Filed February 15th - When should I expect direct deposit with Chime?

I e-filed my tax return on February 15th and chose direct deposit with Chime. The IRS website shows my return was accepted the same day. Its been almost 2 weeks now and im getting anxious because i need that money for some emergency bills. The where's my refund tool just says its still processing. Has anyone filed around the same time and already received their refund through Chime? How long did yours take? I claimed EIC but no dependents if that matters.

Yara Khoury

The standard processing time for e-filed returns with direct deposit is 21 days, but that's just the IRS estimate. With Chime, you might actually get it 1-2 days earlier than traditional banks once the IRS releases the funds. If you claimed the Earned Income Credit (EIC), be aware that the IRS has additional verification processes for those returns, which can extend the timeline. The PATH Act requires the IRS to hold refunds for returns claiming certain credits like EIC until at least February 27th this year. Since you filed on February 15th and we're still in that holding period, this is completely normal. You can check your tax transcript on the IRS website to see if there are any specific codes that might give more information about your refund status. Look for code 846 which indicates a refund issued date. If it goes beyond 21 days without any update, then you might want to call the IRS refund hotline at 800-829-1954.

Thanks for the detailed info! I completely forgot about the PATH Act delay for EIC claims. I'll try to check my transcript online. Fingers crossed! 🤞

Good luck getting through to the IRS if you call that number! I spent 3 hours on hold last week and then got disconnected.

I had trouble gettin through to IRS too until I used claimyr.com. Got a callback and actually talked to someone who helped resolve my issue. Totally worth it when you need answers fast.

Is that service actually reliable? seems sus that they can get u through when nobody else can

100% worked for me. They basically wait on hold for you and call when an agent is ready. Saved me literally hours of frustration and I got my issue fixed in one call.

I used this too! The IRS agent even told me they're swamped with calls and it'll only get worse as tax season progresses.

I was in the exact same situation trying to figure out what was happening with my refund. Spent hours trying to decode my transcript and getting nowhere. Finally used taxr.ai and it was a game changer - it analyzed everything and told me exactly what was happening with my return and when to expect my deposit. Saved me so much headache trying to be a detective piecing together random codes and dates. The site gave me a clear timeline based on my actual transcript data. https://taxr.ai

Sounds interesting. How exactly does it work? Does it just read your transcript or does it do more?

It basically translates all those confusing IRS codes and dates into plain English. Shows you exactly where your return is in the process, if there are any issues, and gives an accurate timeline. Honestly wish I found it sooner - would've saved me weeks of anxiety. It even explains what each code means so you actually understand what's happening.

JUST TRIED THIS AND OMG!!! 🙌 It showed me exactly what was happening with my refund and why it was delayed. The IRS website is so useless compared to this! Everyone dealing with refund confusion needs to use this tool like yesterday.

You just upload your transcript that you download from the IRS site. Super straightforward and way better than guessing or waiting on hold for hours with the IRS.

I filed Feb 10th with Chime and got my refund on March 1st. I also had EIC. The PATH Act holds those refunds until mid/late February so that's probably why. My WMR tool didn't update until the day before I got my deposit, so don't worry if it still says processing.

That's really helpful to know, thank you! Gives me hope mine will be coming soon too.

I filed Feb 12 also with Chime and still nothing... did yours ever show the bars on WMR or just processing?

Mine just said "still processing" right up until it suddenly changed to approved the day before deposit. The bars never showed up for me this year for some reason.

After spending literally 3 weeks trying to reach a human at the IRS about my refund situation, I finally used this calling service called claimyr.com and they got me connected to an agent in under an hour. The agent was able to tell me exactly why my refund was delayed (simple verification issue) and released it immediately. Best money I've ever spent to get answers from the IRS instead of their vague website messages.

How does that even work? The IRS phone system is literally designed to make it impossible to reach anyone 🤣

They have some system that navigates the IRS phone maze and holds your place in line. Then they call you when an agent is about to be connected. Talking to a real person solved in 10 minutes what I couldn't figure out in weeks of checking WMR.

It's not sketchy, just a service that waits on hold for you. I've used it twice this year. It's like having someone stand in line for you at the DMV.

definitely not sketchy. just a smart solution to a frustrating problem. When you NEED to talk to the IRS but can't waste 3 hours on hold, it's literally a lifesaver.

Chime usually posts 2 days early once the IRS releases funds. That being said, I've noticed in my experience that Chime Tax refunds don't always come early like regular direct deposits do. Filed Feb 8, got my deposit March 2nd. Hope that helps.

Anyone else notice the IRS is moving super slow this year compared to last? I filed mid-feb last year and had my refund in 10 days. This year I'm going on 3 weeks with nothing but "still processing"... 😡

They're understaffed and overwhelmed. My brother works for the IRS and says they're drowning in returns right now.

yes its ridiculous.. its our money and they make us wait forever to get it back. but if we owe them they want it instantly 💯

Check your transcript online! WMR is notoriously unreliable. Your transcript will show code 846 with a date when your refund is scheduled. That's the most accurate way to know. Remember the PATH Act means EIC refunds couldn't even begin processing until February 27th this year.

I've been trying to access my transcript but keep getting an error on the IRS site. Is there another way to view it?

Try accessing it early morning or late night when the site isn't as busy. Also make sure you have all the verification info they ask for (loan numbers, credit card, etc). If that doesn't work, you can request it by mail but that takes forever.

if you want to actually understand what your transcript means when you get it, use taxr.ai - it explains everything in plain english instead of cryptic IRS codes

With Chime i always get my tax refund 2-3 days earlier than the official IRS deposit date. So if your transcripts show a deposit date of March 15 for example, you might get it March 12-13 with Chime.

Filed Feb 7, claimed EIC, got deposit to Chime on March 3rd. The PATH Act delayed everything till late February. Hang in there!

The IRS is a joke this year. WMR hasn't been updated in weeks, can't get anyone on the phone, and they expect us to just wait patiently while they hold OUR money. 🙄

If ur return has EIC IRS legally cant issue the refund until after Feb 27th bcuz of the PATH Act. So ur looking at first week of March earliest. I'd expect between March 5-12 for Chime.

Just wanted to say that my husband and I were checking WMR constantly for weeks and it just said processing. Then suddenly we got our deposit with no warning or status update. Sometimes the systems don't sync properly. You might get your money before WMR even updates!

This happened to me too! WMR never updated from "still processing" but the money showed up in my account anyways. The IRS systems are so broken 🤦‍♀️

PROTIP: If you want real answers about your refund status, check your account transcript on IRS.gov instead of Where's My Refund. It shows actual codes and dates that tell you what's happening with your return processing. Saved me so much anxiety last year!

Honestly, the transcript is just as confusing unless you know how to read IRS codes. I spent hours trying to figure mine out and still wasn't sure. Ended up using taxr.ai and it explained everything clearly. Worth checking out if you're stuck trying to decode the transcript yourself. https://taxr.ai

I'm in almost the exact same boat - filed Feb 17, using Chime, claimed EIC. My transcript updated yesterday with a DD date of March 7. Since you filed a few days before me, check your transcript soon if you can access it!

FYI the IRS has a huge backlog this year. They're still catching up from pandemic staffing issues and the new tax law changes are slowing everything down. My tax guy told me to expect delays for everyone this season.
