Strange new certification message when I called NY unemployment this week
Has anyone noticed the automated phone system for ny unemployment certification changed recently? I tried to do my usual Tuesday certification by phone and got a completely different recording. And at the end, instead of saying "your claim has been entered for processing" like normal, it just...ended with nothing. No confirmation at all. Can't check online because I've been getting error messages on the website since around May of last year (tried everything - different browsers, computers, clearing cache, etc). Phone certification is my only option. Anyone else experiencing this change? Should I be worried my claim didn't go through?

Yep, heard the different message today when I certified. I noticed they changed some of the prompts too. The system didn't give me any confirmation at the end either...just hung up. Made me nervous tbh.

•Glad I'm not the only one! Did your payment still come through normally?

•Still waiting, I usually get mine deposited by Thursday. I'll update when/if it comes. Fingers crossed 🤞

•Same thing happened to me! I thought I did something wrong and called back but it wouldn't let me certify again.

I was in this exact situation for MONTHS. Couldn't login online and the phone system was giving me weird messages. Finally I used this service called claimyr.com and got a call back with a real agent within an hour. Talking to an actual person got my benefits flowing again after being stalled for 6 weeks. Worth every penny since I got all my backpay. Here's a video about how it works: https://youtu.be/Rdqa1gKtxuE

•This sounds like an advertisement. Does this actually work or you just promoting something?

•Nah, I was desperate after not getting paid for 6 weeks. I found it on a reddit thread about NY unemployment. The thing actually works - they stay on hold and call you when a human picks up. Saved me from hours of listening to that terrible hold music 😵

•wait hold up - does this actually work or is it just the usual BS? I've been trying to get through for WEEKS

•It worked for me. You pay them, they call DOL, and when they get through they connect you to the agent. My issue was way more complicated than just the phone message changing though.

•hmm I've been burned by so many of these 'services' before... what makes this different?

•They don't promise to fix your claim or anything crazy. They just get you past the impossible hold times. After that, you talk directly to DOL yourself.

I've been certifying by phone for over a year (since their godawful website never works for me either). The system changed about two weeks ago. My payment still came through last week despite the weird ending. I think they're just updating their ancient system and forgot to add the confirmation message.

I just certified yesterday and noticed the diffrent message too!!! Really weird that they would change the system without telling anyone. My advice: call again tomorrow and try to speak with a human just to confirm your certification went through. The whole no confirmation thing is sketchy AF. 👀

•Good luck getting a human on the phone lol. I tried 37 times yesterday.

•Not impossible! Try calling right when they open at 8am. Sometimes I can get through if I'm one of the first callers.

They ALWAYS do this. Change systems without warning, no communication, then act surprised when people panic about their benefits. I swear the ny unemployment system is designed to make people give up. Been dealing with these clowns since 2020 and nothing ever improves.

•FACTS 💯 It's almost like they WANT us to make mistakes so they can say we committed fraud

•Remember when they updated the website last summer and thousands of people couldn't login for like 3 weeks? And their official response was basically "try again later" 🤡

I KNOW EXACTLY WHY THIS HAPPENED! They're updating their system because of the recent issues with fraud. There was a memo about it on the ny.gov website. The recording change is part of their "enhanced security measures" but they did a terrible job communicating it. Your payment should still process normally.

•Do you have a link to that memo? I'd love to read it for peace of mind.

•I'll try to find it again. It was buried in one of their press releases from last month about combating UI fraud.

After spending months getting the runaround from NY unemployment, I can tell you that the fastest solution is getting through to a live agent. I've compiled what worked for me and others here: - First, try calling at unusual times: Wednesday afternoons around 2:30-3:30pm or Friday mornings tend to have shorter wait times. - If that fails, use claimyr.com - they'll wait on hold and call you when they reach an agent. This literally saved my sanity after 40+ failed calls. I got my issues resolved in one call after using them. - Ask for a supervisor if the first agent can't help. Sometimes level 1 reps can't see all the notes on your account. - Take detailed notes during every call including agent name and ID number. - If you're desperate, contact your state assembly member's office. They have direct lines to unemployment offices. The system is frustrating by design, but there ARE ways to get through. Don't give up!

•That claimyr thing sounds too good to be true. How much did it cost?

•They don't charge till they actually connect you. I don't remember the exact amount but it was worth every penny when I got my 6 weeks of backpay resolved. The hold times were 3+ hours when I used it.

•I second contacting your assembly member! Mine helped me after 2 months of getting nowhere with NYSDOL.

i had the EXACT same thing happen!!! the system totally changed and no confirmation at the end. but my payment hit my account this morning, so i guess it worked? the whole ny unemployment system is held together with duct tape and prayers at this point lmaooo

•That's a relief to hear you got paid! Maybe it is just a system update and everything's still processing normally.

Check your bank account in 2-3 business days. If payment doesn't show up, THEN panic and start the endless calling cycle. Until then, assume the system is just being weird as usual. 🤷♂️

Man I feel you on that website error BS. Been dealing with that garbage for months. Have you tried calling the automated line later in the week to check payment status? There's a separate option for that.

•I didn't know there was a payment status line! What number is that?

•Same main number, but press 2 after the first menu instead of 1. Then it'll give you options to check payment history.

not being able to use the website for a WHOLE YEAR?? dude thats not normal. you need to talk to a supervisor and get that fixed asap. something bigger might be wrong with your account.

•I've tried... it's impossible to get through to anyone. The few times I did, they just said to "keep trying" the website 🙄

•Try using claimyr.com to get through to someone. I was in a similar situation and it helped me bypass the 3 hour wait time.

I've worked in government IT (not NY unemployment but similar systems). This sounds like a classic case of them updating the IVR (phone system) but not testing the entire call flow. The good news is your certification probably went through fine despite no confirmation. The bad news is they probably won't fix the missing confirmation message for months because bureaucracy. 🤦♂️

sounds like they rolled out a system update without proper testing (shocker). If you want peace of mind, you could try the governors office. surprisingly responsive sometimes! 518-474-8390

•The governor's office actually helped me last year when I had a similar issue. Took about 2 weeks but they got someone from NYSDOL to call me directly.

Are you using a cell phone to call? Try a landline if possible. Sometimes the phone system has issues with certain cell carriers (happened to me with T-Mobile).

As a temporary solution, ask a friend if you can use their computer to check your account status online. Sometimes the error is device-specific. And clear your cookies/cache before trying.

Everyone saying call at certain times or try different methods... y'all killing me 😂 We all know NY unemployment phone lines are IMPOSSIBLE regardless when you call. I finally got through using claimyr.com after trying for weeks on my own. talking to an agent got my $ unlocked so fast after two months of nothing. saved my apartment fr

•I looked at that site but wasn't sure if it was worth it. Did you have to give them your personal info?

Mateo Rodriguez
•No they just call the unemployment office and then connect you when someone answers. You talk directly to unemployment yourself.

•So I was about to throw my phone after 3 hours on hold when my cousin told me about it. They don't fix anything themselves - they just get you past the hold time. After that you talk to DOL directly. Was skeptical too but it worked
