NY unemployment finally fixed missing day payment after phone call
After waiting THREE WEEKS I finally managed to get through to NY unemployment today. Had this weird issue where they only paid me for 4 days instead of the 5 I certified for back in January. The online system kept showing 'partial payment - see payment history' but never explained why! The rep was actually super helpful (shocked) and said it was some glitch where the system didn't process my 5th day. They had to manually 'rectify' it over the phone and said I'll see the missing day's payment in 2-3 business days. Has anyone else had days randomly disappear from their weekly certification? So frustrating to have to spend 2 hours on hold for something that should've been automatic!

Yes! This happened to me twice last month. The NYSDOL system has been glitching since they did that update in December. I certified for my full week but only got paid for 3 days one time and 4 days another time. Both times I had to call to get it fixed. The first time I tried using the message system on the website but never got a response. Phone is definitely the way to go, though it's a nightmare getting through. The rep told me they've been getting tons of calls about this specific issue.

That makes me feel a little better that I'm not the only one! Did you get your missing payments pretty quickly after they fixed it?

I started calling right when they opened at 8:00 am and kept hitting redial. Still took me about 45 minutes of trying before I got in the queue. Then waited on hold for over an hour. Super annoying but at least they fixed it.

I had the same problem last week and couldn't get through on the phones for days. I ended up using Claimyr.com and got through in about 20 minutes. It costs a bit but saved me from constantly redialing for days. They have a video showing how it works at https://youtu.be/Rdqa1gKtxuE. Totally worth it for me since I was missing almost $200 in benefits from the system error.

This is a known issue with the current NYSDOL system. When you certify for a week where you worked partial days or had other special circumstances, the system sometimes fails to process the entire week correctly. Here's what to do: 1. Document everything - take screenshots of your certification confirmation 2. Call NYSDOL as soon as you notice a discrepancy (sooner is better) 3. Ask specifically for the "certification rectification" process 4. Make sure they confirm when the payment will be issued 5. Check your payment history daily until it appears If you're missing more than one day's payment, you may need to request a monetary determination review instead. The rectification process only works for minor discrepancies within a certification week.

Thank you! This is super helpful. I wish they'd put this info on their website somewhere. I didn't know there was a specific "certification rectification" process - the rep didn't call it that but that's definitely what they did. Will keep an eye on my payment history.

guys the system is DESIGNED to short change us!!! its not a "glitch" when it happens to so many ppl. they count on most people not noticing or not wanting to deal with the phone nightmare to fix it. ive had this happen 3 TIMES since 2025 started. DOCUMENT EVERYTHING and keep fighting!!!

While frustrating, there's no evidence this is intentional. The issue stems from the system update in December 2024 when they migrated to the new benefits platform. The certification processing module has documented technical issues they're working to resolve. Always good advice to document everything though!

So after they rectified it for you, did they say anything about preventing this from happening again? I'm asking because I just certified yesterday and now I'm worried my payment might get messed up too. Did you do anything unusual during your certification that might have triggered the glitch?

The rep didn't really explain how to prevent it happening again. I didn't do anything unusual in my certification - answered all the questions the same way I always do. She did mention something about it sometimes happening if you certify very late in the day on Sunday, which I did that week around 11pm. Maybe try to certify earlier if you can?

Just a heads up - if you're missing more than one day's worth of benefits, or if it happened more than 4 weeks ago, you need to specifically ask for a "monetary determination review" instead of the rectification. Different process, takes longer (about 10-14 days), but it's the only way to fix larger issues. Ask me how I know... 🙄

UPDATE: Just checked my payment history and the missing day's payment hit my account this morning! Only took 2 days. So relieved but still annoyed I had to call for something that should've been automatic.

For anyone dealing with this issue, I recommend taking screenshots of your certification confirmation page every time you certify. That way if there's ever a dispute about what days you claimed, you have proof. The system is supposed to show this in your payment history, but sometimes that information is incomplete or missing entirely.
