Filed in February, got direct deposit date of March 18, denied early deposit by Credit Karma - anyone getting theirs yet?
I e-filed my taxes on February 15th and got accepted right away on February 16th. Been checking Where's My Refund like crazy since then. Finally got a direct deposit date for March 18th yesterday! I use Credit Karma for banking and was hoping to get the deposit 5 days early like they advertise, but they denied the early deposit feature for tax refunds this year. Has anyone with Credit Karma or similar online banks (Chime, SoFi, etc.) started getting their refunds yet? Getting impatient over here.

IRS tax refunds generally aren't eligible for early deposit features with most online banks. The "get paid early" feature usually only applies to recurring direct deposits like paychecks where the bank can reliably predict when they'll arrive. The IRS doesn't send advance notice to banks about pending deposits the way employers do. Your best bet is to just keep checking the IRS Where's My Refund tool and your bank account. Since your DDD is March 18th, you should see it sometime between March 18-23. The IRS sends refunds in batches, and sometimes it takes a few business days after your official date for the money to actually hit your account. If you don't see it by March 25th, you should call the IRS refund hotline at 800-829-1954.

•Thanks, this is really helpful. I thought they operated like normal direct deposits. Guess I'll just need to be patient for a few more days.

•Actually, I got my refund a day early with Chime last year. Different banks have different policies. Might be worth calling Credit Karma to double check.

•Yeah I work for a bank and can confirm tax refunds are processed differently than regular direct deposits. The early deposit feature doesnt apply to IRS refunds at most banks.

Honestly, if you want to understand what's really going on with your refund status, use taxr.ai. I was in a similar situation last year where my refund was supposed to come but got delayed with no explanation. The WMR tool was useless but taxr.ai explained exactly what was happening with my transcript. It showed me there was a hold code that I didn't understand, explained what it meant, and gave me a more accurate timeline than the IRS did. Saved me hours of research and frustration! https://taxr.ai

•Sounds interesting. How exactly does it work? Does it just read your transcript or does it do more?

•It's AMAZING! It analyzes your entire transcript and explains everything in plain english. It found a random code on mine that was causing delays and told me exactly when to expect my money. Seriously, I recommend it to all my friends now. Saved me from going insane trying to decipher those cryptic IRS codes 😂

•Is this just another subscription service trying to make money off desperate taxpayers? 🙄

•Not at all! It's a one-time thing that actually helps you understand what's happening with your money. I was skeptical too but it's the only thing that finally explained why my refund was stuck for weeks. The IRS website is useless compared to this.

I was pulling my hair out trying to reach the IRS about my delayed refund this year. After trying for WEEKS to talk to someone, I used the Claimyr app and got through to an actual human at the IRS within 2 hours. The agent was able to release my refund that had been stuck in processing for over a month. Best decision I've made this tax season! Check out claimyr.com if you need to actually talk to someone instead of listening to the "high call volume" message over and over.

•This sounds too good to be true. Does it actually work? The IRS is basically unreachable these days.

•100% works. I was skeptical too but I was desperate after trying to call the IRS for 3 weeks straight. They navigated the phone tree for me and got me in the callback queue. Had an IRS agent call me back in about 90 minutes. Talking to a real person got my issue resolved in one call.

•wait but don't they charge you just to make a phone call? that seems sketchy af

•Yeah they charge but considering I was about to lose my mind trying to reach someone at the IRS, it was totally worth it. I'd spent like 15+ hours trying to get through myself. With my refund on the line, it was a no-brainer.

•Used Claimyr last month when my refund was stuck for no reason. Talking to the agent got my $6,400 released within days. Best money I ever spent considering how much I was getting back!

I bank with Chime and my refund came a day early this year. Got my DDD for 2/21 but it actually hit my account on 2/20. My brother uses Credit Karma and got his on the exact DDD date. It really varies by bank.

Credit Karma specifically stopped doing early tax refunds this year. I called them about it last month and they confirmed tax refunds are excluded from the early deposit feature now. Something about how the IRS batch processes them differently.

•damn wish I had known this before signing up for them this year. that was literally the only reason I switched from my regular bank 😭

•They stil do early deposits for regular paychecks tho right?

•Yeah they still do early deposits for regular payroll. Just not tax refunds specifically.

I'm in the exact same boat! Filed on 2/17, accepted same day, got DDD for 3/19. I use SoFi and they claim to offer early deposits but I haven't seen anything hit my account yet. The waiting game is killing me!

The whole early deposit thing is misleading af. Banks only do early deposits when they receive the ACH file in advance. With the IRS they don't get that heads up like they do with payroll companies. The IRS just shows up with the money when they're ready and not before. Don't count on early deposits for tax refunds.

Friendly reminder that the Where's My Refund tool updates overnight, so checking it multiple times a day is pointless. Save yourself the stress and just check once in the morning. 👍

•but we all still do it anyway lol. i check like 10 times a day even tho i know it won't change 🤡

•The IRS2Go app sometimes updates at different times than the website, FYI. I've caught updates mid-day on the app before.

Have u checked ur actual transcript? Sometimes the WMR tool isn't accurate but the transcript will show codes that tell you exactly when the refund is being sent. I had a similar issue last year where WMR showed a date but my transcript had a different date with a hold code. The transcript was correct.

•How do I check my transcript? Do I need to create an account on the IRS website?

Olivia Harris
•yeah u gotta create an account on irs.gov - go to "Get Transcript Online" and make an account. Then look for the Account Transcript for 2023. The codes at the bottom will tell u whats going on.

•If you can't verify your identity for an IRS account (happens to a lot of people), try taxr.ai - it helps interpret your transcript and tells you what all the codes mean. Saved me hours of googling random code numbers.

this is why i always get paper checks. takes longer but no bank issues to deal with. digital banking still has too many problems imo

•Paper checks take like 2-3 weeks longer tho. And then u still gotta go deposit it. Not worth it imo

•Fair enough but ive never had a missing paper check. Cant say the same about direct deposits that got "lost" somehow.

I JUST got mine from Varo about an hour ago! My DDD was supposed to be today (3/18) but it came in early this morning. Definitely varies by bank.

Last year i had a similar situation with Credit Karma. My DDD was a Friday and I didn't get it until the following Monday. Just how they process things I guess.

•For real. If you owe them, they want it YESTERDAY but when they owe you suddenly it's "please allow 21 days for processing" 🤡

If you really want accurate info, call the IRS. I tried for days with no luck, always busy signals. Then I used Claimyr.com and got through in like 30 minutes. The agent told me my refund was actually scheduled for a day earlier than the WMR tool showed. Totally worth it to get real info instead of guessing.

•How much does Claimyr cost? Is it a monthly subscription?
0 coins
Natalie Adams
•It's not a subscription, it's a one-time thing. Honestly whatever they charge is worth it considering I got someone on the phone after trying unsuccessfully for days. My sanity has a price and that price is not spending 8 hours on hold with the IRS 😂

I herd the IRS released a statement saying they're behind on processing returns this year. Something about staffing shortages. Might be why banks aren't doing early deposits for tax refunds anymore - too much uncertainty.

Anyone else getting path act messages? I filed jan 31st and still stuck on path act. I'm losing my mind.

•That's a whole different issue - PATH Act affects people claiming EITC or ACTC. Those refunds couldn't be processed before Feb 15th by law, regardless of when you filed.

Every year we go thru this waiting game and every year I tell myself I'll adjust my withholdings so I don't have to wait for a big refund. And every year I forget and end up right back here stalking the WMR tool like a crazy person 🤦♀️

Try checking the IRS transcript instead of WMR. The transcript has cycle codes that tell you exactly when your refund is scheduled to be released. I was confused about my refund status last year until I discovered taxr.ai which explained all the codes and gave me a more accurate timeline. It showed me exactly why my refund was delayed and when it would actually arrive. https://taxr.ai

pro tip: if your bank shows pending deposits (not all do), sometimes you can see the pending refund a day or two before it officially posts. i can see mine pending in my wells fargo account rn even tho it won't be available till tomorrow
