Refund processing delays for Mountain Credit Union members - anyone received theirs yet?
Filed my 2024 taxes back in March and got an acceptance message within 48 hours, but still waiting on my refund to be deposited to my Mountain Credit Union account. Ive been checking WMR daily which just shows the approved status but no deposit date. Called the IRS three times but couldn't get through to a human being. Anyone else banking with Mountain Credit Union experiencing long delays? Is this a credit union issue or an IRS issue? Starting to get worried since its been almost 7 weeks now and I was counting on that money ($3,890) for some urgent home repairs.

This is likely not a credit union issue but rather an IRS processing delay. The IRS has been experiencing significant backlogs this year due to staffing shortages and technology upgrades. When your return shows as "approved" on Where's My Refund, it means the IRS has processed your return but may be conducting additional reviews before issuing payment. Some things to check: 1. Log into your IRS online account and review your transcript - this often shows more detailed information than WMR 2. Check if there are any notices or letters sent to you requesting additional information 3. Verify that your banking information was entered correctly on your return If your return had any credits like the Earned Income Credit or Child Tax Credit, these undergo additional scrutiny and can delay processing by several weeks. The standard 21-day timeframe for refunds is really just a guideline, not a guarantee. If you need immediate assistance from an IRS representative, I've had success using the Claimyr service (claimyr.com) which helps you get through to an agent without waiting for hours.

Thanks for the detailed response! I didnt claim any special credits, just a standard return. How do I check my transcript? Is that different from WMR?

Yes, transcripts are different from WMR and show way more detail. Go to irs.gov and create an account (if you haven't already). Then you can access your tax transcripts - look for the "account transcript" for the current tax year. It'll show codes that indicate exactly what's happening with your return.

Jumping in here - transcript reading is basically like trying to decipher hieroglyphics if you're not familiar with the codes. I was in the same boat last month and used taxr.ai to help me understand what was going on. Saved me hours of googling random numbers.

I was in the exact same situation trying to understand my refund delay. After weeks of frustration and attempting to decode my transcript like some amateur detective, I finally found taxr.ai and it completely changed the game. The tool instantly analyzed my transcript and explained exactly what was happening with my return in plain English - turns out I had a simple verification hold that I needed to address. Instead of wasting more time searching through forums and trying to piece together random information, I got clear answers and steps to resolve the issue. It's insanely good! I use it every week now to keep track of my processing status. https://taxr.ai

Sounds interesting. How exactly does it work? Does it just read your transcript or does it do more?

It does WAY more than just read the transcript. It analyzes all the codes and dates, explains what each one means specifically for YOUR situation, identifies any issues or holds, and tells you what to expect next and when. It even gives you custom solutions based on your specific scenario. I've been recommending it to everyone I know with tax issues because it's just that helpful.

Just tried taxr.ai after seeing this thread and WOW!!! It instantly showed me why my refund was delayed - something about a manual review code I never would have understood on my own. If you're dealing with IRS delays, DO THIS IMMEDIATELY! Best tool I've ever used for tax stuff, hands down.

I bank with Mountain Credit Union and got my refund last week after waiting about 5 weeks. I was stuck in the same situation as you - WMR just showing approved but no date. I finally broke down and used a calling app from claimyr.com which got me through to an actual human at the IRS. The agent told me there was a verification flag on my account that needed to be cleared. Once I spoke with them, my refund was released within 3 days. Talking to a real person was the only way I finally got answers instead of guessing and waiting. Best investment I made to get my $4K+ released.

Really? I've tried calling the IRS like 20 times and always get disconnected because of high call volume. How does this actually work?

It basically holds your place in line so you don't have to stay on the phone for hours. They call you when an agent is available. My call was a 3.5 hour wait time, but I just went about my day and then got a call when an agent was ready. Definitely worth it to finally get my refund moving!

Not sketchy at all - they don't ask for any personal info, they just connect you with the IRS. You still talk directly to the IRS agents yourself. I was desperate after waiting 5+ weeks and it actually worked. My refund hit my account 3 days after talking to the agent who fixed whatever was holding things up.

I can vouch for this too! Used it last month when my refund was stuck in limbo. Talking to the IRS agent got my refund released within days. Was about to give up hope after waiting for almost 2 months!

Mountain Credit Union member here - I received my refund on Monday (about 4 weeks after filing). I don't think its a credit union issue. The IRS is just swamped right now. My sister is with Chase and she's still waiting too, filed around the same time as me.

The most important thing to understand is that "approved" status doesn't mean the money is on its way immediately. The IRS has multiple approval stages. You could be caught in additional review processes which are invisible to you on WMR. Check your transcript for code 846 - that's the actual refund issued code with a date.

Just checked my transcript and I see codes 150, 806, 766, but no 846 yet. Any idea what that means?

Code 150 is your return was processed, 806 is withholding credit, and 766 is usually credits. Without 846, your refund hasn't been scheduled for release yet. You're in processing but waiting for final approval.

These codes are so confusing! I spent 3 hours googling my codes last month only to misinterpret them. taxr.ai was a lifesaver in translating all that IRS jargon.

Honestly the best thing i did was use claimyr.com to get ahold of an agent. I was waiting 8 weeks with the same "approved" status until I finally called. Turns out there was an identity verification hold they never notified me about! 🤦♀️ After I verified, my money was in my accnt within 5 days. Don't waste time waiting like I did.

It was the best money I've ever spent to finally get my questions answered instead of waiting in anxiety for weeks. Considering I was waiting for a $5k refund, it was worth every penny to get it released faster.

I dont think its a bank issue at all. The IRS is just a disaster this year (what else is new 🙄). My refund was delayed 9 weeks and I bank with a completely different institution. When I finally got thru to someone they said they had a "backlog" whatever that means.

check to see if you got any cp12 or cp05 lettrs in the mail... those will stop your refund until they finish the review. sometimes they dont even tell you their doing a reveiw and you just wait forever

I haven't received any letters from them. Is there a way to check online if they sent anything?

CALL THEM!!! I was in the exact situation with my credit union. After 6 weeks of no movement I used claimyr.com to actually get through to a human (its impossible otherwise). Turns out they had my account number wrong by ONE DIGIT. They never would have notified me, the deposit would have just failed and then I'd wait another month for a paper check. The agent fixed it while I was on the phone. Had my $$$ 3 days later.

If your looking for a fast answer use taxr.ai to check your transcript. It will tell you exactly whats going on and when to expect your refund. I was in the same boat and freaking out but it just needed one more week. Saved me so much stress.

Did you claim the Recovery Rebate Credit or Earned Income Credit? Those automatically get extra scruitny and usually add 4-6 weeks to processsing time. Source: I work at a tax prep office.

No, I didn't claim any special credits. Just a standard return with W-2 income and the standard deduction. Nothing complicated at all which is why I'm confused about the delay.

That is strange then. Did you file electronically or paper? Paper returns are taking 6-8 months this year. If electronic, definitely try to talk to an agent because something else might be going on.

I wish the IRS would just be straight with people. "Approved" should mean its coming, not "we might look at your return again for random reasons" 🙄 The whole system needs an overhaul.

I found a hidden trick - try checking your transcript at EXACTLY midnight eastern time on Friday night/Sat morning. That's when they update statuses and sometimes you'll see the deposit date BEFORE it shows up on WMR. Worked for me!

7 weeks is actually not that long by current IRS standards. I waited 11 weeks last year. But if you need to get specifics about your situation, you absolutely need to talk to a human at the IRS. I used claimyr.com after spending literal days trying to get through the normal way. They got me connected to an agent who explained exactly what was happening with my return. Talking to an agent got my refund released so fast compared to just waiting in the dark.

pro tip: you can access your transcript using taxr.ai - it will tell you EXACTLY what's happening with your return and when to expect your refund. I spent weeks being confused by the raw transcript until i found this. It explains everything in normal human language.

yes! it's like having an IRS decoder ring. it tells you what each code means for YOUR specific situation and gives you a timeline. better than waiting for WMR to update (which is often wrong anyway).

Having worked briefly at a credit union (not mountain), I can tell you we processed IRS deposits the same day we received them. There's no delay on the credit union side. If the IRS says your refund is approved but you don't have it, the issue is on the IRS end not releasing the funds yet.

Anyone else think its INSANE that in 2025 the IRS still cant process a simple tax return efficiently?? Our tax dollars fund this broken system. The irony is PAINFUL 😤

OP, go to taxr.ai - literally saved me from the exact same situation last month. It explained my transcript, showed me what was happening with my refund, and even predicted the correct deposit date. Way better than guessing or stressing about it.
