NY unemployment weekly claim shows 'processed next business day' instead of Monday authorization - system issue?
I always certify for my ny unemployment benefits super early Saturday morning (like 12:30am-1am) and it normally says 'will be authorized Monday'. But this week when I certified, it said 'will be processed next business day' which would be Tuesday since Monday is a banking holiday. Anyone else notice this? Is there something wrong with the unemployment system? I'm freaking out a bit because I need that money to hit my account on time!

The system isn't down, its just that next monday is Presidents Day so its considered a banking holiday. So ur payment will process Tuesday instead.

•Omg I totally forgot about Presidents Day! Thanks for pointing that out. So everyone's getting paid a day late this week?

This is normal for holiday weeks. The NY unemployment system automatically adjusts processing dates when there's a banking holiday. Since Monday (Presidents Day) is a federal holiday, the system correctly shows Tuesday as the next business day. Your payment will likely hit your account Wednesday instead of Tuesday this week. The DOL usually posts a notice about holiday payment schedules on their website and social media accounts a few days before major holidays.

•Thank you for explaining! I totally missed that Monday is Presidents Day. Do you know if this means direct deposits will be delayed by just one day or could it be longer?

•You're welcome! In my experience, it's typically just a one-day delay. So if you normally see deposits on Tuesday, you'll likely see it Wednesday this week. The processing happens Tuesday, and then it follows the normal timeline from there.

Just adding to what others said - yes, it's because of Presidents Day. I've been on NY unemployment for several months now and this happens with every federal holiday. The system actually works correctly in these cases by adjusting the dates automatically. One thing to note: sometimes your bank might hold deposits an extra day after holidays too, so don't panic if it takes until Thursday. Each bank handles holiday processing a bit differently.

•Thanks for the heads up about banks possibly adding another day! I use Chase and they've been pretty consistent but good to know I shouldn't panic if it's not there Wednesday.

OMG I THOUGHT THE SAME THING!!! Freaked out when I saw the different message!! Why don't they just TELL us there's going to be a holiday delay?? Would save everyone so much stress!!!!

•They actually DO announce it! They post notices about holiday schedules on the DOL website and Twitter/X. But yeah, they should make it more obvious in the system itself when you're certifying. Maybe a popup message or something.

I've had issues with delayed payments before and it was SUPER stressful. If you ever need to actually get through to the unemployment office about payment delays (for future reference, not this holiday situation), I used Claimyr (claimyr.com) last month when my payment was stuck in pending for some reason. They got me a callback from an agent in under an hour instead of spending days trying to get through. There's a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/Rdqa1gKtxuE But for this Presidents Day situation, you should be fine - it's just the holiday causing the regular delay.

•Thanks for the tip! I'll keep that in mind if I ever have a real delay. I'm relieved this is just a normal holiday thing.

This happens every holiday week. The NYSDOL systems automatically adjust payment processing dates around federal banking holidays. There's nothing to worry about - it's actually good that their system is smart enough to show the correct next business day! Just to clarify the timeline: They'll process the payment on Tuesday (first business day after the holiday), then depending on your bank, you'll receive it Wednesday or Thursday. Direct deposits can't process on federal banking holidays since the ACH network that handles bank transfers doesn't operate on those days. If you ever see long delays that aren't related to holidays, that's when you should contact NYSDOL.

•Do they ALWAYS adjust for every holiday?? I swear sometimes they've processed on holidays before... or am I imagining things??? 🤔

Thanks everyone for the quick responses! Totally forgot about Presidents Day being this Monday. Feeling much better knowing this is normal and not some glitch in my claim. Appreciate all the helpful info!

speaking of holidays does anyone know if we get paid for the days that are holidays or do they count against us?

•Holidays don't count against your benefits. You certify for the previous week, so the holiday doesn't affect your eligibility or benefit amount. It only affects when the payment gets processed by the banking system.
