Filed ny unemployment claim on Sunday but no payment - is this normal?

I submitted my weekly certification last Sunday expecting to get my payment today (Thursday) as usual, but nothing has hit my account yet. Checked my payment history and there's no record of this week's payment. I've been claiming for about 3 months now without any issues until now. My benefit amount is supposed to be $487 per week. I answered all the questions the same way I always do, and got the confirmation number at the end. Anyone else experiencing delays this week? Should I be worried or just wait a few more days?

This happened to me last month. Try checking your email to see if they sent you anything about needing additional info. Sometimes they randomly flag accounts for identity verification. Also make sure you didn't accidentally click something different during your certification questions.

Thanks for the response! Just checked and don't see any emails from them. I'm pretty sure I answered everything the same as always. Gonna give it till Monday and then start panicking 😫

Sometimes they do random audits too. They did that to my sister and didn't tell her anything - payment just didn't show up. She had to call to find out what was going on.

Great, that's what I was afraid of. Wonder how long I'll be stuck on hold if I have to call them 🙄

After trying to get through to NY unemployment for TWO WEEKS with no luck, I finally tried this service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) and they actually got me connected to a real person! Talking to an agent got my payments released within 24 hours. It was literally the only way I could talk to a live agent. Check out this video if you're interested: https://youtu.be/Rdqa1gKtxuE

sounds like one of those sketchy services that just takes your money and doesnt do anything... did it actually work?

0 coins

Yeah I was skeptical too but I was desperate after calling like 50 times myself. They just connect you directly to an agent so you don't have to deal with the hold times. Got my issue fixed in like 15 minutes once I was talking to someone.

wait how does this even work? do they just call for you or something?

0 coins

Basically they have some system that calls repeatedly and waits on hold, then calls your phone when they get a real person. So you don't have to listen to that horrible hold music for hours 💯

another day, another company promising to fix the unfixable unemployment system lol

I get the skepticism but I was in the same boat as OP - payment suddenly stopped coming through. Talking to an agent was the only thing that fixed it. claimyr.com saved me weeks of frustration.

System might be glitchy right now. A bunch of people in my fb group are saying their payments are delayed this week too. Maybe they're doing some kind of update?

Double check your bank account details in your profile. Sometimes the system randomly resets your direct deposit info (happened to me). Also check if there were any bank holidays this week that might have delayed processing.

Just checked and my bank info is still correct in the system. No holidays that I know of either. Starting to get worried 😬

It might be nothing serious. The system gets overwhelmed sometimes. Give it till Monday, then try to get through on the phone if nothing shows up.

Iv had this happen 3 times now. Each time it was becuz they randomly flagged my account for a different reason. The last time they wanted proof I was looking for work even tho I submitted my job search record every week. The ONLY way to fix it was talking to a rep on the phone.

How long did it take you to get through to someone? I've heard the wait times are insane

It took me 2 days of constant calling. Call right when they open at 8am, thats ur best chance. Or try that claimyr thing someone else mentioned, i've heard good things but havent tried it myself.

Sorry you're dealing with this. The NY unemployment system is completely broken. I've had multiple instances where payments just randomly stopped and then started again with no explanation. Their communication is terrible.

This is probably a dumb question but did you check your spam folder? Sometimes their emails go there. Also make sure you log into the actual unemployment website and not just checking your bank account - sometimes the payment will show as 'pending' in the system for a few days before it hits your account.

Not a dumb question! I checked spam but nothing there. And yeah, I looked on the actual UI website under payment history and there's nothing for this week at all, not even pending. That's why I'm concerned.

Here's a comprehensive breakdown of what might be happening and what you can do: First, don't panic - this happens frequently. The NY unemployment system is notoriously glitchy. Several possibilities: 1) System delay - sometimes payments get held up for 1-2 business days with no explanation 2) Your account might have been randomly selected for review 3) A question in your certification might have triggered a flag 4) They could be verifying your identity or employment history 5) Bank processing delays What to do: - Wait until Monday before taking action - Check your payment history AND your messages in your online account - If nothing by Monday, you MUST call them Calling is usually a nightmare with wait times of 2+ hours. The most effective method I've found is using Claimyr.com - they'll wait on hold and connect you when an agent is available. Totally worth it considering how much benefit money might be at stake. Once you get through to a rep, be sure to ask them to document exactly what caused the delay so you can prevent it in the future. Good luck!

This is incredibly helpful, thank you so much! I'll definitely wait till Monday before I freak out completely. If I do need to call, I'll check out that service you mentioned.

THIS 👆 is the correct answer. I work in HR and help people with UI issues all the time. Random flags happen constantly in the system.

Check if your benefit year ended. Even if you still have money left in your claim, they stop payments when you hit the 1-year mark and you have to reapply.

I'm only 3 months in so that's definitely not it, but thanks for the suggestion!

I've been on unemployment 3 different times over the years and this kind of thing happens ALL THE TIME with ny unemployment. It's so frustrating. Last time my payment was delayed they said it was because my identity needed to be verified... even though I'd already been getting payments for months 🤦‍♀️

did u check ur answrs to make sure u didnt accidentaly say u refused work or traveled out of state? those will immeditely stop ur benefits.

Pretty sure I answered everything the same as always, but I guess it's possible I hit something wrong? I wish there was a way to see what answers I submitted.

When did you file? If it was late Sunday night it might count as Monday. Also the system has been super slow lately with all the layoffs happening.

0 coins

I filed around noon on Sunday, so definitely shouldn't count as Monday. And yeah, I've heard the system is overwhelmed right now.

0 coins

Sometimes they stop payments if they think you made a mistake on your certification. One time I accidentally put that I worked 1 hour when I meant to put 0 and they froze my entire claim. Had to call to fix it.

0 coins

Yo the same thing happened to me last week! I was freaking out but then the payment randomly showed up on Monday even though it usually comes Thursday. The system is mad unpredictable these days. 🤷‍♂️

0 coins

That's actually reassuring to hear. Maybe it'll just show up late. Fingers crossed!

Could be a bank issue too, not just unemployment. Sometimes my bank holds the deposit for 24-48 hours before it shows in my account, even though it says it's been processed on the unemployment side.
