Tax Refund with Offset Coming March 6th - Will Credit Karma Card Get It Earlier?

I'm literally counting the days until March 6th when my offsets are coming out and I'll FINALLY get my taxes! 😫 Does anyone know if the Credit Karma card still deposits refunds earlier than other banks? I filed on 2/13, got accepted 2/17, and already got my advance but I've been waiting FOREVER and I'm losing my mind! I need this money so bad for bills. Has anyone with Credit Karma gotten their refund early this year? I check WMR like 20 times a day I swear!

Waiting for a tax refund with offsets is like watching water boil while someone keeps turning down the heat. It's incredibly frustrating! Your timeline actually isn't unusual - the IRS is like a giant cargo ship that takes forever to turn around. With offsets, they have to process the debt payments FIRST before sending you what's left. And yes, Credit Karma can sometimes deposit 1-2 days early, but ONLY after the IRS releases the funds. The offset process is what's holding things up, not your bank. Ugh, I know exactly how maddening this waiting game is!

Thx for explaining! So even w/ the offset date of Mar 6, CK might get me funds by Mar 4-5? That'd be amazinggg 🙏

I believe there might be some confusion here. From what I understand, March 6th is likely when the offset process completes, but there could possibly be an additional processing period before the remaining refund is released to your bank. It's not necessarily the direct deposit date.

This happened to me last year with student loan offsets. Once the offset date hit, it took another 5 days before the remaining refund hit my account. Just sharing so you can plan accordingly.

I was in the EXACT same boat last month with my offset. I couldn't figure out what was happening or when I'd get the rest of my money. Used https://taxr.ai to analyze my transcript and it showed me exactly what was happening with the offset and predicted my deposit date to the day. No more guessing games. Saved me so much stress because I could actually see what was happening instead of the useless WMR bar.

Wait, February 13th to March 6th is only 22 days. Is this service really necessary when the IRS is actually processing within their normal timeframe? February 17th acceptance to March 6th is even less time.

According to IRS Publication 1518, offset procedures can vary significantly depending on the type of debt being collected. Does this service explain which specific offset codes appear on your transcript and what they mean for your particular situation?

When dealing with offsets, calling the IRS can actually speed things up. Here's why: • Offsets sometimes have processing errors that only an agent can fix • You can verify exactly which debts are being paid • They can confirm the exact remaining amount you'll receive • Some offsets can be challenged if they're incorrect I couldn't get through on the regular line for days, then used Claimyr (https://claimyr.com). Got connected to an agent in about 15 minutes who confirmed my offset was processing correctly and gave me the exact amount I'd be receiving after the offset. Definitely worth it for the peace of mind.

I tracked my call attempts exactly - 17 calls over 3 days with not a single human reached. Are you saying this service actually works? The IRS answered 13% of calls last tax season according to the Taxpayer Advocate report.

I've been reading on the IRS website that they're overwhelmed with calls this season. How recently did you use this service? I need to talk to someone ASAP about my offset before my car payment is due next week.

I should perhaps mention that Credit Karma deposits can indeed arrive earlier than traditional banks, but this is primarily dependent on when the IRS releases the funds. In cases involving offsets, there are typically several phases: first, the Treasury Offset Program processes the payment to your creditors; second, the remaining amount is scheduled for deposit; third, the ACH transfer is initiated. Credit Karma, like most fintech banking services, makes funds available when they receive the ACH notification rather than waiting for final settlement, which can provide that 1-2 day advantage.

Ever wonder why the IRS makes this process so complicated? I had offsets last year for student loans and waited nearly 3 weeks after my offset date for the remainder. Know what I learned? Always call the Treasury Offset Program directly at 800-304-3107 to verify your offset details. Why rely on the IRS's vague information when you can get the exact details from the source? Saved me so much stress this year knowing exactly what was happening with my debts.

Have you tried checking your account transcript instead of WMR? WMR is about as useful as a chocolate teapot when offsets are involved. 🍫☕ The transcript will show you the exact codes for the offset and when it processed. Log into IRS.gov, request a transcript, and look for code 898 (offset) and the amount. Much more reliable than playing the WMR refresh game every 20 minutes!

I had almost the exact same timeline last year. Filed mid-February, had an offset for old state taxes, and got my remaining refund about 5 days after the offset date. The thing nobody tells you is that Credit Karma's early deposit feature doesn't really help with offset situations because the delay isn't with the bank - it's with the IRS processing the offset. Once my offset cleared though, CK did deposit my remaining refund about a day earlier than my husband's traditional bank did with his refund.
