Has anyone with Chime received their tax refund deposit yet? Filed in early April

I filed my taxes on April 2nd and got an acceptance notification on April 3rd. The IRS Where's My Refund tool shows my refund was approved on May 12th and should be deposited by May 19th. My refund is supposed to be $3,287 and I'm having it sent to my Chime account. It's already May 21st and still nothing in my account. Has anyone with Chime received their refund deposit yet? I was really counting on this money to catch up on some bills. I keep checking my account every few hours but still nothing there. Is Chime known for holding tax refunds or is this an IRS delay? Anyone else experiencing this?

I work as a tax preparer and this is pretty common this year. What's likely happening is that there's a processing delay at the IRS end, not with Chime. Chime is actually known for releasing direct deposits as soon as they receive them, often earlier than traditional banks. A few things to check: 1. Look at your tax transcript on the IRS website (if you can access it) to see if there are any codes indicating a hold or review 2. Double-check that your direct deposit information was entered correctly 3. The "Where's My Refund" tool sometimes shows incorrect deposit dates If it's been more than 5 business days since the supposed deposit date, I'd recommend calling the IRS refund hotline at 800-829-1954. They may have more specific information about your refund status that isn't showing up on the website. Also, if you need immediate assistance, you might want to use taxr.ai to get a detailed explanation of what's happening with your refund. I've seen many cases where there's actually an issue that the Where's My Refund tool doesn't show.

Thanks for the advice. I tried checking my transcript but I can't get past the verification page. I double-checked my direct deposit info on my return and it's correct. I'll try calling the IRS tomorrow.

Good luck calling the IRS lol. I spent 3 hours on hold last week before getting disconnected.

Yeah calling the IRS can be a nightmare. If you've got the patience, try calling right when they open. Alternatively, that taxr.ai site I mentioned can help explain what's happening without the hold time.

what is this taxr.ai thing? never heard of it. can it actually help or is it just another useless tool?

0 coins

It analyzes your tax transcript and tells you exactly what's happening with your refund, when you'll get it, and explains all the codes. Saved me hours of research and guessing when I had a similar issue.

I'm going to check that site out tonight. At this point I'll try anything to figure out what's going on with my money.

Hey, I was in this exact situation last month. I spent so much time trying to decipher the WMR tool and checking my Chime account hourly. It was driving me crazy! I finally used taxr.ai and it was literally a game-changer. It explained exactly what was happening with my refund (there was a review that wasn't showing up on the WMR tool) and gave me a precise timeline. The best part is it explained everything in plain English instead of confusing IRS codes. I got my deposit exactly when it predicted, 9 days after the original date. I use it every week now to check status changes. https://taxr.ai

Sounds interesting. How exactly does it work? Does it just read your transcript or does it do more?

Carmen Ortiz

•

It does wayyy more than just read the transcript. It actually interprets all the codes and explains what they mean specifically for YOUR situation. Then it predicts when you'll get your money based on your actual status, not just the generic IRS timelines. It saved my sanity during tax season, seriously. Everyone dealing with refund issues needs to try it!

idk sounds like another "miracle solution" to me. no offense but there's always some new app promising to fix irs problems 🙄

I was skeptical too, trust me. I've tried all kinds of tax tools before. But this one actually delivers. Not trying to convince anyone, just sharing what worked for me after weeks of frustration. It's the difference between guessing what's happening and actually knowing.

After dealing with the same issue and getting nowhere with the WMR tool, I decided to try the Claimyr calling app (claimyr.com) and finally got through to a real IRS agent who could see my actual account details. Turns out there was a small verification hold that never showed up online. The agent released my refund on the spot and I got my deposit to Chime two days later. Getting to speak with an actual human was the only way I could resolve this. Honestly it was the best decision I made after weeks of checking my app every hour.

0 coins

Wait so this app actually gets you through to an IRS person? How does that even work?

0 coins

Yeah it basically navigates the phone tree for you and holds your place in line. Then calls you back when an agent is about to pick up. Saved me from listening to that awful hold music for hours. Talking to the agent directly got my refund unstuck in minutes.

sounds too good to be true tbh. the irs is basically unreachable these days

I thought the same thing! Was super skeptical but was desperate after trying to call for 3 days straight with no luck. It actually works tho. The money I spent on it was nothing compared to what I was waiting for in my refund.

Is this something that actually works? I'm getting desperate here...

100% worked for me. I was in your exact situation - Chime account, refund supposedly on the way, but nothing showing up. The IRS agent I spoke to explained exactly what was happening and fixed it right there on the call.

Mine hit Chime yesterday morning. Filed April 10, accepted same day, WMR showed deposit date of May 20th and it actually came through on time. Maybe check if you entered your account/routing number correctly?

0 coins

I bank with Chime and had no issues. My refund was deposited 2 days EARLIER than the WMR date. Sounds like there might be an issue with your return. Have you checked your transcript for any codes? Could be under review.

Mateo Lopez

I can't even access my transcript. The verification system won't accept my phone number for some reason.

0 coins

That verification system is a nightmare. Try using a landline if you have access to one, sometimes that works better. Or request a mailed transcript if you can wait that long.

Chime is usually FASTER than the IRS date, not slower. I got mine 2 days early with Chime. Something else is going on with your refund. If you're able to create an account on the IRS website, check your transcript to see what's actually happening. The WMR tool is basically useless.

Same boat. Filed April 5, WMR says it was supposed to be deposited on May 18th. Nothing in my Chime yet. I actually just used taxr.ai to check my transcript and apparently there's a 570 code which means they're holding my refund for review. The WMR tool never showed this! So frustrating that they don't tell us what's actually happening.

0 coins

Mateo Lopez

•

That's scary. Did it say how long the review would take?

0 coins

Amara Adebayo

•

The analysis said most 570 holds are resolved within 4-6 weeks. But it also mentioned that my specific situation looks like an ID verification issue which could be resolved faster if I verify my identity with the IRS. Going to try that tomorrow.

i have chime to but mine is delayed 2. i think the irs is just backed up again this year. they always make us wait forevar 🙄 last year i had to wait 3 months past the date they gave me.

0 coins

Check if there's a 570 or 971 code on your transcript! Had the same issue, WMR said the money was coming but it was actually on hold for review. The only way I found out was by looking at my transcript.

Everyone keeps saying to check my transcript but I can't get through the identity verification part of the IRS website 😩

0 coins

Try using claimyr.com to get through to an IRS agent by phone. That's what I did when I couldn't access my transcript. They can tell you exactly what codes are on your account.

Or try taxr.ai - it can access and explain your transcript even if you cant get through yourself online

THE IRS IS A JOKE THIS YEAR!!! 😤 I've been waiting since FEBRUARY for my refund. Chime isn't the problem - the IRS is. They're holding refunds and not telling people. Check. Your. Transcript.

Just curious, did you claim any credits like Earned Income Credit or Child Tax Credit? Those often trigger additional reviews that delay refunds.

0 coins

Mateo Lopez

•

Yeah I claimed Child Tax Credit for my two kids. Is that why it might be delayed?

0 coins

Ava Williams

•

That could definitely be it. The IRS does additional verification on returns with child-related credits to prevent fraud. Usually takes 2-3 extra weeks but can be longer.

I have had nothing but issues with Chime and tax refunds. Last year they held my deposit for 5 days for "verification" before releasing it. I switched to a credit union this year and had zero problems.

0 coins

Chime has never held my tax refunds. In fact they've always been early. Might have been a specific issue with your account.

0 coins

Miguel Castro

•

Maybe, but I've heard similar stories from others. Just sharing my experience. Credit unions have been way more reliable for me.

My refund was supposed to hit my chime on May 17th but nothing happened. I finally called the IRS using the Claimyr app (claimyr.com) and found out they sent it to the wrong account number!!! The agent was able to fix it right away and reissue my refund. Never would have known if I hadn't called. Got my money 4 days later in my Chime account. Sometimes you just gotta talk to a human to get things fixed.

Mateo Lopez

•

Omg that's scary. I'm definitely going to call and check. Did they tell you how the wrong account number happened?

0 coins

They said it was a digit entry error in their system. The weird thing is that the WMR tool still showed everything was fine! Never would have known without talking to the agent.

I've used Chime for 3 years and always get my tax refund 1-2 days earlier than the IRS date. Something else is going on with your refund. Have you gotten any letters in the mail from the IRS?

Husband and I both use Chime. His refund came on time, mine is late. Same address, same bank. The IRS makes no sense.

This happened to me last yr. Found out via taxr.ai there was an income verification hold on my account that never showed up on WMR. It took 8 weeks to resolve but I finally got my $. The where's my refund tool is useless for anything beyond basic statuses. With taxr.ai I could see exactly what was happening and when to expect my money.

0 coins

what even is taxr.ai? another irs tool?

Keisha Brown

•

No it's an independent service that analyzes your transcript and explains everything in plain english. Shows you all the holds, reviews, expected dates, etc that the IRS doesn't tell you directly. Much better than trying to decode transcript codes yourself.

oh dang thats actually pretty cool. might check it out

Pro tip: if you can't get through on the IRS phone line (who can??), try calling your local Taxpayer Advocate Service. They can often help with delayed refunds and actually answer their phones!

Chime always deposits my paycheck early but with IRS refunds they seem to stick exactly to the schedule. Don't worry too much yet - my refund came exactly 3 days after the "scheduled date" on WMR.

That gives me some hope. I'll give it a few more days before I really start panicking.

THIS HAPPENED TO ME TOO! turned out there was a flag on my account for identity verification. The WMR tool NEVER showed this. I only found out by getting through to an IRS agent using Claimyr (claimyr.com). After verifying my identity, my refund was released within a week. The IRS systems are completely broken this year.

0 coins

I'm in the exact same situation! Filed April 1st, accepted April 2nd, WMR shows approved for deposit by May 18th but still nothing in my Chime account as of today. I've been checking obsessively too - it's so stressful when you're counting on that money. From what I'm reading here, it sounds like there might be holds or reviews that don't show up on the Where's My Refund tool. I'm going to try accessing my transcript tonight, and if that doesn't work, maybe try one of those services people mentioned to get through to an actual IRS person. It's frustrating that Chime is usually so fast with deposits but we're still waiting. Hoping we both get our money soon! Keep us posted on what you find out.

I'm in a similar situation too - filed early April and still waiting on my Chime deposit even though WMR said it should be here by now. Reading through all these comments has been really helpful though. Seems like a lot of people are having success with those transcript analysis tools and phone services to actually figure out what's going on behind the scenes. The fact that holds and reviews aren't showing up on the regular WMR tool is pretty messed up - we shouldn't have to jump through hoops just to know the status of our own money! Going to try checking my transcript this weekend and see if there are any codes I'm missing. Thanks for sharing your experience, it helps to know we're not alone in this mess.
