NY unemployment website down constantly - can't check payment status

Has the NY unemployment website been down for anyone else? It completely refuses to let me get into the system to even look at my payment statuses and everything else I need to check. I've tried multiple times a day, different browsers, devices, computers, etc. I'm getting desperate because I need to see if my payments are being processed and I can't even log in to check! Been trying for 3 days straight now and nothing works. I'm at a loss🙄

Yep having the same issue since Tuesday. Can't even get to the login page most of the time. Just keeps loading forever then times out.

The NYSDOL system is undergoing maintenance according to their Twitter page. They're upgrading some backend systems for the 2025 benefit year changes. Should be back up fully by tomorrow morning. In the meantime, you can try accessing it between 3-5 AM when server load is lowest - that worked for me yesterday.

Thanks for the info! I don't have Twitter so I had no idea. Will try the 3-5 AM thing tonight, though that's so inconvenient. Why don't they ever notify people by email about these things??

ANOTHER SYSTEM OUTAGE!!! This is like the 5th time in 2 months! How are we supposed to certify weekly when their garbage system never works?? I'm going to miss my certification window AGAIN and then they'll blame ME for it! BEYOND FRUSTRATING!!!!

I know it's frustrating, but if you miss your certification window due to system issues, you can file for backdate certification. Call and explain the system was down during your certification period - they've been pretty understanding about it lately.

Yeah RIGHT! Last time I tried to call them I was on hold for 4 HOURS before getting disconnected. Their phone system is just as broken as their website!!!

I was having the same problem for days, couldn't get through on phone either. I finally used Claimyr (claimyr.com) to get connected to an actual agent this morning. Only took 18 minutes instead of hours on hold. They confirmed the system issues and processed my certification over the phone. They have a video demo if you want to see how it works: https://youtu.be/Rdqa1gKtxuE

Never heard of this before. Does it actually work? Seems too good to be true considering how impossible it is to get through to NYSDOL.

Worked for me! I was skeptical too but was desperate after trying for days. The agent I spoke with was actually super helpful and fixed my issue right away. Way better than waiting for the website to start working again.

Tried that on multiple devices already. Even tried on my neighbor's computer that had never been to the site before. Same issue everywhere.

This is a known issue. I spoke with a rep this morning who said they're experiencing higher than normal traffic due to the seasonal job layoffs plus the system upgrades they're implementing. The best times to access the system are early morning (before 7am) or late night (after 11pm). If you absolutely need to check your payment status and can't wait, call the automated payment line at 888-581-5812 - that system is separate from the website and should still be operational.

Thank you! I didn't know about the separate payment line. Will try that right now.

Update: Just called the payment line and it worked! My payment was processed yesterday and should hit my account tomorrow. Such a relief. Thanks again for this tip!

anybody else notice the site always crashes right when its time to certify? seems suspicious to me...

It's not suspicious - it's simple server load. When thousands of people try to access the same system at the same time (like Sunday mornings when everyone certifies), it creates massive strain on their outdated infrastructure. That's why they recommend certifying at off-peak hours if possible.

I had the same problem last month when they were doing some other update. What worked for me was trying to log in using the mobile site instead of the regular website. For some reason it was still working even when the main site was down. Try typing m.labor.ny.gov instead of the regular address.

Great tip! Just tried the mobile site and was able to at least see my account summary page. Still getting errors when trying to access detailed payment info, but it's better than nothing. Thanks!

For anyone still experiencing issues, the NYSDOL just posted an update on their social media. The system should be fully operational again by 9am tomorrow. They're also extending all certification deadlines by 3 days to accommodate for the downtime.

They ALWAYS say that and then it never works right. I'll believe it when I see it.

thx for the update! good to know about the deadline extension
