every call, email, letter. You might need this later. ā¢ If you took other work, report it accurately. Don't give them any reason to delay your claim. ā¢ Consider reaching out to your state representative or senator. They can often expedite claims. ā¢ Join Facebook groups for unemployment support. Sometimes you can get insider tips. ā¢ If all else fails, consider filing a complaint with the state ombudsman. Remember, the system is overloaded, but that doesn't mean you should give up. Stay persistent!

ā¢Quick question - how do you find out who your state rep is?

ā¢Just Google '[Your State] find my representative'. Most states have a website where you can enter your address and it'll show you who represents you.

I found a method to get someone on the phone. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/Rdqa1gKtxuE

ā¢Sounds sketchy. How do you know it's legit?

ā¢I was skeptical too, but I tried it and it actually worked. Got through to an agent in about 2 hours instead of calling for days.

ā¢Wait, we have to PAY to get our benefits now? This system is so broken š¤

ā¢I get it, it sucks to pay. But for me, it was worth it to finally get my issue resolved. Your call tho!

has anyone else noticed that the DOL website is always "under maintenance" when you try to log in late at night? its like they dont want us to file our claims š¤

PRO TIP: If you're having trouble getting through on the phone, try calling right when they open. I got through after only 20 minutes on hold!

Anyone else feel like they're stuck in a kafka-esque nightmare with the DOL? I swear, every time I call it's like I'm talking to a different agency š¤”

ā¢Kafka-esque is right! I half expect to wake up one day transformed into a giant bug, still on hold with unemployment šš

Hey OP, have you checked if you're eligible for any other benefits while you wait? Sometimes there are local programs or food banks that can help tide you over.

ā¢Thanks for the suggestion! I'll look into that. Every little bit helps right now.

I'm convinced the DOL is run by a bunch of sloths on lunch break. How else do you explain the glacial pace? š¦„ā

Guys, I hate to be that person, but have you tried faxing your documents? I know it's archaic, but I swear it worked for me when nothing else did.

ATTENTION EVERYONE: There's a glitch in the system right now. If your last name starts with A-M, try logging in using the Spanish language option. idk why but it's working for some people!
