NY unemployment deposit delayed after address change - is this normal?

I just moved to a new apartment last week and updated my address on my NY unemployment account. Now my weekly benefits that normally show up on Tuesday are nowhere to be seen even though I certified on Sunday like usual. It's already Friday! Is this delay normal after an address change? Do they have to verify my new address or something before sending the payment? I really need this money for rent next week and I'm starting to panic a little...

10 DAYS?? I can't wait that long! Did they notify you about the verification or did it just randomly show up after 10 days?

Address changes can trigger a security review in the NY unemployment system. It's a fraud prevention measure. Typically it causes a 3-7 day delay, but can be longer if there are other flags on your account. The system needs to verify your identity at the new address to prevent benefits theft.

This is true, but sometimes they don't even tell you this is happening! NYSDOL has the WORST communication. They should at least warn people that changing addresses will delay their money.

Call them ASAP!! My brother had something similar happen after he moved and it turned out there was a problem with his new address format in their system. It took him THREE WEEKS to get his money because no one told him anything was wrong until he finally got through to an agent!

Three weeks?? That's terrifying. I've been trying to call them all day but just get the busy signal or automated messages saying call volume is too high. Is there any trick to getting through?

I work with unemployment claims and can confirm that address changes often trigger a brief security review. This is typically resolved within 5-7 business days. However, if you need your payment sooner, I recommend speaking with an agent directly. They can verify your identity and potentially release the payment immediately. Also, make sure your direct deposit information is still correct after the address change - sometimes one change resets other settings in the system.

Thank you for this info! I'll double-check my direct deposit settings right now. But I've been trying to call all day with no luck getting through. Any suggestions on the best time to call?

I was stuck in the same situation last month after my move. Couldn't get through on the phone for days. I finally used Claimyr (claimyr.com) and it worked surprisingly well - got through to an agent in about 20 minutes who fixed my issue on the spot. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/Rdqa1gKtxuE The agent confirmed that address changes trigger a verification hold, but they can override it once they confirm your identity. My payment was processed the next day after I spoke with someone.

Thank you! I'm going to try this right now. I'm desperate to get this resolved before rent is due. I'll update here if it works.

When I changed my address back in february my payments stopped completely and I had to do a whole identity verification process with those stupid [ID.me](http://ID.me) people. Took almost 3 weeks!! Make sure you check your message inbox on the unemployment website, they might have sent you something about verifying your identity that you missed.

Just checked my inbox and there's nothing there. This is so stressful! I'm going to try calling again.

The REAL problem is that NYSDOL is STILL using their outdated system that flags everything as potential fraud! They need to fix their broken system instead of making US suffer. I had to wait 12 days when I changed my address last year and no one could tell me why. THEN they had the nerve to tell me I should have "planned better" when I called to complain about the delay. RIDICULOUS!

UPDATE: I finally got through to someone using that Claimyr service! The agent confirmed there was a hold on my account due to the address change. She verified my identity and released the payment. She said it should be in my account within 1-2 business days. Such a relief! She also mentioned this happens pretty frequently with address changes and that I should always call immediately if my payment is even one day late in the future. Thanks everyone for your help!

Glad to hear it's resolved! For future reference (for anyone reading this thread), any change to your account information - address, phone, bank details - can trigger a security hold. It's always best to make these changes early in your certification week to give the system time to process before your payment date.

Great news! One additional tip: document the name of the agent you spoke with and the call details in case there are any issues with the payment posting. Sometimes it helps to have this information if you need to follow up.
