Cross River Bank Direct Deposit 03/14 - Anyone else waiting? Let's share updates!

I filed my taxes back on March 5th and got accepted right away. IRS website said refund was approved and would be direct deposited on March 14th to my Cross River Bank account. It's now March 20th and still nothing in my account. Called the bank and they said they haven't received anything from the IRS yet. Checked WMR tool and it still says the same thing - approved with March 14th deposit date. Anyone else using Cross River Bank experiencing delays? Has anyone successfully received their refund through them this year? Getting really frustrated since I was counting on that money for some bills due next week.

Carmen Flores

So this happened to me earlier this year. The key is to check your transcripts, not just the Where's My Refund tool. WMR isn't always accurate about deposit dates. Looking at your transcripts will show if there's actually been a refund issued or if there's a hold on your account. If you see code 846 with a date on your transcript, that's when the refund was actually sent. If there's a code 570 or 971, that means there's a hold or notice sent. In my case, Cross River showed the deposit 2 days after the official IRS date. I'd give it another day or two before panicking. If nothing shows up by Monday, call the IRS directly (though good luck getting through - their phone lines are a nightmare).

Thanks for the response. How do I check my transcripts? I've only been using the WMR tool.

You need to create an account on IRS.gov if you don't already have one. Go to the 'Get Transcript' section. You might need to verify your identity with credit info or get a code mailed to you depending on your situation.

Just checked my transcript and I see code 846 with the 3/14 date, but also seeing a 570 code dated 3/25. No idea what that means...

That 570 code is a hold on your account. The 3/25 date means they're reviewing something. You'll probably get a letter explaining why. Sometimes its just verification stuff, sometimes they adjusted your refund amount.

Yep, I'm with Cross River too and had a similar situation. The 570 code means they're holding your refund for review. In my case it was because my W2 info didn't exactly match what my employer reported. Took about 3 weeks to resolve.

I was in exactly the same boat trying to figure out what was going on with my refund. I tried calling the IRS like 20 times but could never get through. I finally tried taxr.ai and it actually helped me understand exactly what was happening with my return. It read my transcript and explained all the codes and dates in plain English. Turns out I had a review flag but it wasn't serious. Got my money a week later! Definitely worth checking out if you're confused about what's happening - https://taxr.ai

Sounds interesting. How exactly does it work? Does it just read your transcript or does it do more?

It analyzes your transcript and breaks everything down. Explains each code, what's happening with your return, and gives you an actual timeline. Way better than trying to decipher everything yourself or waiting on hold for hours.

Just tried it and WOW - this is a game changer! It explained everything so clearly. My return had an income verification issue I didn't even know about. EVERYONE needs to use this!!!

is this some kind of ad? 🤔 sounds too good to be true

Not an ad, just sharing what worked for me. I was literally pulling my hair out trying to figure out why my refund was delayed for weeks. The IRS website is useless and their phone support is impossible.

Just checked it out and its actually really helpful. I've been staring at my transcript for days trying to figure out wtf was going on. This explained everything in seconds.

I finally got through to someone at the IRS after trying for days. Was sick of getting that automated message saying call volumes were too high. Ended up using a calling app from claimyr.com and got a live person on the phone within an hour. They confirmed there was a review on my account but it was almost complete. My deposit showed up 2 days later. It was the only way I could get answers instead of just guessing what was happening.

How does that even work? The IRS never answers their phones...

It basically keeps calling for you until it gets through, then calls you back when it has an agent on the line. Saves you from having to redial a million times and wait on hold forever. Talking to the agent directly got my issue resolved so much faster than waiting around.

Does it actually work? I've been trying to reach the IRS for weeks.

100% worked for me. Got through in under an hour when I'd been trying for days on my own. That conversation with the agent was worth every penny to finally understand what was going on with my refund instead of just waiting blindly.

Just tried it and had an IRS agent on the phone in 47 minutes. They explained that my Cross River deposit was delayed because they needed to verify some income. Would've never known this without talking to them directly!

I bank with Cross River and got my refund 3 days after the date WMR showed. I think they're just slower than the big banks at processing these deposits. Give it a few more days before getting too worried.

The IRS and their "estimated deposit dates" are complete BS. I've NEVER gotten a refund on the date they claim. Always at least 3-5 days later, sometimes weeks. Cross River isn't great with processing government deposits either - my stimulus payment took forever to show up last year. The combination of IRS + smaller bank = even more waiting 🙄

This! The IRS dates are basically just suggestions lol. And smaller banks always take longer to process.

Cross River took a whole week to post my tax refund back in 2023. Their customer service is useless too - they just tell you to wait.

Have you checked that your direct deposit info is correct? I had an issue where I transposed two digits in my account number and my refund got rejected and sent back to the IRS. Had to wait for a paper check which took an additional 6 weeks! 😫

Yep, double checked and all my info is correct on the return. Same account I've used for years.

The WMR tool hasnt updated for me in 3 weeks! Still says processing even tho I got my refund last week 💀 the system is completely broken

I switched from Cross River to a credit union this year because I had so many issues with them delaying my tax refund last year. Best decision ever! Got my refund exactly on the date the IRS specified. Maybe consider switching banks for next year if this is becoming a pattern.

Same experience here. Cross River was consistently 3-5 days behind on any government deposits. Switched to Chase and now everything posts right on time.

Check your spam folder! Cross River sent me an email asking to verify my identity before they would release my tax refund, and it went straight to spam. I didn't see it for a week and that's what was holding everything up.

Good tip! Just checked and don't see anything from them, but I'll keep an eye out.

The IRS is SEVERELY backlogged this year. My brother works there and says they're prioritizing certain types of returns and letting others sit. If you claimed any credits like EIC or child tax credit, that automatically puts you in a slower processing queue. Has nothing to do with Cross River - the IRS probably hasn't even sent it yet despite what WMR says.

Pro tip from someone who's dealt with this mess for years: Any time the WMR tool shows a deposit date but the money doesn't show up within 5 business days, you need to call the IRS. Don't wait longer! There's usually some issue that needs to be resolved, and the longer you wait, the further back in line you go.

^^^THIS!!! I waited 2 months last year thinking it would just show up eventually. Turns out there was a simple verification issue that could have been resolved in minutes if I'd just called.

OMG I'm in the EXACT SAME SITUATION with Cross River!!! Filed 3/4, accepted same day, WMR shows 3/14 deposit date, it's now 3/20 and NOTHING in my account. Called Cross River and they said they don't have it yet. What is going on??!!

Will do! This is so frustrating. I'll call the IRS tomorrow and see if I can get any answers.

tbh the real problem with these smaller banks is that they hold onto the money for a few days to earn interest on it before passing it along to us peasants. all banks do it, but the bigger ones can afford to be faster about it to keep customers happy. Cross River is notorious for this.

I use Cross River and had no issues. Refund was in my account on the exact date WMR specified. Maybe check if there's something specific about your return that's causing a delay rather than blaming the bank?

My situation was the same but with Chime. The date passed, nothing showed up. I was freaking out for days. Then suddenly the money appeared a week later with no explanation. The whole system is messed up and none of the dates mean anything. I seriously don't understand why they even give dates if they're not going to stick to them.

I never trust the WMR tool anymore. Last year it told me my return was still processing AFTER I already received my refund. This year it gave me a deposit date, then changed to "still processing" after that date passed, then a week later the money just showed up. It's completely unreliable.
