Been waiting 6 weeks after ID verification for ny unemployment to pay me anything

Started my unemployment claim on August 12th, verified through ID.me right away. I've been certifying every week since then but still haven't received a single payment. When I finally managed to call, the rep just said my claim is "under review" and they "don't have any further information" for me. That's it? Been almost 7 weeks now without any income. Anyone else stuck in this verification limbo? I've got bills piling up and can't get any straight answers about when this will be resolved.

Same boat. Verified through ID.me in September, been certifying religiously every Sunday for 5 weeks and still nothing in my account. Called twice and got the same robotic response about being "under review." They won't even give me a timeframe. How are we supposed to pay bills??

Exactly! Do they expect us to just not eat or have electricity while they take their sweet time? The least they could do is give us some kind of timeline.

I was stuck in this hell for 8 weeks last year. No communication, nothing. Just "under review" over and over. Its like talking to a brick wall.

Update: FINALLY got my backpay today! Hang in there everyone, it does eventually come through.

After struggling with the same issue for weeks, I finally found a solution! Used this service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) and they got me connected to an actual human at unemployment who could help. Talking to a real person got my payments unlocked within days - best thing I've done after weeks of frustration. Here's a video explaining how it works: https://youtu.be/Rdqa1gKtxuE

Does this actually work? I'm desperate at this point but skeptical about everything unemployment-related 🤔

It worked for me! They basically call NYSDOL for you and stay on hold, then call your phone when they get an agent. Saved me from listening to that awful hold music for hours.

yeah right, another 'miracle solution'... what's the catch? 🙄

0 coins

No catch - they just solve the biggest problem (getting through to someone). Once I actually talked to an agent, they cleared my issue in 10 minutes. I was ready to give up before finding them.

wait hold up - does this actually work or is it just the usual BS? I've tried everything at this point.

Totally understand the skepticism. I felt the same way. But yeah, it really worked for me. The unemployment system is broken, but once you actually get through to a real person, things start moving. That's what claimyr.com did for me.

Its insane that they make you verify through ID.me and STILL put you under review for weeks. Like what was the point of the verification then?? Just another way to delay paying people what they're owed.

Try calling right when they open at 8am. Thats how I finally got through to someone useful who could actually see what was happening with my claim. The regular reps just read from a script and tell you to wait.

I tried that three times. Still got the generic "under review" response. Did they tell you anything more specific when you called?

Yeah I got lucky and got someone who actually looked deeper. She told me they were waiting on employer verification which was delaying everything. Once I knew that, I contacted my former employer directly.

I've tried calling at 8am, 8:01am, 7:59am, from different phones... still can't get anyone helpful. NY unemployment phone system is the 10th circle of hell Dante forgot to write about.

Check your spam folder and message inbox on the unemployment website! They might have sent you a questionnaire or additional identity verification request. If you miss that, they just keep your claim in limbo without telling you.

Good idea. Just checked both and nothing. Their system is so frustrating!

This happened to me too. Call your local state assembly person and tell them your situation. Mine contacted unemployment on my behalf and within 2 days I started getting paid. They can cut through the bureaucracy faster than we can.

THIS 👆 The assembly rep trick worked for me too. Google "[your county] NY state assembly" and call them!

Wow, never thought of this. Will definitely try it, thanks for the tip!

This is why the system is broken. They make it as hard as possible to actually get the benefits youre entitled to. ID.me is supposedly to prevent fraud but they still act like everyone is guilty until proven innocent and make you wait weeks with no income. 😡

Here are some steps that might help you resolve this faster: 1. Check your online account messages daily - sometimes they send requests for additional info without calling you 2. Try calling the special claims center (not the main number) at different times of day 3. Make sure your work search records are thoroughly documented and submitted 4. Contact your state representative or senator's office - they have special contacts at unemployment 5. Send a secure message through your online portal specifically asking what is causing the delay 6. If all else fails, try a service like claimyr.com that can get you through to a live agent who might actually have access to help you The verification limbo is real, but usually something specific is flagged on your account that's causing the hold. The key is finding someone who can actually see what that is. Don't give up!

Thank you for this detailed response! I'll definitely try these steps, especially contacting my state rep.

The secure message thing worked for me! I sent one explicitly asking what specifically was holding up my claim, and got a response with the actual reason.

Do you have any previous claims or did you work in multiple states? That can cause the extended review period. My claim got stuck for 2 months because I had worked in both NY and NJ during my base period.

i was in the same situation last month and i was about ready to lose my mind. what finally worked for me was having a friend who works at a nonprofit that helps with unemployment issues. she gave me her contact there who walked me through what was happening. apparently my former employer was disputing my claim (even tho i was laid off!) and that was causing the hang up. might be worth checking if thats ur issue too?

Ravi Gupta

•

How can I find out if my employer is disputing it? The reps on the phone won't tell me anything specific.

thats exactly the problem! the phone reps cant see that or wont tell u. i had to get my friend to help. u could try legal aid services in your area, they sometimes have unemployment specialists who can help for free

I finally found success after weeks in ID.me hell by going to my local DOL career center in person. They have special staff there who can actually check your claim status in detail. The phone reps access different systems than the in-person staff. Worth the trip if you have one nearby.

Omg I didn't know you could do this! Is this at the regular job centers or a special unemployment office?

0 coins

It's at the NY Career Centers - the same places that help with job searches and resumes. They're not officially for unemployment issues, but they often have staff who can access the system. Just be super nice when you go in!

Not to make u feel worse but my cousin waited 11 weeks after ID verification before getting paid. The system is completely broken. He eventually got EVERYTHING backdated though. Keep certifying every week no matter what.

0 coins

Ravi Gupta

•

11 weeks?! That's insane. At least he eventually got all the backdated payments. I'm definitely keeping up with weekly certification.

yeah it was ridiculous... he almost got evicted waiting. but once it finally processed he got like $6400 at once. the system is designed to make people give up i swear.

This is actually comforting in a way. At least we know they DO eventually pay the backdated amounts. Small consolation when you're about to get evicted though.

When I was stuck in this situation, I started calling my local representatives AND the governor's office every single day. Was annoying but somebodys assistant finally took pity on me and escalated my claim. Got paid 3 days later. The squeaky wheel gets the grease with these people.

Double check that ur bank account info is correct in the system. My friend had a similar issue and it turned out they were trying to send payments to her old closed account. Super stupid that they wouldn't tell her that was the problem!

Just checked and my banking info is all correct. Such a frustrating system!

Sometimes identity verification issues happen because of name mismatches between different documents. Make sure your name on your ID exactly matches what you put on your unemployment application, down to middle initials and suffixes.
