IRS2Go Shows "Refund Received" After 3/17 ID Verification - When Will Head of Household Refund Be Approved?

I just checked my refund status on the IRS2Go app after verifying my identity both online and over the phone on 3/17. The status has updated from nothing to showing "Refund Received" but still shows empty circles for "Refund Approved" and "Refund Sent" stages. The exact message says: 'We have received your tax return and it is being processed. Please Note: For refund information, please continue to check here, or visit IRS.gov/Refunds. Updates to refund status are made no more than once a day.' I filed as Head of Household this year. The app clearly shows my filing status as Head of Household and displays the three-stage refund tracker with only the first stage filled in (Refund Received), while the "Refund Approved" and "Refund Sent" stages are still pending. Does this mean I'll get my refund date tomorrow? I'm particularly anxious because after verifying my identity both online and through the phone on 3/17, it finally updated to this status. The IRS2Go app has the navigation options at the bottom for Refunds, Payments, Tax Help, and Connect, but I'm mostly concerned with the refund status page. Anyone know how long after this "We have received your tax return and it is being processed" message appears until I'll see an approval and direct deposit date? Is this a good sign that things are moving now after the identity verification?

Javier Mendoza

The message you're seeing is just the standard processing notification. After identity verification, it typically takes 9 weeks for the IRS to complete processing, though many people see movement much sooner. The 'refund received and processing' status is just the first step after verification and doesn't necessarily mean you'll get a date tomorrow. The typical progression is: - Return Received - Return Processing - Refund Approved (this is when you'll see a direct deposit date) - Refund Sent After ID verification, it could be anywhere from a few days to several weeks before you see the 'Refund Approved' message with a deposit date. I've seen people get dates within a week after verification, while others wait 3-4 weeks. Check your tax transcript if you can access it - that will often show movement before WMR updates.

Ugh thats longer than I thought. I'll check my transcript. How do I find that again?

Go to IRS.gov, click on Get Transcript Online. You'll need to create an ID.me account if you don't already have one. The account transcript is the most helpful - look for an 846 code which will show your refund date.

I was in the same boat and ended up using taxr.ai to understand my transcript. So much easier than trying to decode all those codes and dates myself. The IRS really needs to make this stuff more understandable for normal people!

This is all accurate info. Also wanted to add that WMR doesn't always update properly. I've had my refund direct deposited while WMR still showed 'processing' 🙄

Actually yes - if your refund is issued more than 45 days after the filing deadline (usually April 15), the IRS does pay interest. But id verification delays don't automatically qualify you for interest.

I was so confused by my transcript and all these different codes and cycles - I found this tool called taxr.ai that actually explained everything in normal human language! It showed me exactly where my refund was in the process and when I could expect it. Saved me hours of googling and guessing what was happening with my money. https://taxr.ai

Sounds interesting. How exactly does it work? Does it just read your transcript or does it do more?

It actually does a lot more than just reading the transcript! You upload your transcript and it analyzes all the codes, spots any issues, and gives you a clear timeline of what's happening and what to expect next. It even compares your situation to others to give you realistic estimates. SO much better than trying to decode everything myself. Literally saved my sanity during this tax season!

HOLY CRAP THIS TOOL IS AMAZING! Just tried it and it explained everything that's been confusing me for weeks! Why doesn't the IRS just explain things this clearly?! Everyone dealing with tax return issues NEEDS to try this.

Is it safe though? I'm always nervous about sharing my tax info with random sites...

Totally get the concern - I was hesitant too. But they just need your transcript, not your SSN or anything super sensitive. It's basically just interpreting the public IRS codes that nobody understands without a tax degree lol.

After weeks of getting that same message and not being able to reach anyone at the IRS, I finally got through using claimyr.com and had a real agent call me back. They explained my situation and told me exactly when to expect my refund - way faster than waiting for WMR to update. It was the best money I've ever spent to finally get my questions answered directly from an IRS agent.

does this actually work? seems kinda sketchy ngl

Totally works! I was super doubtful too but I was desperate after trying to call the IRS like 30+ times. They set up a callback and I had an actual IRS agent on the phone within a couple hours. The agent fixed my issue right away and my refund was approved the next day.

Wait so the IRS will actually CALL YOU BACK?? This changes everything.

Yeah! The app basically navigates the IRS phone tree for you and secures a callback slot that would otherwise be nearly impossible to get. Talking to an actual human at the IRS made all the difference.

I had the same message for THREE WEEKS after verifying my identity. Don't expect anything to happen quickly. The IRS is still working through a massive backlog. Just be patient and keep checking every few days.

Does anyone know if the cycle code matters? Mine has 20231805 which supposedly means it updates on Thursdays? But I swear the WMR changes overnight sometimes. The whole system is so confusing!

StarStrider

Cycle codes are weird. The last two digits (05) mean its a weekly update (usually Thursday night/Friday morning). If it ended in 01-04 it would be daily. But even with weekly codes, WMR can update at random times. The IRS system is from the stone age 🦖

Look for code 570 and 971 on your transcript. If you have those after verification, it could mean additional review. If you just see 150 with a future date, you're probably good and just waiting in the queue. My verification took 21 days before approval, then another 5 days for deposit.

the irs is a total joke 🤡 i verified my identity TWO MONTHS AGO and still have that same message. they're holding our money hostage while charging us interest if we owe them. make it make sense!!!!

LMAOOO "tried calling them" YES I've called 38 times and never got through. Its IMPOSSIBLE to reach a human there.

Use claimyr.com - it's the only way I finally got through after weeks of trying. Talking to a real agent was the only thing that moved my refund forward.

my status was "received and processing" for 5 days after verification, then it changed to approved with a DDD. then got my deposit 2 days after that. everyone's timeline is different but hopefully yours moves fast!

check ur bank account too, sometimes the money shows up before the WMR updates. happened to me last year, was still showing processing when the money hit my account.

It's crazy how many people have to verify ID this year! Is it just me or is the IRS flagging way more returns than usual? I filed in early February and didn't get my refund until April 8th because of verification delays.

CosmicCruiser

They definitely are! I read somewhere that they increased verification checks by like 300% this year because of all the fraud during covid. My tax lady said almost half her clients had to verify this year.

Pro tip: The IRS2Go app updates faster than the website for a lot of people. Worth checking both!

I'm on day 67 after filing and still stuck at "received and processing" after verification. You might wanna settle in for a wait. The IRS is swamped and understaffed and it shows.

Calling the IRS is like trying to win the lottery 😭 I tried for weeks before I found out about claimyr.com which got me a callback. The agent said there was an "income verification" flag on my account that wasn't even visible on my transcript. Got my refund 3 days later!

heads up - if you claimed any credits like EITC or child tax credit, there's a mandatory holding period even after verification. those get extra scrutiny.

After ID verification last year, it took exactly 2 weeks for my status to change from "received" to "approved." Then the money hit my account 4 days later. Hope this helps give you a realistic timeline!

I used taxr.ai to interpret my transcript when I was in your exact situation last month. It was able to tell me exactly what was happening with my return based on all the codes and dates. Turns out I had a review flag that wasn't obvious but the tool caught it and gave me a realistic timeline. It was right - got my refund exactly when it predicted! https://taxr.ai

another tool to try to get our money that should just come to us automatically? why do we need special services just to decode what the IRS is doing with OUR money? 🙄

trust me, I get the frustration. I spent DAYS trying to figure out those stupid codes on my own. But honestly the tool saved me so much stress - I stopped checking WMR every 5 minutes once I knew what was actually happening and when to expect my money. The peace of mind was worth it.

FYI - If you got that message right after verification, thats a good sign your verification was successful. If verification failed, youd typically get a different message about further action required.

Check your mail too! Sometimes they send letters even when everything is fine. Mine said "we're still processing your return" but had a specific date when the review would be completed. Sure enough, I got my refund on that exact day.
