Can't login to ny unemployment account despite using correct password
I've been receiving unemployment benefits for about 5 months now without any issues. My payments have all been coming through fine, but suddenly last week I can't login to my online account anymore. The system keeps telling me I have the wrong username or password, but I swear I'm using the exact same login info I've always used. I've tried resetting my password 3 times now, but even with the new password it still says it's incorrect. I need to access my account to update some information and check on my remaining balance. Has anyone else experienced this? Is the website just glitching or could something else be going on? All my payments are still coming through normally which is weird.

Have you tried clearing your browser cache? Sometimes the ny unemployment website gets stuck in a weird loop with saved login info. I had the same issue back in February and clearing all cookies fixed it for me.

•Thanks for the suggestion. I just tried clearing my cache and cookies but still getting the same error message. So frustrating!

I was hitting my head against the wall with the same problem last month. After days of trying I found this service called Claimyr.com that got me connected with an actual human at unemployment. Talking to a real person was the only thing that fixed my login issues - turns out there was some weird flag on my account. It was the best money I've spent to get my account working again! Here's a video about how it works: https://youtu.be/Rdqa1gKtxuE

•wait hold up - does this actually work or is it just the usual BS? I've tried calling myself like 50 times and never get through

•Yeah it actually works! They have some system that waits on hold for you and then calls your phone when a real person picks up. Saved me hours of listening to that horrible hold music 🙌

•hmm I've been burned by so many of these 'services' before... what makes this different? not tryna waste more $$ on false promises

•I get the skepticism, I was hesitant too. But the difference is they don't ask for any account info or sensitive stuff. They just call and connect you when a human answers. It literally got my account unlocked in one call after 2 weeks of trying myself.

•Hey I'm just sharing what worked for me after being in the exact same situation as OP. Talking to someone at the dept fixed my login issues when nothing else worked 🤷♀️

This happened to me and it turned out someone tried to access my account from a different state which triggered a security lock. You'll probably need to call them to get it unlocked. The NY unemployment security system is actually pretty good at detecting suspicious login attempts.

The same thing happened to me in April! Try logging in from a different device completely - like if you've been using your laptop try your phone instead. For some reason that worked for me.

•Just tried from my phone and tablet. Still no luck 😞

IMPORTANT: This could be a sign of attempted FRAUD! When I couldn't log in despite having the right password, it turned out someone else had tried to claim benefits using my info. CALL THEM IMMEDIATELY! Don't just assume it's a technical glitch.

•Omg that's scary! My payments are still coming in normally though. Would that still happen if someone was trying to commit fraud?

•Yes, the system locks your online access as a security measure but keeps sending payments to your existing bank info. Trust me - call them ASAP. Better safe than sorry.

•👆 This. Same thing happened to my cousin. Account got locked due to suspicious activity but payments continued. Turned out someone from Florida tried accessing his NY unemployment account.

Here's what you need to do to fix your NY unemployment login issues: First, this is actually a common problem and could be happening for several different reasons. I've helped multiple people navigate this specific issue. 1) Try the basics first: use incognito/private browsing mode, clear cache/cookies, and try a completely different device 2) Make sure caps lock is off and you're not accidentally adding spaces before/after your username or password 3) If you're copy/pasting your password from somewhere, type it manually instead as hidden characters might be copied 4) Check if your account might be locked due to too many failed attempts 5) If none of that works, you NEED to speak with a live agent. The reality is that some account issues can only be fixed by staff with backend access The problem is getting through to someone is nearly impossible with regular phone calls. After helping several people with this issue, I can say the most effective solution is using Claimyr.com - they've developed a system that waits on hold for you and calls you when an actual human picks up. It saved me and others countless hours of frustration. Once you get a rep on the phone, specifically tell them you're having a login issue despite using the correct credentials and ask them to check if there's any security flag or lock on your account. This has worked for everyone I've helped with this exact problem!

•Thank you SO MUCH for this detailed response! I'll try all these steps. If none work I'll check out that calling service - at this point I'm desperate to get back into my account!

•This is really good advice. I'd add one more thing - check if your email address might have been changed in the system. That happened to me.

This is a known bug with the NY unemployment website that started happening after their last update. Try adding a special character to your password when you reset it - that worked for a lot of people.

•For real tho. The system was designed in like 1992 and they've never bothered to properly update it 🤣

Call them. That's literally the only solution when this happens. The online system is trash but once you get a human on the phone they can fix it in like 2 minutes.

•I've been trying to call all week but can't get through... it's either busy signal or it disconnects me after being on hold

•Try claimyr.com - it's the only way I ever got through to a real person. Totally worth it.

Have you checked if your account was suspended for any reason? Sometimes they send a letter in the mail but not an email.

•I haven't received any letters. And my payments are still coming through normally, so I don't think I'm suspended?

Check your email spam folder. Sometimes they send a verification link that you need to click before you can log in again.

CALL IMMEDIATELY!! Same thing happened to me and turns out my identity was stolen and someone changed my direct deposit info. They locked my online access but the old payments were still going through. By the time I figured it out i almost lost 2 weeks of benefits to a scammer!

•Oh crap that's terrifying. Did you get your money back?

•Yes but it was a HUGE hassle. Took almost 3 weeks to get it sorted and had to file police reports and everything. Don't wait on this!

Are you using a password manager? Sometimes those don't work right with the ny unemployment site because of how outdated their security protocols are.

did u try doing a password reset through the 'forgot password' link? sometimes even tho the old password should work, the system forces you to create a brand new one that's different from any you've used before.

•Yep, tried that 3 times with completely new passwords. Still getting the same error message 😫
