NY unemployment payments delayed this week? Anyone know what's happening with stimulus?
Is anyone else having issues with their NY unemployment payments this week? Mine is 3 days late now and I'm starting to worry. Also heard something about a new stimulus package affecting unemployment benefits? Anybody got info on either of these things? My landlord is already giving me the side-eye and I need to know if I should be panicking yet.

There's a payment processing delay affecting lots of NY claimants right now. DOL posted about it on their social media yesterday. They're saying 3-5 business days delay for most claims. As for stimulus, there's nothing official yet - just proposals in legislature that might increase weekly benefits by $150 if passed, but that's still being debated.

•Thanks for the info! I wish they'd send emails about these delays instead of just posting on social media. Not all of us check that stuff daily when we're stressed about money. Do you know if we need to do anything or just wait?

•Just wait. The system is processing claims, just slower than usual. If it goes beyond next Monday, then you should try calling. The stimulus thing isn't connected to the current delay - that's completely separate and wouldn't take effect until at least next month if it passes.

I actually called yesterday about something else and the agent mentioned this delay. Apparently their payment processing system had an update that went wrong and they're having to manually review more claims than usual. My payment just came through this morning (2 days late). The stimulus question is separate - that's still in committee and wouldn't go into effect until at least late March from what the agent said.

WOW you actually got through to a real person at NYSDOL??!! I've been trying for DAYS and either get disconnected or told to call back later. How many hours did you have to wait?

•I used Claimyr.com to get through - took about 15 mins total. They connect you directly with an agent instead of waiting through the whole phone tree thing. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/Rdqa1gKtxuE - totally worth it with how impossible it is to reach anyone right now.

My cousin works for NYS (not unemployment office tho) and she said they've been having major tech issues all week. Something about server upgrades gone wrong? I think this is affecting more than just unemployment tbh.

•Yes, this tracks with what I'm seeing. Several state agencies are having intermittent system issues this week. The payment delay is frustrating but should resolve soon. Just keep certifying as normal and the payments will process, albeit with the delay. Regarding the stimulus question - there are two separate proposals currently being discussed that would affect unemployment benefits: 1. The state-level enhancement of $150/week (mentioned above) 2. A federal extension of benefits for long-term unemployed Neither has passed yet, and neither is connected to the current payment delays.

UPDATE: NYSDOL just posted that all delayed payments should be processed by end of day tomorrow (Friday). They're also extending the certification deadline to Saturday this week because of the technical issues.

This reminds me of last year when they switched payment processors and everyone's payments were late for like TWO WEEKS. I nearly got evicted! They never plan these system changes well.
