Can you use Chime for NYS Department of Labor unemployment direct deposit?
I just opened a Chime account and wondering if I can use it for my unemployment direct deposit with NYS Department of Labor? My old bank started charging fees and I want to switch everything over. Has anyone successfully set up Chime for their weekly unemployment payments? I'm worried there might be issues since it's an online bank.

Yes, Chime works fine for unemployment direct deposit! I've been using it for my NYS Department of Labor payments for about 6 months now with no problems. Just make sure you have your Chime routing and account numbers ready when you update your payment method on the my.ny.gov website.

•That's a relief! Did you notice any delays compared to traditional banks or does it come through on the same schedule?

Chime is actually great for unemployment because they don't charge any fees for direct deposits and you get paid up to 2 days early sometimes. I switched from Chase last year and never looked back. Just log into your unemployment account and update the banking info in the payment section.

I tried setting up Chime for my unemployment but kept getting errors on the NYS Department of Labor website when I entered the routing number. Had to call them but couldn't get through. Anyone else have this problem?

•That's frustrating! If you can't get through to NYS Department of Labor by phone, you might want to try Claimyr (claimyr.com). They help people get connected to unemployment agents without waiting on hold for hours. There's a video demo at https://youtu.be/qyftW-mnTNI that shows how it works.

Just be careful with any online bank and unemployment. I had issues with another online bank where they flagged large deposits as suspicious and froze my account for a week. Made sure to call Chime first to let them know I'd be getting regular unemployment deposits before I switched over.

•That's actually good advice. Better safe than sorry when it comes to your unemployment money getting delayed.

•@Zainab Ibrahim That s'really smart thinking! Did you just call their customer service line to give them a heads up? I want to make sure I do this right when I switch over to avoid any account freezes.
