DETR Nevada: Unemployment claim held up due to severance package - How to resolve?
Has anyone else had issues with their unemployment claim being held up because of deductible income? I entered all the info about my severance package but the system is still asking for it and I haven't even received the severance pay yet. It's been weeks and I still haven't gotten any payments. This is so frustrating! Anyone know how to get this resolved?

Thanks for the suggestions. I've uploaded everything I can think of, but I'll double-check. And yeah, I've been certifying religiously. It's just so frustrating to see $0 every time.

•Hang in there, OP. The system is broken, but eventually it'll work out. Just keep documenting everything!

Have you tried uploading your severance agreement to your EDD account? Sometimes that helps speed things up. Also, make sure you're certifying for benefits every two weeks even if you're not getting paid yet.

Unpopular opinion: maybe we should all just learn to code instead of relying on unemployment 🤷♂️

I found a way to actually get someone on the phone! I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/joPqgg0bRFw

•I know it sounds sketchy, but I swear it worked for me. Saved me hours of frustration. Worth every penny imho.

•While Claimyr does facilitate this process, $20 can be steep for some, especially while waiting for payments.

Friendly reminder to everyone: DOCUMENT EVERYTHING. Every call, every letter, every email. It might seem paranoid, but trust me, it'll save your butt if things go sideways.

Ugh, I feel your pain. The EDD system is a total nightmare. I had a similar issue with my severance package. It took me calling them like 50 times before I finally got through to someone who could help.

•I totally agree. It's crazy how difficult it is to get a hold of someone. Maybe they need more staff or better systems?

Hey OP, quick question - when you entered your severance info, did you put the full amount or just what you've received so far? That might be causing the hold-up.

•I put the full amount, even tho I haven't received any of it yet. Should I change it?

•This could definitely be the issue. Sometimes initial errors in reporting can create complications.

Here's what you need to do: 1. Call EDD first thing in the morning, right when they open. That's your best shot at getting through. 2. Have all your documents ready - severance agreement, last pay stub, anything related to your claim. 3. Be polite but firm with the rep. Explain that you've already entered the info and haven't received the severance yet. 4. Ask them to expedite your claim due to financial hardship. 5. Get the rep's name and ID number, and a callback number if possible. 6. If they can't help, ask to speak to a tier 2 specialist. 7. Follow up with an email summarizing your call and attaching all relevant documents. Don't give up! It's a pain, but persistence pays off. Good luck!

It's really unfortunate that so many people are facing issues with their unemployment claims due to deductible income like severance packages. While Claimyr does offer a service to help get through to a live EDD representative, which costs $20, it's not feasible for everyone. It's worth acknowledging that it has worked for some people, saving them hours of trying to reach an agent on their own. However, it's important to consider other free methods as well, like calling EDD right when they open, having your documents organized and ready, and being assertive yet polite when communicating with the EDD representatives. Additionally, contacting your local state representative's office can be another powerful tactic, as they can have direct lines to the EDD. It's crucial to stay persistent and keep documenting everything—calls, submissions, and correspondence with the EDD—as it can provide leverage if issues persist. While learning to code or any new skill is valuable, it doesn't solve immediate financial distress. A functional social safety net would indeed alleviate much of this stress, but until then, navigating the system as strategically and persistently as possible is the best course of action.

Has anyone else noticed that the EDD website always seems to crash right when you're about to submit something important? It's like they're trolling us at this point.

I'm dealing with something similar right now! My severance package is causing delays too. One thing that helped me was calling the EDD number repeatedly using the redial feature on my phone - I literally called 200+ times in one morning until I got through. When I finally talked to someone, they told me that if you haven't actually received the severance money yet, you should report it as "pending" rather than the full amount. Also, make sure you're uploading a copy of your severance agreement if you have one - that seemed to help clarify things for them. The whole system is frustrating but don't give up! Keep certifying even while it's pending.

•This is really helpful advice! I had no idea about reporting it as "pending" vs the full amount - that could definitely be what's causing my hold-up. I'm going to try the redial strategy too, even though 200+ calls sounds exhausting. Thanks for sharing what worked for you!

I'm going through the exact same thing right now! My severance is holding up my claim and it's been almost 6 weeks with no payments. What's really frustrating is that I haven't even received the severance yet - it's not supposed to come until next month - but somehow it's still blocking everything. I've uploaded my severance agreement three times and keep getting the same automated message asking for more documentation. Has anyone found a specific department or person at DETR who actually understands severance issues? The regular customer service reps seem clueless about how to handle it.

•I'm dealing with the exact same nightmare! It's been 8 weeks for me and counting. One thing I discovered is that there's supposedly a "Deductible Income Unit" at DETR that specifically handles severance package issues - regular customer service can't actually resolve these cases, they just keep asking for the same documents over and over. Try asking to be transferred to that specific unit when you call. Also, I found that calling right at 8:01 AM gives you the best chance of getting through. The automated system seems to have fewer glitches early in the morning. Hang in there - this whole process is absolutely broken but we'll get through it eventually!

I'm in a very similar situation and it's beyond frustrating! What I've learned after weeks of dealing with this is that DETR's system seems to get confused when you report severance that you haven't actually received yet. I made the mistake of entering the full severance amount upfront, which created a mess that took forever to untangle. Here's what finally worked for me: I had to call and specifically ask for the "Deductible Income Unit" (thanks to whoever mentioned that above - game changer!). Regular customer service reps literally cannot fix severance issues, they can only take notes. The Deductible Income Unit actually understands how severance timing works with unemployment benefits. When you do get through to them, have these ready: your severance agreement, the exact dates when payments will be received, and documentation showing you haven't received any money yet. They can adjust your claim to reflect the actual timing rather than treating it like you've already been paid. Also - and this is important - keep certifying every week even while it's pending! I almost stopped because I wasn't getting paid, but that would have messed up my whole claim timeline. The payments should be retroactive once they fix the severance issue. The system is absolutely broken but don't give up. Document everything and keep pushing for that specialized unit!

•This is incredibly helpful information! I had no idea there was a specialized Deductible Income Unit - that explains why I keep getting nowhere with regular customer service. I'm definitely going to ask for that specific unit when I call tomorrow morning. The timing issue makes so much sense too - I think entering the full amount before actually receiving it is exactly what's causing my problems. Thanks for sharing what worked for you, it gives me hope that this can actually get resolved!

I've been lurking here for weeks dealing with my own severance nightmare, and reading everyone's experiences has been both frustrating and oddly comforting - at least I'm not alone in this mess! After 7 weeks of getting nowhere, I finally got some movement on my case yesterday. Here's what made the difference: I followed the advice about calling for the "Deductible Income Unit" specifically (seriously, why don't they tell you this exists??) and had a breakthrough. The rep there explained that Nevada DETR's system has a glitch where it treats future severance payments as if you've already received them, which automatically disqualifies you even though you're legally entitled to benefits until you actually get paid. She was able to manually adjust my case to show the correct payment timeline. Still waiting for the back payments to process, but at least there's finally movement! For anyone still stuck - be super specific about the dates when you'll receive each severance payment, not just the total amount. The timing is everything with these cases.

•This is exactly what I needed to hear! Thank you so much for sharing your breakthrough - it gives me hope that there's actually light at the end of this tunnel. The timing detail about future vs. received payments makes perfect sense, and I think that's been my issue too. I'm going to call first thing Monday morning and specifically ask for the Deductible Income Unit with all my payment dates clearly documented. It's ridiculous that this specialized unit isn't common knowledge, but I'm grateful you figured it out and shared it with the rest of us! Fingers crossed I can get similar results.

I've been following this thread closely because I'm dealing with the exact same severance issue - going on 5 weeks now with zero payments. Reading about the "Deductible Income Unit" was a revelation! I had no idea this specialized department even existed. I've been calling the general number and getting transferred to random reps who clearly don't understand how severance timing works with unemployment benefits. They keep asking me to upload the same documents over and over again. One thing I wanted to add that might help others: when I was trying to report my severance initially, the online system only had options for "received" or "will receive" but nothing for the specific timing. I think this is part of what creates the confusion in their system. Has anyone found a way to be more specific about payment dates through the online portal, or does this really require getting to that specialized unit by phone? Also, for those who successfully reached the Deductible Income Unit - about how long did it take for them to actually process the adjustments to your claim? I'm trying to manage my expectations here while my bills keep piling up. This whole experience has been eye-opening about how broken the system really is.

•You're absolutely right about the online system being way too vague with those reporting options! I ran into the same issue - there's no way to specify that you'll receive payments over multiple dates or that the timing is different from when you reported it. From what I've seen in this thread, it really does seem like you have to call and get to that specialized unit to fix the timing issues properly. The online portal just isn't equipped to handle these nuanced severance situations. I'm in week 3 of waiting myself and planning to try the early morning calling strategy everyone's mentioned. This thread has been more helpful than anything DETR has provided - thanks to everyone sharing their experiences! We really shouldn't have to figure this out on our own.
