NY unemployment phone certification changed - different message and no processing confirmation?
Did anyone else notice the telephone certification system for NY unemployment has completely changed? I called to certify my benefits yesterday (Sunday) and got a totally different message than usual. The most concerning part was that the automated guy at the end didn't say "your claim has been entered for processing" like he normally does. I'm worried my certification didn't actually go through. I HAVE to use the phone system because I've been getting the same error message when trying to certify online for over a year now. Tech support has been useless about fixing it, so calling each week is my only option. Just wondering if anyone else experienced this change and if their benefits still processed normally?

I noticed this too! Called on Sunday and the whole phone menu seemed different. Got really confused halfway through because the options changed. The recording sounded different too - more robotic than before. But my payment still showed up in my account this morning, so I guess it went through okay despite not saying the usual confirmation.

•That's reassuring to hear yours went through! I'm still waiting for mine to show as processed. Did you do anything different during the call when you noticed the changes?

The NYSDOL updated their telephone certification system last week. The new system processes claims the same way, but they changed the voice prompts and streamlined some of the questions. The confirmation wording changed, but your claim should still process normally. If you want to verify your certification went through, you can: 1. Call the claims inquiry line at (888) 581-5812 to check your certification status 2. Wait 24-48 hours and check if payment status updates 3. Call the certification line again and see if it allows you to certify (if not, your previous certification likely went through) Regarding your online error - have you tried clearing your browser cache completely or using a different browser/device? Sometimes persistent errors are device-specific.

•Thanks for the detailed info! I'll try the claims inquiry line today to check if my certification registered. As for the online errors, yes I've tried everything - different browsers, clearing cache, even my daughter's laptop. Always get the same "system unavailable" message specifically on the certification page. Everything else on the site works fine.

•Glad to hear it still worked for you! I'm starting to feel better about it now hearing others had the same experience. Wish they would warn us about these system changes though!

I've been dealing with the NY unemployment system for years (unfortunately) and they NEVER give advance notice about system changes. It's actually typical that the end confirmation message would change after an update. The important part is whether the system accepted your answers to the certification questions. Have you been receiving benefits regularly until now? If so, and you answered all the questions the same way you usually do, there's a 99% chance it went through fine regardless of the confirmation message change. For what it's worth, I've found that the telephone system is actually MORE reliable than the website for certifications. The site has so many random errors and timeouts.

•Just to add my experience - I've also found the phone system more reliable! The website was down for "maintenance" three weekends in a row in February, but the phone line always worked. They really need to invest in better technology...

I had this exact same issue a few months ago!! The phone system changed and I panicked because I didn't hear the normal confirmation. Called unemployment office literally 47 times but couldn't get through. But then magically my payment appeared two days later just like normal. I think sometimes they make these changes without telling anyone and it freaks everyone out for no reason.

If you're having trouble confirming whether your certification went through, you might want to try Claimyr. I was in a similar situation where I needed to speak with an actual agent after the system updates confused everything. Couldn't get through for days until I used Claimyr (claimyr.com) - they basically hold your place in line and call you when an agent is available. Saved me hours of redial hell. They have a quick video that explains how it works: https://youtu.be/Rdqa1gKtxuE Hope you get this sorted out soon! The uncertainty is the worst part.

UPDATE: Just called that claims inquiry number the other poster mentioned (888-581-5812) and it confirmed my certification from Sunday was received! So even with the new message, it looks like everything is working normally. Maybe try that number to check yours?

For anyone dealing with persistent website errors like the original poster mentioned - this is unfortunately common with the NY unemployment system. Some things that have helped others: 1. Try accessing the site during off-hours (very early morning or late night) 2. If you have a smartphone, try using the mobile data connection instead of your home wifi 3. Try using Microsoft Edge specifically (for some reason it sometimes works better with the NYSDOL site) 4. Make sure any ad blockers or security extensions are disabled for the site If none of that works, you might need to contact their IT department directly at 800-833-3000 rather than the regular unemployment number. Ask specifically for the technical support team.

•Thanks for these suggestions! I've tried most of them already but not using Edge specifically or calling that IT number. I'll give both a try this week. After a year of this issue, I'm desperate for any potential solution.

I just went thru this last weekend!!! The phone system is totally different - the voice sounds like a younger guy and some of the questions are in a different order. But my payment posted today (Tuesday) just like normal. One thing I did notice was the process took about 2 minutes longer than it used to.

Has anyone else noticed that the website has been extra glitchy lately too? I wonder if they're doing a bunch of updates to everything at once. My friend who certifies online said the website looks different too now.
