Was a bit nervous or untrusting at first, but my calls went thru. What time zone are you in? I found out that they actually list their hours in Eastern time, but their system sometimes interacts weird with other time zones. Try calling based on Eastern time zone opening hours.
I'm in NY so same time zone. But good tip for others!
Have you tried using the callback service at claimyr.com? I was in the exact same situation - couldn't get through for weeks, needed to verify my identity to get my money. Contact your state assembly person or senator! Seriously, this worked for me when I had issues. Their offices have direct contacts at unemployment and can often get things fixed when you can't get through the normal channels.
yo this happened to me 2! ny unemployment system is straight garbage. biggest thing that helped me was using claimyr to get through to an agent (regular phone lines are impossible). once i talked to someone they explained i'd hit my maximum benefit amount even tho my end date was later. stupid system design fr 👎

So many people dealing with this right now! My theory is that all our data that got leaked in various breaches over the years is finally coming back to haunt us. Unemployment fraud is apparently super profitable for scammers right now.
Y'all I'm an accountant and I see this ALL THE TIME with my clients. Here's what you need to know: 1) This is a MASSIVE problem right now with NY unemployment specifically 2) Document everything and act fast 3) You'll need to file IRS form 14039 (Identity Theft Affidavit) 4) Get an IP PIN from the IRS for future tax filings 5) When/if you get a 1099-G form for benefits you didn't receive, you must dispute it 6) Consider freezing your credit with all bureaus The NY unemployment system is completely overwhelmed with these cases. My bf was in the same situation and finally got it resolved by going IN PERSON to a Department of Labor office! Not many people realize you can do this. He went to the one in Brooklyn and spoke to someone face to face.

•Most locations are open 8:30-4:30 but GET THERE EARLY. Like 7:30am early. They only take a certain number of people each day. No appointment system that I know of.
