Exact IRS (1-800-829-1040) and Cross River Bank (877-552-7255) Phone Menu Steps to Track Your Tax Refund Status

For anyone who filed early with TurboTax, I've found some really helpful shortcuts to track your refund and deal with Cross River Bank (CRB)! Trouble getting a real person from the IRS? Call 1-800-829-1040 Press 1, then 2, then 1, then 3 and finally 2. Here, an automated person will come on and ask what you need help with. Say "direct deposit verification." It will ask you "do you need to speak to an agent about this?" Say yes and then it transfers you. How to Call Cross River Bank (CRB) Yourself: 877-552-7255 Press "All Other ACH Deposits" Ask: "Can you confirm if you have my tax refund from the IRS, and when will it be sent to my personal bank?" IF YOU GET PUSH BACK, I pushed back and exercised my right to confirm where my federal refund was sent. The IRS is required to provide that information, and they told me directly that my refund was sent to Cross River Bank. Once I had that info, CRB confirmed they received it and gave me the expected timeline (1-3 business days). If they try to refuse, just insist that the IRS already provided the routing number, and you just need to confirm processing. What to Expect: If CRB releases the money today, it could hit your bank by tomorrow (1/30). If they take the full processing time, expect it by Friday (1/31) or Monday (2/3). Check your bank account dailyβ€”ACH transfers usually post overnight. Your money isn't lost, it's just processing through their system. These shortcuts have worked for getting actual humans on the phone instead of dealing with robots all day! Hope this helps!

The image shows detailed contact instructions for tracking tax refunds through both the IRS and Cross River Bank (CRB). For the IRS, there's a specific sequence to reach a human agent: call 1-800-829-1040 and press 1-2-1-3-2, then say "direct deposit verification" when prompted. This bypasses the usual automated system hurdles. For Cross River Bank interactions, the number 877-552-7255 is provided with instructions to select "All Other ACH Deposits." The key phrase to use with CRB representatives is specifically worded: "Can you confirm if you have my tax refund from the IRS, and when will it be sent to my personal bank?" The OCR reveals important timing details: deposits initiated by CRB could arrive as soon as the next day (1/30), with a maximum processing window extending to Friday (1/31) or Monday (2/3). This 1-3 business day timeline is standard for ACH transfers, which typically process overnight. A crucial detail shown in the OCR is the strategy for handling CRB resistance: reference that the IRS has already provided their routing number and confirmed the refund was sent to CRB. This typically facilitates cooperation from CRB representatives, as they're more likely to assist when they know you have this information from the IRS.

β€’

WAY better than WMR! It analyzes everything - tells you if there are delays, what codes mean, and gives you a really specific timeline. Plus it explains what you need to do if theres an issue πŸ’―

My WMR says ddd of 26th and all bars are full. Says my refund was sent. It is now the 28th and nothing. What is going on?! All fees were taken out.

0 coins

@Felicia Luce if your WMR shows DDD of 26th and all bars are full, that means the IRS already sent your refund. Since it s'the 28th and you haven t'received it, you should call Cross River Bank at 877-552-7255 and press All "Other ACH Deposits to" ask about the status. They might still be processing it on their end. The IRS has done their part - now it s'just waiting for CRB to release it to your bank!

Just tried the IRS number sequence and it worked perfectly! Got through to an agent in about 15 minutes. They confirmed my refund was sent to Cross River Bank on the 24th. Then called CRB using the steps above and they said it should hit my account by end of business today or tomorrow morning. This post literally saved me hours of being on hold with different numbers. Thanks for sharing the exact menu steps!

That's awesome! Really glad the phone sequence worked for you. It's so frustrating when you're stuck in automated phone loops for hours. Did Cross River Bank give you any tracking info or just the timeline? I'm still waiting to hear back from them about mine.

@Yuki Ito This is exactly what I needed to see! I ve'been stuck in phone hell for 3 days trying to get answers. Going to try this sequence right now. Did the IRS agent give you any specific details about why it takes so long once it hits CRB? Seems like that s'where everyone gets stuck waiting.

Just wanted to add my experience - called the IRS number using the 1-2-1-3-2 sequence this morning and it worked like a charm! Agent confirmed my refund hit Cross River Bank yesterday. When I called CRB at 877-552-7255, they were super helpful once I mentioned the IRS had already confirmed they received it. They said it's in final processing and should be in my account within 24-48 hours. Pro tip: have your SSN and filing status ready when you call both numbers - speeds things up a lot! Really appreciate this post, been stressing about where my money was for days πŸ™

@Maya Diaz Thanks for sharing your experience! This is exactly what I needed to hear as someone who s'been waiting and stressing too. Quick question - when you called CRB, did they ask for any verification info besides your SSN? I m'planning to call them tomorrow and want to make sure I have everything ready. Also, did they give you any kind of reference number or confirmation that you can use to track the final processing? Really hoping this works as smoothly for me as it did for you!

This is incredibly helpful! I've been stuck in automated phone hell for 3 days trying to figure out where my refund is. Filed with TurboTax on the 22nd and WMR has been showing "processing" with no updates. Going to try the IRS number sequence (1-800-829-1040, press 1-2-1-3-2) first thing tomorrow morning to see if they can tell me whether it's been sent to Cross River Bank yet. Really appreciate you taking the time to write out the exact steps and what to say - it's so frustrating when you don't know the right phrases to get past the automated systems. Fingers crossed this works as well for me as it has for others in the comments! 🀞

@Hiroshi Nakamura I m'in almost the exact same situation! Filed on the 21st and WMR has been stuck on processing "for" days now. It s'so stressful not knowing if there s'an issue or if it s'just normal delays. I m'definitely going to try calling tomorrow using these steps too. Have you tried checking your transcript to see if there s'any additional info there? Someone mentioned earlier that taxr.ai can help decode it, but I haven t'tried it yet. Really hoping we both get some answers soon - this waiting game is brutal! Keep us posted on how the calls go for you.

This is exactly what I needed! Just got off the phone with both numbers and wanted to share my results. The IRS sequence (1-800-829-1040, 1-2-1-3-2, then say "direct deposit verification") worked perfectly - got through to a real person in about 20 minutes. They confirmed my refund was sent to Cross River Bank on 1/27. Then called CRB at 877-552-7255, selected "All Other ACH Deposits" and asked the exact question you suggested. The rep was actually really helpful once I mentioned the IRS had confirmed they sent it to CRB. They said it's in their processing queue and should hit my bank account within 1-2 business days. Such a relief to finally get real answers instead of generic "still processing" messages! Thanks for sharing these specific steps and phrases - made all the difference in actually getting through to humans who could help πŸ‘

This is so reassuring to read! I'm a total newcomer to dealing with tax refund issues and was getting really overwhelmed by all the automated phone systems. The fact that you got real answers from both the IRS and CRB using these exact steps gives me hope. I filed on 1/23 and my WMR has been stuck on "still processing" since then. Going to try these phone numbers tomorrow morning. Quick question - when you called CRB, did they need any specific info from you besides confirming the IRS sent it to them? Want to make sure I have everything ready before I call. Really appreciate you sharing your success story! πŸ™

This is super helpful! I'm new to filing taxes and had no idea about these phone sequences or that Cross River Bank was even involved with TurboTax refunds. Filed my return on 1/25 and have been checking WMR obsessively with no luck - it just keeps saying "still processing." Really appreciate you laying out the exact button presses and what to say to the reps. One question - if the IRS tells me my refund was sent to CRB, but CRB says they don't have it yet, is that normal or should I be worried? Also, do you know if weekends count toward that 1-3 business day processing time at CRB? Thanks again for taking the time to share all these details - makes navigating this whole process way less intimidating! πŸ˜…

@Zoe Papanikolaou Welcome to the tax filing world! Don t'worry, we ve'all been there with the confusion. If the IRS says they sent it to CRB but CRB doesn t'have it yet, that s'actually pretty normal - there can be a 1-2 day delay between when the IRS sends it and when it shows up in CRB s'system. As for weekends, they typically don t'count toward business days, so if CRB gets it on a Friday, the 1-3 business day clock would start on Monday. The waiting is definitely the worst part, but you re'doing everything right by checking and following up! Keep us posted on how your calls go 😊
