NY unemployment claim approved 6 weeks ago but no payments received yet - desperate for help

I lost my job on April 3, 2025 and immediately filed for NY unemployment online on April 6, 2025. It's now May 15, 2025 (over 5 weeks later!!) and I STILL haven't received a SINGLE PAYMENT. I've been certifying every week like clockwork, and I even got an official determination letter stating I qualify for $552 weekly benefits. My family is really struggling since we're down to just my spouse's income, and the bills are piling up fast. I've tried calling the unemployment office literally 30+ times but can never get through to an actual person. Has anyone else experienced this kind of delay? What am I doing wrong? Is there something else I should be doing to get my backdated payments released? This is getting really stressful.

Unfortunately, this is more common than it should be. There might be an identity verification issue or a pending employer response that's holding up your claim. Do you have access to your online account? Check if there are any action items or messages in your inbox that need attention. Sometimes there's a form they need that isn't obvious unless you check your online dashboard.

Thanks for responding! Yes, I can log into my account fine. I don't see any messages or tasks in my inbox at all, which makes it even more confusing. My dashboard just shows "pending payment" for all the weeks I've certified. I even uploaded my ID documents when I first applied just to be proactive. Do you think I should try submitting those again?

I checked the payment history page and there's nothing there at all, just blank. Did you do anything special to finally get your payments started?

This is a very common issue right now. The NYSDOL system has been flagging many legitimate claims for additional review due to enhanced fraud prevention measures implemented in March 2025. Here's what I suggest: 1. Make sure you've completed your ID verification through ID.me if required 2. Check that your direct deposit information is correct in your profile 3. Look for any DocuSign requests in both your email and spam folders 4. Try calling right when they open at 8:00 AM or just before closing at 4:30 PM In my experience, most of these delayed initial payment issues get resolved within 6-8 weeks, but you shouldn't have to wait that long if you can speak with a representative directly.

Thank you for these suggestions! I did complete ID.me verification and double-checked my direct deposit info. I haven't seen any DocuSign emails though - I'll check my spam folder right now. The 6-8 week timeframe is really scary... we can barely make it another week without these payments.

After dealing with a similar issue (took 7 weeks to get my first payment!), I finally found a service called Claimyr that got me through to an agent in about 20 minutes instead of spending days redialing. They basically keep calling for you until they get through, then connect you. The agent I spoke with fixed my issue immediately - turned out there was a small discrepancy with my employer's response that was holding everything up. Check out their demo at https://youtu.be/Rdqa1gKtxuE if you're interested. Definitely worth it when you're waiting on thousands in backpay.

I've never heard of Claimyr before. I'm desperate enough to try anything at this point. Did they actually get you through to a real person? And the unemployment office fixed your payments after that single call?

Yes! Got me through to an actual NYSDOL rep who had the authority to release my payments. The backpay hit my account about 48 hours after the call. Just go to claimyr.com - they explain everything there. Saved me weeks of stress and waiting.

this whole system is DESIGNED to make people give up!!! i bet they have some algorithm that randomly selects claims to delay hoping people will just stop claiming. my cousin waited 9 weeks with NO explanation and suddenly got all his backpay dumped in his account with ZERO communication about what was wrong or why it was fixed. THE WHOLE SYSTEM IS BROKEN ON PURPOSE!!!!!

While the system certainly has problems, there's no evidence of deliberate delays. What's more likely is they're understaffed and dealing with outdated technology. Most claims with delays have legitimate verification issues that need resolution - it's just that their communication about these issues is terrible.

Have you tried reaching out to your state representative? That's what helped me get my claim unstuck last year. Their offices often have direct contacts at unemployment who can look into cases. Google your district's state assembly person and give their office a call.

I honestly didn't even think about contacting my state rep. That's a great idea, thank you! I'll look up their contact info right now.

I had this exact situation back in February. After weeks of trying to call with no success, I tried using Claimyr (the service someone mentioned above), and it actually worked. Got through to someone who told me my claim had a "pending review" status due to my former employer contesting the reason for separation. Once I talked to the agent, they removed the hold and I received all my backpay within 3 days. Definitely try to get through to a human - either through persistent calling, your state rep, or a service like that.

Thank you! That's really helpful to know. I'm thinking my former employer might be causing the delay too. They weren't happy when they had to lay me off. I'm going to try getting through to someone ASAP.

Just wanted to check back - were you able to make any progress with your claim? Sometimes if your work history includes multiple employers in your base period, that can also cause delays as they verify information with each one.

I finally got through using that Claimyr service someone recommended! The agent found that there was an employer response issue AND a random flag for additional review on my account. She cleared both and said I should see all my backpay within 3 business days. I'm so relieved! I'll update once the money actually hits my account.

That's great news! The backpay should include all weeks from your initial filing date through the most recent certification, as long as you certified for each week. Make sure to keep certifying while waiting for the payment to process.
