NY unemployment payments delayed 3 weeks after ID.me verification - when will I get my money?

I'm at my wits end here! I verified through ID.me 3 weeks ago for my NY unemployment and STILL haven't gotten ANY payments. My rent is coming due and I'm panicking. Last time I finally got through to a rep (after trying for days), she just said keep claiming weekly and I'd get all my missed money "soon." What does "soon" even mean?? Has anyone else dealt with this ID.me verification delay? How long did it take for your payments to start coming through after verification? This is so frustrating, I've been claiming every week like clockwork but nothing is showing up in my account.

I went through this exact thing back in January. ID.me verification took about 3.5 weeks before my payments started coming through. The good news is that you WILL get all your backpay for the weeks you've been claiming. The bad news is that NYSDOL doesn't seem to have a consistent timeline for processing these verifications. Keep certifying every week without fail. If you miss even one week, it could further delay everything.

3.5 weeks?! I'm already at 3 weeks and barely hanging on. Did you do anything to speed up the process or just wait? I'm certifying religiously every Sunday morning.

The ID.me verification backlog has been a significant issue throughout 2025. The delay is typically 3-4 weeks, though I've seen some cases resolved faster (around 2 weeks) and others taking up to 6 weeks. Here's what you need to know: 1. Continue certifying weekly without fail 2. Your backpay will include all weeks from when you first filed and were eligible 3. Double-check your ID.me account to ensure the verification shows as "completed" not "pending" 4. If you're approaching week 4 with no resolution, you should try to speak with a tier 2 representative Unfortunately, getting through to NYSDOL by phone has become increasingly difficult this year due to staff shortages and high call volumes.

Thank you for this detailed info! My ID.me does show "completed" so at least that part seems right. How do I specifically ask for a tier 2 rep? Last time I just got whoever answered.

they told me soon too and it was 5 WEEKS!!! the whole system is a joke. I almost got evicted waiting for them to "verify" me even though ive been paying taxes in NY for 11 years!!!! KEEP CALLING THEM!!!

5 weeks?!?! That's insane! Did calling multiple times help at all or were they just giving you the runaround each time?

calling didnt help AT ALL until the final time when someone actually did something. they just kept saying "be patient" like my landlord would accept that as rent lol

I work with unemployment claims cases, and I can tell you that the ID.me verification delays are unfortunately common right now. The NYSDOL is dealing with an increased verification workload due to new security protocols implemented in early 2025. Some important things to know: 1. Your case is likely in a queue waiting for manual review after the automated ID.me verification was completed 2. The standard processing time is currently 3-4 weeks, but it can occasionally take up to 6 weeks 3. You will receive ALL back payments once verified 4. Calling repeatedly won't necessarily speed up the verification process itself What WILL help is getting through to the right department. The general representatives often can't access the ID verification system directly. You need to speak with someone in the Identity Verification Review department.

This is super helpful, thank you! Do you know how I can specifically reach the Identity Verification Review department? Every time I call I just get the general helpline.

I had this same problem last month and was getting desperate after trying to call for days. What finally worked for me was using Claimyr (claimyr.com) - they got me connected to an actual NYSDOL agent in about 20 minutes when I'd been trying for days on my own. The agent was able to see that my ID.me verification was complete but stuck in their system queue. She manually pushed it through and my payments (including all backpay) hit my account two days later. They have a video demo showing how it works: https://youtu.be/Rdqa1gKtxuE Might be worth trying if you're desperate like I was. The peace of mind alone was worth it because at least I knew what was happening with my claim.

I'd never heard of this before, but at this point I'll try anything. Did they need a lot of personal info to use the service?

Just your phone number basically. They call you when they've reached an agent. The actual NYSDOL person asks for your personal info just like they would if you called directly. It's just a way to skip the busy signals and hold times.

this happened to my cousin she got all her money after like a month. the id.me thing is to stop fraud but it just hurts regular people trying to get their benefits. so stupid.

Update: I finally got through to someone at NYSDOL today using that Claimyr service, and the agent confirmed my ID.me verification was complete but sitting in their backlog. She was able to push it through manually! Said I should see all my payments within 48-72 hours. Fingers crossed but feeling relieved to at least know what was happening!

Great news! That's exactly how the process should work. The verification was complete on the ID.me side but waiting for NYSDOL processing. When you reach the right agent, they can indeed expedite these cases. Please update us when the payments come through to help others know what to expect.

Update: All my payments just hit my account this morning! Full backpay for all 3 weeks plus this week too. Such a relief!

This typically only happens if there was an actual issue with the ID.me verification or if they missed certifying for several weeks. For most people, the verification goes through successfully after the wait period. Starting a new claim should be a last resort as it can create additional complications.

For anyone else reading this thread with similar issues, here's a quick checklist that might help with ID.me verification delays: 1. Make sure your ID.me account shows "verification complete" not just submitted 2. Continue certifying every single week without exception 3. Check that your contact information is current in both ID.me and your NYSDOL account 4. If it's been more than 3 weeks, try reaching a claims specialist who can manually check your verification status 5. Look for any messages in your online account or email that might indicate additional information needed Most importantly, document everything - dates you certified, dates you called, names of representatives you spoke with, etc. This information can be crucial if you need to escalate your case.

This is super helpful! I wish I'd had this checklist 3 weeks ago when I first did the ID.me thing. For anyone else reading, definitely try to talk to a claims specialist, not just the first person who answers the phone.
