2/25 TurboTax Filers with Fee Deduction & Chime - Status Update Thread

Per IRS Publication 1345 regarding refund processing timelines, those of us who filed on 2/25 with TurboTax and opted for fees taken from refund with deposit to Chime should be seeing movement by now. It's been 21 days which is the standard processing window according to IRC §6611. Can we use this thread to keep each other updated? I've been checking WMR hourly and still nothing but "processing" status. This is the third year I've used this exact setup and never had it take this long. Anyone else in the same situation?

Have you checked your tax transcript instead of just WMR? Isn't it possible that the delay could be related to the TPG (Tax Product Group) processing rather than the IRS itself? When third-party processors are involved, there's always an additional layer of processing time that many taxpayers aren't aware of until they experience delays.

That's exactly right. The refund actually follows this specific path: IRS → Santa Barbara TPG (TurboTax's bank) → Your Chime account. When you elect to have fees taken out, your money makes this extra stop, which can add 1-3 business days to the timeline, sometimes longer if there are verification holds.

I've been watching the TurboTax community forums at community.turbotax.com and there's a huge thread about this exact issue. Seems like there's a processing backlog with the 2/25 batch specifically. Some people who filed after you are getting their refunds first, which is super frustrating.

Did you claim any refundable credits like EITC or ACTC? Those trigger automatic additional verification procedures according to PATH Act protocols. I was in processing status for 31 days before my DDD appeared on my transcript.

Not OP but I'm in the same boat with 2/25 filing date. Did your WMR bars disappear at any point? Mine went from one bar to "still processing" with no bars about a week ago. Is that normal?

Been thru this b4. Lost my bars last week too. Transcript updated this AM w/ DDD for 3/22. WMR still shows processing. IME transcript always updates b4 WMR. Def check that if u can access it.

I was in this exact situation last year. Called the IRS regular number 14 times over 3 days and couldn't get through. Finally used Claimyr (https://youtu.be/_kiP6q8DX5c) and got connected to an agent in 18 minutes. Found out there was a simple verification flag on my account that the agent removed right away. Got my deposit 4 days later. The whole system is ridiculous - why should we have to pay a service just to talk to someone at the IRS?

Did you really need to call though? Most of these processing delays resolve themselves. Step 1: Check transcript. Step 2: Look for codes. Step 3: Wait the full 21 business days. Step 4: Then consider calling. People jump to calling way too quickly. That said, I've heard Claimyr does work if you absolutely need to get through.

I've been waiting 28 days now and really need my refund for rent. Did you have to provide any personal info to this Claimyr service? I'm always nervous about sharing my info with third parties when it comes to tax stuff.

I might be in the minority here, but my 2/25 TurboTax filing with Chime deposit and fee deduction actually processed yesterday! It seems that, in some cases, the specific combination of credits claimed and income types could possibly affect processing times. My transcript updated first, then WMR about 6 hours later, and the money hit my Chime account this morning around 4:30am.

Has anyone who filed exactly on 2/25 with TurboTax and Chime received the specific 570 code followed by 971 code on their transcript? I'm showing those codes with dates of 3/18/2024 and 3/25/2024 respectively. Does this mean I'll be waiting an additional 21 days from those dates?

Check your SBTPG account. Not just WMR. Not just transcripts. SBTPG shows when they receive the money. They're the middleman. They take the fees. Then send to Chime. Many people see it there first. Worth checking daily. Might give you peace of mind.

Just got my refund this morning! Filed 2/25 with TT, fees taken out, deposit to Chime. • Filed 2/25 in the evening • WMR showed one bar until 3/10 • Bars disappeared 3/11 • Transcript updated 3/18 with DDD of 3/21 • SBTPG showed "funded" last night • Money in Chime at 4:17am today Hang in there everyone. The system is working, just slowly.
