The whole system is ridiculous anyway. They make it so complicated to figure out if you even qualify and then the application process is a joke. I've been fighting with them for weeks over some stupid technicality about my last day of work.
Just remember you'll need to do the job search requirements now too. I think it's 3 job search activities per week and you have to keep a log. The NYS Department of Labor website has all the details about what counts as a valid job search activity.
ugh the whole system is so confusing!! why can't they just coordinate between programs instead of making us report the same info to everyone separately
Just wanted to add that when you report to SNAP, make sure you have your unemployment award letter from NYS Department of Labor handy. They'll want to see the official documentation showing your weekly benefit amount. Also keep track of any weeks you don't claim unemployment since that will affect your SNAP calculation too.
wait so if ur boss says they cant afford workers because of wages that disqualifies you? that seems backwards

If you're having trouble getting through to NYS Department of Labor to ask questions about part-time work, I had success using Claimyr. It's a service that helps you get connected to an actual agent instead of waiting on hold forever. They have a video demo at https://youtu.be/qyftW-mnTNI that shows how it works. I used it when I had questions about reporting freelance income and actually got through to someone at claimyr.com who helped clarify the rules.

•Never heard of this... sounds too good to be true? How much does it cost?

•It's legitimate - they basically handle the calling and waiting for you. I was skeptical too but after 2 weeks of trying to reach NYS Department of Labor myself, I figured it was worth trying.

The NYS Department of Labor is SO BAD at explaining this stuff clearly! I've been on unemployment twice and each time the rules seemed different. Just document everything you earn and when you earned it. Keep copies of all your weekly claim submissions too in case they ask for proof later.
