Child tax credit payments after ny unemployment benefits ended?
My unemployment benefits just ran out last week after being on them since April. I was also receiving around $300 each month for the past couple months for my kid through some kind of child credit program (can't remember the exact name). Does anyone know if these child credit payments will continue even though my unemployment is done? Really counting on that money for daycare costs while I'm job hunting.

The Child Tax Credit payments are completely separate from unemployment. They're coming from the IRS, not NY unemployment. As long as you qualified based on your income and have eligible children, you should keep getting them through December 2021.

•Thx for clarifying! So relieved to hear they'll keep coming for a few more months at least.

•Just remember the monthly payments are just an advance on your tax credit. You'll get less of a refund when you file your taxes next year than you normally would.

•Wait what??? I thought this was extra money not an advance. Now im worried 😟

•It's not exactly "less" - they're just giving you half the credit now instead of all at tax time. So if you normally got $2000 per kid at tax time, now you get $1000 throughout the year and $1000 at tax time.

After 6 weeks of trying to reach ny unemployment about my extension, I finally found a service that got me through to a real person! Used claimyr.com and they kept calling until they got an agent, then connected me right away. Talking to an agent got my $ unlocked so fast - wish I'd known about this months ago! Check this video about how it works: https://youtu.be/Rdqa1gKtxuE

•yeah right, another 'miracle solution'... what's the catch? 🙄

•No catch - it just saves you from having to call 100 times yourself. I was desperate after not being able to get answers for weeks. They just keep autodialing until they get through, then call you.

•I literally just told you I used it last week lol. But yeah I get being skeptical, the system makes us all paranoid. It worked for me tho 🤷♀️

•I used it too when my claim was pending for 3 weeks. Got through to someone in about 2 hours and they fixed it on the spot.

The Child Tax Credit is sent by the IRS and has NOTHING to do with unemployment. It was expanded for 2021 and they started sending monthly payments in July. It's scheduled to run through December unless Congress extends it.

I think your talking about the advanced child tax credit that Biden approved. It's $250 or $300 per child depending on their age. It's scheduled to go through December but there trying to extend it.

•Yes! That's what it is. I couldn't remember the exact name. So it should keep coming even tho unemployment ended?

•Yep! Completely different programs. You'll get payments thru December for sure, and possibly longer if congress votes to extend it.

Those are two totally different things. The child tax credit is from IRS and has nothing to do with whether you're receiving unemployment benefits or not. You'll keep getting it until December (unless they extend it, which is being debated).

FYI - that money is actually an ADVANCE on your child tax credit for next year's taxes. So when you file your 2021 taxes, you'll get less of a refund than usual because you've already received part of it monthly.

•THIS!!! 👆 So many people don't understand this and are gonna be shocked when tax time comes

•Not exactly right. The credit was EXPANDED for 2021. So instead of $2000 per child it's now $3000-$3600 depending on age. So even after getting the monthly payments, most people will still get at least as much as they did last year when they file.

•Good point. I should have been clearer. It's an advance on the EXPANDED credit, so the math works out differently for everyone.

Heads up, if you need to contact unemployment about anything while your transitioning off benefits, good luck getting through on the phone. I spent 3 weeks trying before I found claimyr.com - they kept calling and got me connected to an agent within a few hours. Best decision I made after wasting days trying myself!

•hmm I've been burned by so many of these 'services' before... what makes this different?

•The difference is they don't take any of your personal info - they just do the calling for you and connect you when they get through. My claim was stuck in pending limbo for almost a month until I got to talk to someone.

The ADVANCED CHILD TAX CREDIT is what you're referring to. It's completely separate from unemployment and will continue through December 2021 as long as you have eligible children and meet the income requirements. This was part of the American Rescue Plan passed in March. Important things to know: - Payments are $300/month for children under 6 - Payments are $250/month for children 6-17 - This is an advance of half your annual credit - The other half will come when you file your 2021 taxes - It phases out for higher incomes (starts reducing at $75k for single filers) - You can opt out if you prefer to get it all at tax time - The IRS has a portal where you can check your status If you're having trouble with unemployment matters that need resolving, I found claimyr.com to be extremely helpful when I couldn't get through on the phones. They kept calling until they reached an agent, then connected me directly. Saved me hours of frustration!

•Do you know if there's a way to update your banking info for the child tax credit? Mine is going to an old account

•Yes! Go to the Child Tax Credit Update Portal on the IRS website. You can update your banking info there. Just need to create an ID.me account if you don't already have one.

•So I was about to throw my phone after 3 hours on hold when my friend told me about Claimyr. I was super skeptical too but it literally got me through to a real person in like 2 hours. They keep dialing for you and call you when they get through.

The child tax credit is federal, unemployment is state. Two completely different programs run by completely different agencies. Ur good 👍

I've been on and off unemployment and the child tax credit payments have continued regardless. Nothing to worry about!

•Same here! Got a job for 2 months, got laid off again, went back on unemployment, and the child credit never stopped coming.

Anyone know what happens if your income goes up while receiving the child tax credit? I just started a new job that pays way more than I was making before.

•If your annual income for 2021 ends up being above the threshold, you might have to pay some back when you file taxes. You can go to the IRS portal and opt out of future payments if you're worried about it.
