Cross River Bank tax refund delays - filed 3/10, any updates from fellow Chime users?
I filed my taxes on March 10th and got accepted same day. My refund is supposed to be coming through Cross River Bank to my Chime account. I was expecting to get that 5 days early deposit feature but nothing yet. It's been over 2 weeks now and I'm getting worried. Anyone else using Chime with Cross River Bank for their refund? Specifically looking for people who filed around early March. Has anyone actually received their deposits yet? Getting a bit concerned since I'm counting on this money.

I work with tax returns professionally. Cross River Bank is known to have delays in processing tax refunds, especially during peak filing season. The 5-day early deposit feature with Chime is only applicable once the IRS has released the funds, not from when you filed. Check your Where's My Refund tool on the IRS website to see the actual status of your return. If it says approved and a direct deposit date has been set, then you should expect it within that timeframe (minus potentially the 5 days early with Chime). If it still shows as "processing" then the delay is with the IRS, not Cross River or Chime. The IRS is currently experiencing higher than normal processing times for 2023 returns.

•Thanks for this! I checked Where's My Refund and it says still processing. I guess I was confused and thought the delay was with Cross River/Chime. Will keep waiting I guess 😫

•how long does it usually take for the irs to approve returns now? filed mine march 15th and still nothing

•Right now it's taking anywhere from 2-6 weeks for standard returns. If you claimed certain credits like EITC or CTC, it could take longer. The backlog is pretty significant this year.

•you can also try using taxr.ai to analyze your transcript - it'll tell you exactly where your refund is in the process and when you might expect it. helped me figure out why mine was delayed last month

I've been tracking refund problems for months now. Instead of just guessing what's going on with your transcript, I've been using this tool called taxr.ai that actually interprets everything and tells you what's going on. I was confused why my refund was stuck for weeks, but the site analyzed my transcript and showed me exactly where it was in the system. It even predicted my deposit date correctly! The best part is it explains all those weird codes and dates in plain English. Honestly it's insanely good! I use it every week just to keep tabs on my situation. https://taxr.ai

•Sounds interesting. How exactly does it work? Does it just read your transcript or does it do more?

•It does way more than just read the transcript. It actually interprets all the codes, tells you what each date means, predicts your refund timing, explains any holds or issues, and gives you actionable info on what to do next. Saved me from calling the IRS like 5 times already. You just upload your transcript and it does all the analysis instantly.

•HOLY CRAP I JUST TRIED THIS AND IT'S AMAZING!!! Been stuck in processing for 3 weeks with the IRS giving me zero info but taxr.ai told me exactly why (verification hold) and that it should clear in 9 days. This is a game changer people!!! 🙌🙌🙌

•does it need all your ssn and personal stuff? sounds sketchy

•The transcript already has that info anyway since you're uploading what you get from the IRS. But the site explains how they handle everything securely. Been using it for months with no issues.

Filed March 7th, also with Chime/Cross River. Got my deposit yesterday morning! I was in the same situation as you - waiting and waiting. I finally got through to someone at the IRS about my refund status after using the Claimyr calling app (claimyr.com) and the agent told me my return had a small verification hold that was cleared. Talking to a live agent was exactly what I needed - 2 days after that call my money showed up! It was the absolute best money I've ever spent to finally get my questions answered instead of waiting in limbo.

•wait what's this calling app thing? does it actually work? i've been trying to get thru to the irs for likee 3 weeks

•Yeah it 100% works. It basically navigates all the phone menus for you and gets you in the callback queue. I had an agent call me back in about 45 mins when I'd been trying for weeks on my own with no luck. They have different options depending on what department you need to reach.

•Lol I wish I worked for them! Just a very happy customer. I was about to give up on getting my refund any time soon before I tried it. Trust me, after you spend hours getting disconnected by the IRS phone system you'll try anything.

•just used it myself and yeah it works. had been struggling for days to get through. got a callback in 30 min and agent released my refund.

Filed March 8, Chime user here too. Still nothing. Getting super frustrated because I needed that money for my car payment last week. The IRS Where's My Refund tool just says "still processing" which isn't helpful AT ALL. Anyone know if there's a specific issue with Cross River this year?

I think there's a lot of confusion about how the 5 days early thing works with Chime. They can only deposit early if the IRS has released the funds and provided the settlement date. Chime doesn't magically know when your refund is coming if the IRS hasn't approved it yet. My experience last year was that once the WMR tool showed a DDD (direct deposit date), I got it 3 days before that date through Chime.

•That makes sense! I was assuming the delay was on Chime's end but sounds like I need to wait for the IRS to get their act together first.

•The IRS is a complete dumpster fire this year. My sister filed in February and still waiting!

Not Chime, but I use Current with Cross River and filed March 5th. Got my refund yesterday morning - was about 3 days earlier than the date WMR gave me. Did you check your transcript on the IRS site? Sometimes that has more info than the WMR tool.

•I don't know how to check my transcript? Is that different from Where's My Refund?

•Yeah it's different. Go to irs.gov and look for "Get Transcript Online" - you'll need to create an account if you don't have one. The transcript has way more detailed info about your return status with actual dates and codes.

i filed feb 28 with cross river/chime and got my refund on march 18th. no issues for me but my return was pretty simple. did you have any credits or deductions that might have triggered extra review?

The IRS is completely overwhelmed right now. I've been waiting since February 15th for my refund (not Chime, I use Wells Fargo). Don't count on that money until it actually hits your account. The system is broken.

Filed March 12th, also with Chime. I was stuck on "still processing" for about 2 weeks, then suddenly got my deposit yesterday with no warning. The WMR tool never even updated to show a date. So maybe there's hope yours will just appear!

Same situation but I filed Feb 27 - Chime/Cross River. Finally got my money on March 20th. What I've noticed is there seems to be batches of deposits going out, not consistent timing. My friends who filed the same weekend all got theirs within a day of each other despite being different banks.

Anyone in this thread tried calling the IRS? I was stuck for almost 3 weeks and finally used that Claimyr service (claimyr.com) to get through to them. Found out my return had been flagged for manual review due to a mismatch on one of my W2s. The agent cleared it while I was on the phone and my deposit hit 4 days later. Talking to an actual human at the IRS got my refund moving way faster than just waiting.

•How much did that cost? worth it?

•Honestly? It was the only way I could talk to a live agent after trying for days. Considering I was waiting on several thousand dollars, getting that released made it totally worth it.

•I was skeptical but just tried it and it actually worked. Got a callback in 40 minutes after spending DAYS trying to get through on my own. The agent found a hold on my account that wouldn't have resolved without me calling in. Money should be in my account next week!

If your return is still processing, you might be selected for a random review. This happened to me - filed March 1, didn't get my refund until March 30. The most frustrating part was there was NOTHING wrong with my return, they just randomly decided to look at it closer which added weeks to processing.

I'd highly recommend checking your tax transcript instead of the WMR tool. WMR is notoriously vague and unhelpful. I was getting so frustrated trying to figure out what was going on with my refund until I checked my transcript which showed a specific hold code. Once I knew what was happening I used taxr.ai to help me understand the exact timeline and what to do next. Got my refund about a week later. Would have been clueless without those transcript codes being explained!

•I second this! WMR is useless but the transcript has all the actual info.

•That happens to a lot of people unfortunately. You can also try calling and requesting they mail a transcript to you.

Chimer here! Filed March 9, got my deposit March 25. No issues. Have you checked your Chime account to make sure your direct deposit info is correct? Sometimes the routing numbers for Cross River can get mixed up.

•I double checked and everything looks correct. I've received other direct deposits without any issues so I don't think that's the problem.

The IRS has been randomly selecting returns for additional verification this year. I had to verify my identity even though I've been filing the same way for years. Check your mail - they might have sent you a letter requesting more info. They don't always update this in the online systems right away.

I've been looking at the IRS data and they're WAY behind on processing returns compared to previous years. Their systems are ancient and they're understaffed. If you need your refund urgently, try using Claimyr to get someone on the phone. I was stuck for weeks until I called and got a human to look at my account - had my money 3 days later. Getting an actual person to review your case makes all the difference in the world.

•I might try that! At this point I just want to know what's happening.

Filed March 3rd, got my refund March 20th through Cross River/Chime. But my transcript showed "refund approved" on March 15th with a DDD of March 22nd. So I got it 2 days early, not 5. I think Chime oversells that 5-day early thing tbh.

Filed March 11th with Chime/Cross River and just got my deposit this morning! I was in the exact same boat as you - checking WMR obsessively and getting frustrated with the "still processing" message. What finally helped was getting my transcript from the IRS website (took a few tries to verify my identity but eventually worked). The transcript showed way more detail than WMR and had actual codes that explained what was happening. Mine had been sitting in a verification queue for nearly two weeks. The key thing I learned is that the 5-day early deposit only kicks in once the IRS actually releases the funds and sets a direct deposit date - Chime can't work magic if the IRS hasn't approved your return yet. Hang in there, it sounds like a lot of people who filed around the same time as us are finally getting their deposits this week!
