NY unemployment payment delayed because of Labor Day?
I usually get my unemployment deposit every Tuesday morning, but I'm seeing nothing in my account today. I'm guessing the Labor Day holiday yesterday might be delaying things? Anyone else experiencing this? Should I be worried or is this normal for holidays? I'm counting on this money for rent which is already late, so I'm getting pretty anxious about when it's gonna show up.

Yep holidays definitely delay payments. Whenever there's a bank holiday, everything gets pushed back by a day. I'd expect to see your payment tomorrow (Wednesday). The same thing happened to me on Memorial Day.

•Thanks, that's reassuring. So your deposit came the next day? I just wish they'd communicate this better on their website.

•Memorial Day was different tho, it was on a Monday when certification happens. Labor Day shouldn't affect Tuesday payments as much since we certified Sunday 🤔

•Banks were still closed on Monday tho. So any processing that happens Monday gets pushed to Tuesday, which pushes Tuesday's stuff to Wednesday. It's a domino effect.

After months of dealing with ny unemployment and never getting through on the phone, I finally tried claimyr.com and got a callback with an actual agent in like 30 minutes. Got my payment issues sorted right away. Best decision I made during this unemployment nightmare. Check out their video if you're skeptical: https://youtu.be/Rdqa1gKtxuE

•How does this work? I've been trying to reach someone for weeks about my payment delays

•It calls the unemployment office for you and stays on hold, then calls your phone when an agent picks up. Talking to a real person got my payments flowing again after being stuck for 3 weeks.

•I was super skeptical too but I was desperate. Been trying to call for almost a month. This got me through in one day and the agent fixed my issue immediately. My payment hit my account 48 hours later.

•another 'miracle solution'... 🙄 does this actually work without giving away all your personal info?

•It just connects calls - you only talk to the actual unemployment office. Saved me from getting evicted when my payments stopped suddenly. Made my landlord very happy when I finally got paid lol

Most federal holidays will affect deposits, especially bank processing. I've been on UI for 6 months and every holiday messes with the timing. It's normal - your money is safe, just delayed by 24hrs usually.

Yeah its definitely the holiday delay. Last 4th of July my payment showed up on wednesday instead of tuesday. They should really put this info somewhere obvious on the site so people dont freak out every holiday.

•This! NYSDOL communication is trash. Like how hard is it to put a banner on the website saying "due to Labor Day, payments will be delayed by one business day" 🤦♀️

I'm in the same boat! Usually get mine Tuesday but nothing today. My friend said its normal for holiday weeks, so I'm trying not to worry. Would be nice if they sent a text alert or something when theres delays.

•Text alerts would be amazing! But that would require NYSDOL to actually care about keeping us informed 😂

Holidays always create payment delays. Here's what you need to know about the NY unemployment system and payment schedules during holidays: First, understand that there are two separate processes: certification processing and payment processing. You certify on Sunday, NYSDOL processes on Monday, bank processes on Tuesday typically. When there's a federal holiday: - NYSDOL offices are closed - Banks don't process ACH transfers - Everything gets pushed back one business day For Labor Day specifically, Monday processing gets pushed to Tuesday, which pushes Tuesday deposits to Wednesday. If you're consistently having payment issues beyond holiday delays, I strongly recommend using claimyr.com to get through to an agent. They'll call unemployment for you and connect you when someone answers. Getting a real person on the line is the fastest way to resolve any payment problems. Also, check your payment history on the website - it should show as 'released' before it hits your account. Hope this helps!

•This is super helpful, thanks! I checked my payment history and it does show as 'released' so I guess it's just the bank processing delay. I'll stop panicking now 😅

•How did you even learn all this? The NYSDOL site explains basically nothing 🤣

I've been on unemployment since march and yep every holiday messes with the schedule. My guess is your payment will come tomorrow. I think its because the ACH transfer system banks use doesnt run on federal holidays.

My payment is also delayed. It's frustrating but normal. Anyone know if we atleast get backpay eventually for all these delays or do we just lose that day?

•You don't lose anything. It's just a timing delay in when it hits your account, not a reduction in benefits.

Am I the only one who got my payment today as usual? It hit my Chase account this morning, same as every other Tuesday. Maybe it depends on your bank? 🤷♂️

•Around 6am like usual. Maybe Chase processes things faster than other banks?

•Chase and BOA are usually pretty similar for UI deposits. Might be something else going on with your claim

My roommate deals with this every holiday. He said his payment always shows up the morning after the usual day when there's a holiday involved. So expect it tomorrow morning.

•Yep same with social security payments, tax refunds, pretty much anything government related. They all follow the federal reserve schedule.

PSA: This happens with EVERY federal holiday! Mark your calendars for Columbus Day (Oct 9), Veterans Day (Nov 11), etc. so you're not caught off guard next time!

Another day another problem with the ny unemployment system... but yeah holiday delays are normal. If it doesn't show up by Thursday THEN start worrying and get on the phone with them.
