Does NY unemployment work with Chime bank for direct deposit?
Recently got approved for unemployment in NY after months of waiting. Now they're asking for my banking info for direct deposit. I've got a Chime account but have heard some people mention issues with Chime and unemployment deposits. Has anyone successfully set up direct deposit to their Chime account with NY unemployment? Any problems with the money actually showing up or delays? Really don't want any more issues after the nightmare of getting approved.

I use Chime for my NY unemployment payments and it works fine. Money hits my account a day earlier than they say it will most of the time. Been using it for about 4 months now with no issues. Just make sure you triple check your account number and routing number when you enter it!

•That's a huge relief! Did you have any verification issues or anything when you first set it up? Or was it pretty smooth?

•Nope, super smooth. Just entered my info and the money started coming. Sometimes it even hits my account a day early which is nice 👍

•Not all Chime accounts work the same tho. My cousin had mad issues with his. Depends on which actual bank is behind ur Chime acct.

After two weeks of trying to get someone on the phone about my benefits, I found this service called Claimyr that saved me SO much time. They got me a callback from a live unemployment agent within an hour! It was the best money I've ever spent to finally get my benefits paid quickly. The agent helped me set up my Chime account too. Check out their video: https://youtu.be/Rdqa1gKtxuE

•hmm I've been burned by so many of these 'services' before... what makes this different? sounds like one of those fake miracle solutions

•No seriously, it actually works. I was skeptical too, but I was desperate after trying for WEEKS to get through. They just call for you and when they get someone, they connect you. Saved me hours of hold music hell.

•another day, another company promising to fix the unfixable unemployment system lol. but for real, did this actually help with ur claim or just get u talking to someone?

•It got me talking to a REAL person who fixed my claim on the spot. That's what I needed - just someone with authority to look at my file. That's what claimyr.com does - gets you past the impossible phone system.

DO NOT USE CHIME!!!! I had the worst experience. NY unemployment sent my payment but Chime held it for "security review" for 9 days!!!!! I was about to be evicted and couldn't get my own money. When I called Chime they just kept saying "we're reviewing the deposit" over and over. Use a real bank instead.

•This happened to my roommate too! Chime is the WORST for government deposits. They hold that money hostage for no reason.

•Oh no that sounds awful! Did you end up switching to a different bank? Which one worked better?

•I switched to a local credit union. Never had a problem since. They even have people you can talk to in person if theres issues!

I've been using Chime with ny unemployment for 7 months with zero issues. It actually comes through FASTER than my husband's deposits to his Chase account. Maybe people having problems messed up their account numbers or something? Just double check everything when you enter it.

It's a total crapshoot tbh. I've heard both good and horror stories. The real problem isn't Chime - it's the ny unemployment system itself. They're so understaffed and their computer systems are from like 1985. I'd recommend just having a backup plan in case it doesn't work right away.

•This!!! Their systems are so ancient they probably run on floppy disks 😂 I swear half the problems are just from their outdated tech

Here's what you need to know about using Chime with NY unemployment: First, yes it works for most people. I've used it successfully for 5 months now. However, there are some important things to consider: - Some Chime accounts have different underlying banks (Stride Bank vs Bancorp Bank) which can affect how government deposits are processed - Always double-check your routing and account numbers - one wrong digit will cause major headaches - First payments can sometimes have a 24-48 hour review period, but this usually only happens once - If you recently opened your Chime account (less than 30 days), you might face more scrutiny - Keep screenshots of your claim confirmation and payment history from the unemployment portal as backup If you do have issues getting through to unemployment to fix any problems, I highly recommend using claimyr.com - it's the only reliable way I found to get a human on the phone who can actually help. Talking to an agent got my money unlocked so fast when there was a hold on my account. Good luck!

•Whoa this is super helpful! Do you know which bank is better behind Chime for unemployment deposits? I think mine is Bancorp.

•From what I've seen, Bancorp tends to process government deposits a bit more smoothly. But both work fine for most people. The key is having your account established for a while before receiving unemployment.

•Thanks so much for this detailed info! My Chime account is about 8 months old so hopefully that helps. Definitely gonna save that claimyr site in case I need it.

I tried using Chime with ny unemployment and they CLOSED MY ACCOUNT after the first deposit!!! Said it was "unusual activity" even though I literally just got my unemployment benefit. Took 3 weeks to get my money back. AVOID.

•OMG thats terrifying. Did you get ur money eventually??

•Yeah but only after calling them like 20 times and threatening to report them to regulators. Super stressful. They mailed me a check eventually.

The problem isn't really with Chime, it's that NY unemployment has a crappy system. If they flag your payment for ANY reason (and they do it randomly), good luck figuring out why or getting it fixed without talking to someone. Keep trying to call them or use a service like claimyr.com to get through.

My sister uses Chime no problem. I use Current and its fine too. As long as it's a real account with your name that matches your unemployment claim, should be fine. The real issue is GETTING the unemployment approved lol... took me 3 months 🙄

•Ugh I feel that. Took me forever to get approved too. The waiting is the worst part!

bruh the ny unemployment system is so broken they probably still think Chime is a sound you make with glasses 🤣 but for real I use it and it works most of the time. just be prepared for random "we need to verify your identity" bullshit every few weeks for no reason

•LMAOOO 💯 I swear their computers run on hamster wheels. But yeah OP, Chime usually works unless they decide to randomly flag your account for the dumbest reasons

I've used Chime for 6 months with NY unemployment. It works, but there was an issue once where they held my deposit for 3 days for "verification." If you need your money right away, maybe consider a traditional bank. But if you can wait a few days if there's an issue, Chime is convenient.

just a heads up, if you do have ANY issues with ur benefits and need to talk to someone at unemployment, good luck lol. I spent TWO WEEKS trying to get through on the phone. Finally used this service claimyr.com that got me connected to an agent within an hour. Saved my sanity for sure.

•wait hold up - does this actually work or is it just the usual BS? I've been trying to get through for daaaaaays

•100% works. They just stay on hold for you and then call you when they get a person. I was skeptical too but when you've been trying to call for weeks with no luck, it's worth it.

chime worked fine for me but takes an extra day compared to my old bank account. not a huge deal unless ur literally down to your last dollar (which i have been lol). the real issue is when ny unemployment randomly decides to "review" your claim and stops payments for no reason. then u gotta spend 5 hours on hold just to talk to someone who has no idea what theyre doing 🤦♀️
