TurboTax 5-day early refund with Chime - Anyone get theirs yet? (Filed 2/14)
I filed through TurboTax on February 14th and opted for the 5-day early refund option with my Chime account. My return was accepted the same day, but I'm still waiting for the deposit. Has anyone else who filed around the same time with TT and Chime received their refund yet? I've been tracking everything methodically and my WMR shows one bar with "Return Received." Transcripts show processing. I'm trying to determine if this is a normal timeline or if I should be taking additional steps. What has been your experience with the early refund timing?

That "5-day early" promise is more like marketing hype than reality, especially during peak season. *laughs in IRS delays* Seriously though, TurboTax can only control when they submit your return, not how quickly the IRS processes it. The "early" part just means Chime doesn't hold your money for processing like traditional banks might - they release it as soon as the IRS sends the ACH. But the IRS has to actually send it first, which is the real bottleneck. Check your tax transcript if you can access it - that'll give you more technical details than the WMR tool, which is notoriously vague.

I was in a similar situation last year... waiting and wondering why my "early" refund wasn't showing up. I eventually discovered that the WMR tool doesn't always show accurate information. I found https://taxr.ai to be really helpful - it analyzed my transcript and explained exactly where my refund was in the process and when I could expect it. It helped me understand that my return was actually in the review stage even though WMR just showed "received." Maybe worth trying if you're looking for more clarity without having to decipher all the transcript codes yourself.

OMG I've been through this exact situation! If you're still waiting after 21 days, you NEED to talk to an actual IRS agent! I tried calling for DAYS and couldn't get through - so frustrating! Finally used Claimyr (https://claimyr.com) and got connected to an agent in about 15 minutes! They confirmed my return had a minor verification hold that wouldn't have shown up on WMR. The agent released it right there on the phone and I had my refund 3 days later! Completely worth it when you're stuck in limbo!

I'm always suspicious of these services that claim to get you through to the IRS faster. The IRS website says wait times are improving this year. Has anyone else actually verified this works? Seems like they're just taking advantage of desperate people waiting for their money.

Ngl I was skeptical too but it actually worked for me last month. Had a weird situation w/ my CTC and couldn't get thru for 2 wks. Used Claimyr and got an agent in ~25 mins. Saved me hours of redial hell. Just my exp tho, ymmv.

I've noticed a pattern with Chime and tax refunds over the past few years. Last year, I filed on February 10th with TurboTax and selected Chime for the early deposit. My refund didn't hit until March 1st despite the "5-day early" promise. The issue is that TurboTax's "early refund" marketing doesn't account for IRS processing time. If you have any credits like EITC or CTC, that can add 2-3 weeks. If your return was accepted on 2/14, I'd expect to see movement by early March at the latest. The transcript updating is actually a good sign - it means your return is in the system and being processed.

This whole early deposit thing is WAY more complicated than they make it sound! When I compare this to how my paycheck direct deposits work, it's completely different. Here's what's actually happening: 1. IRS has to fully process your return (can take 2-3 weeks) 2. IRS schedules an ACH payment to your bank 3. Banks typically hold funds for 1-2 days before releasing 4. Chime's "5 days early" just means they don't do that hold So the "early" part ONLY applies to that last step! It doesn't speed up the IRS at all. A lot of people are surprised by this every tax season. TurboTax and Chime make it sound like you'll get your refund faster than everyone else, but really you're just getting it without the bank hold (which is still nice, but not a miracle solution).

Is there any way to see when the IRS actually releases the payment versus when Chime receives it? I'm trying to understand if the delay is on the IRS side or Chime's side.

Let me walk you through a typical timeline based on my experience with TurboTax + Chime last year: Step 1: File return and get acceptance (Day 0) Step 2: IRS begins processing (Days 1-7) Step 3: IRS completes initial processing (Days 7-14) Step 4: IRS issues refund (Days 14-21) Step 5: Chime receives and posts immediately (same day as IRS issues) For me, I filed on February 8th last year, and my Chime deposit hit on February 22nd. That's 14 days total. I'm a bit concerned that you filed on the 14th and still don't have it - you're approaching 21 days. If you hit the 21-day mark with no refund, that's when I'd recommend contacting the IRS directly as it could indicate a review flag on your return.

I've worked with tax clients for years, and I can share that this tax season has been particularly slow for processing. I personally filed on January 29th and didn't get my direct deposit until February 20th - and that was with a very simple return! Last year, I had several clients who used the TurboTax + Chime combo. The average wait was 17 days from acceptance to deposit, despite the "5-day early" marketing. One client even called TurboTax customer service about it, and they explained that the 5-day early promise is compared to traditional banks, not compared to the IRS processing timeline. The IRS has been dealing with staffing issues and system updates this season, so everything is taking longer than usual.

Think of the tax refund process like waiting for a package. TurboTax is just the service that helps you place the order (your tax return). The IRS is the warehouse that has to process your order, pack it up (process your return), and ship it (issue your refund). Chime is just the delivery person who brings it to your door. No matter how fast your delivery person is, they can't deliver a package that hasn't shipped from the warehouse yet! Instead of constantly checking WMR, I recommend creating an account on the IRS website to view your tax transcript. It's like having access to the warehouse's internal tracking system instead of just the generic "out for delivery" status. The transcript will show specific codes that tell you exactly where your return is in the process.

That package analogy really makes sense! I think I might have misunderstood what the "5 days early" actually meant. I was able to check my transcript and I see code 570 followed by 971. Would you happen to know what those might indicate? It seems like there might be something more going on than just normal processing.
