How long to get approved for New York Unemployment after submitting application?
Just submitted my unemployment application and wondering how long it typically takes to get approved? I uploaded all my W2s and employment info. The website says 2-3 weeks but wanted to know what others experienced. Anyone apply recently and get approved?

took me about 4 weeks to get approved. Make sure you keep doing your weekly certifications even while waiting for approval, youll get back pay for those weeks once approved

I used claimyr.com to get through to an agent. It costs $20 but totally worth it because they dial and wait on hold, then call you when someone picks up. Check out this video about how it works: https://youtu.be/Rdqa1gKtxuE

•yeah its legit! saved me hours of hold time. they just connect you when an agent answers

Took 6 weeks for me and had to verify identity thru [id.me](http://id.me). The whole system is a joke tbh 🤮

Here's everything you need to know about the approval process: First, make sure you've completed these steps: - Weekly certifications (don't skip these!) - Identity verification through id.me - All work history accurately reported - W2s and supporting docs uploaded Typical timeline is 3-6 weeks. If you haven't heard anything by week 4, you should try reaching them. Best way I found was using claimyr.com - they handle the calling and waiting on hold. If you get denied, appeal immediately! You have 30 days to appeal. Good luck! 💯

Been waiting 5 weeks now and still pending... this is so frustrating! I've been doing my weekly certifications religiously but nothing's happening. Might have to try that claimyr thing everyone's mentioning. Has anyone had luck calling the regular DOL number or is it just a waste of time?

•honestly the regular DOL number is basically useless - you'll be on hold for hours and most of the time it just hangs up on you. claimyr is definitely worth the $20 if you're stuck in pending that long. also make sure you didn't miss any documents they might have requested - sometimes they send notifications that are easy to miss

I'm in the same boat right now - submitted my application last week and the waiting is killing me! Thanks for asking this question because all these responses are super helpful. Seems like 3-6 weeks is the norm but the system is really inconsistent. I'm definitely going to keep up with my weekly certifications and bookmark that claimyr.com thing in case I need it. Fingers crossed we both get approved soon! 🤞

Just got approved after 3.5 weeks! For anyone still waiting - definitely keep doing your weekly certifications like everyone said. I almost missed one because I thought it didn't matter while pending but apparently it does. Also had to do the id.me verification which was annoying but went through pretty quickly. The backpay came through about a week after approval. Hang in there everyone, it's worth the wait even though the system is super slow! 💪

•congrats on getting approved! that's such a relief after waiting that long. good to know about the backpay coming through a week later - i was wondering about that timing. definitely keeping up with my weekly certs now that i know how important they are. thanks for sharing your experience, gives me hope! 🙌

I'm currently on week 3 of waiting and this thread is giving me so much hope! I was starting to panic thinking something went wrong with my application but sounds like 3-6 weeks is totally normal. Quick question - when you all say "weekly certifications" do you mean the thing where you report if you looked for work that week? I've been doing those but wasn't sure if that's what everyone was referring to. Also really appreciate all the claimyr.com recommendations - definitely saving that link just in case I need to call after week 4. You guys are lifesavers! 🙏

•yes exactly! the weekly certifications are where you report if you looked for work and answer those questions about your availability. super important to keep doing those even while your initial application is still pending - that's how you'll get backpay for those weeks once approved. sounds like you're doing everything right! week 3 is still totally normal so don't panic yet. definitely save that claimyr info for week 4-5 if needed but hopefully you'll hear back soon 🤞

Just wanted to add my experience for anyone else waiting - I got approved in exactly 4 weeks but had a really weird issue where my weekly certifications weren't showing up in the system for the first 2 weeks. Turns out there was a glitch on their end and I had to call to get it sorted out. If you notice your weekly certs aren't being recorded properly, definitely don't wait - call right away or use that claimyr service people mentioned. Also pro tip: screenshot your weekly certifications as proof just in case! The system can be glitchy but once everything was sorted I got full backpay. Stay patient but also stay on top of any technical issues! 📱

•wow that's really good advice about screenshotting the weekly certs! i never would have thought of that but makes total sense given how glitchy the system seems to be. definitely going to start doing that from now on. thanks for sharing that tip about the certifications not showing up - i'll keep an eye on mine to make sure they're being recorded properly. super helpful to know that you still got full backpay even with the technical issues! gives me confidence that it all works out in the end even if there are bumps along the way 👍

Just wanted to jump in as someone who's been through this process twice (unfortunately). First time took 5 weeks, second time only 2 weeks - totally depends on their workload and if you need additional verification. Here's what I learned: 1. Keep doing weekly certs religiously - cannot stress this enough 2. Check your messages in the portal daily for any document requests 3. The id.me verification is almost guaranteed so get ready for that 4. If you hit 4+ weeks with no response, definitely use claimyr or find another way to get through Also wanted to mention - if you were laid off vs quit vs fired, that can affect processing time. Layoffs are usually fastest to approve. Don't stress too much if you're still in those first 3-4 weeks, that's totally normal! The system is slow but it does work eventually 💪

•this is incredibly helpful, especially the part about layoffs vs quit vs fired affecting processing time! i was laid off so hopefully that means mine will go through faster. really appreciate you sharing your experience from going through it twice - that gives me so much more confidence about what to expect. definitely going to start checking my portal messages daily now, i've only been checking weekly. thanks for the detailed breakdown! 🙏

Just wanted to share my recent experience since I literally just went through this! Applied 3 weeks ago and got approved yesterday - so right in that 3-4 week timeframe everyone's mentioning. The key things that I think helped: - Did my weekly certifications EVERY week without fail (even when it felt pointless) - Completed the id.me verification within 24 hours of getting the email - Uploaded super clear photos of all my documents (W2s, ID, etc.) - Checked the portal every few days for any messages or requests The waiting is absolutely brutal and you'll definitely question if you did something wrong, but based on this thread it seems like most people do get approved eventually! I was ready to try that claimyr service if I hit week 4 but thankfully didn't need to. Backpay should hit my account in the next few days according to the portal. For anyone still waiting - this community has been so helpful for managing expectations. Hang in there! 🙌

•congratulations on getting approved! 🎉 this is exactly what i needed to hear right now - i'm on week 2 of waiting and was starting to get really anxious. your timeline and tips are super reassuring. i've been doing my weekly certs but wasn't sure about checking the portal that often, definitely going to start doing that every few days now. really glad you shared your experience, it's so helpful to hear from someone who just went through it successfully! fingers crossed my approval comes through soon too 🤞

Currently on week 2 of waiting and this whole thread has been SO helpful! I was starting to panic thinking I messed something up on my application, but seeing everyone's timelines makes me feel way better. Definitely keeping up with my weekly certifications - seems like that's the most important thing based on everyone's experiences. Quick question for those who've been approved - did you get any kind of notification when your status changed from pending to approved? Or did you just have to keep checking the portal? I've been checking probably too obsessively lol but want to make sure I don't miss anything important. Also bookmarking that claimyr.com thing just in case I need it after week 4. Thanks everyone for sharing your experiences, this community is amazing! 🙏
