Just to be clear - you file your unemployment income on your regular tax return using the 1099-G form. You don't send money directly to NYS Department of Labor for taxes. The only time you'd send money directly to NYS Department of Labor is if you had an overpayment that you needed to repay.
Just want to echo what others said - unemployment and credit are completely unrelated. I work in banking and can confirm that unemployment benefit information is not shared with credit reporting agencies. Your credit score is based on payment history, credit utilization, length of credit history, types of credit, and new credit inquiries. Government benefit programs like UI don't factor in at all.
I had similar confusion and spent weeks trying to get through to NYS Department of Labor by phone to clarify. Finally used Claimyr (claimyr.com) to actually reach a real person - they have a video demo at https://youtu.be/qyftW-mnTNI that shows how it works. The agent was able to explain all the weekly claim requirements clearly and confirmed I was doing everything correctly.
My brother went through this exact thing last year and his employer tried to claim he was fired for attendance issues even though he was clearly laid off with 15 other people when they closed the department. He had to do a phone hearing but won easily because the employer couldn't provide any actual documentation of the supposed attendance problems.

I've been trying to get through to NYS Department of Labor for weeks to ask about my benefit amount calculation and it's impossible! Their phone lines are always busy or they just hang up on you after being on hold forever. It's so frustrating when you need answers about your claim. I actually found this service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that helps you get through to unemployment agents - they have a demo video at https://youtu.be/qyftW-mnTNI showing how it works. Saved me hours of calling and redialing.

•Never heard of that before but anything is better than spending entire days trying to reach someone at NYS Department of Labor. How does it actually work?

•Basically they handle the calling and waiting for you, then connect you when an agent is available. Much easier than the endless busy signals and dropped calls.

Just remember the money is taxable! I made the mistake of not having taxes withheld from my unemployment benefits and owed a bunch at tax time. You can request federal and state taxes be taken out when you file your weekly claims.
