Filed my taxes in early February, return shows code 570 with no verification needed - what does this mean?
I submitted my tax return about 6 weeks ago (early February) and I'm still waiting for my refund. When I check Where's My Refund, it just says my return is still being processed. I finally figured out how to access my account transcript and I'm seeing code 570 - Return Filed Processed - Additional Account Action Pending with a date of 04-01-2025. There's no indication that I need to verify my identity or provide additional documents. My return had minimal deductions - just standard stuff, nothing complicated. Anyone else experiencing this? What does this code actually mean and how long should I expect to wait? This is really frustrating because I was counting on this money for some urgent bills.

The 570 code means there's a freeze on your account, which is preventing your refund from being issued. It's fairly common, especially during the early part of tax season. The IRS is probably reviewing something on your return, even if they haven't specifically asked you for verification yet. The date 04-01-2025 doesn't necessarily mean that's when your refund will be processed - it's more of an administrative date in their system. Do you see any other codes on your transcript? Particularly codes like 971 (Notice Issued) or 420 (Examination/Audit)? Those might give more clues about what's happening. You might also want to check if you received any correspondence from the IRS at your address. Sometimes notices get lost in the mail or delivered late. Unfortunately, early filers often face more scrutiny as the IRS implements new fraud detection measures at the beginning of tax season.

ā¢Thanks for explaining! I checked again and I do see code 971 with the same date (04-01-2025). What does that mean? I haven't received any mail from them yet.

ā¢A 971 paired with a 570 typically means they've sent or are planning to send you a notice about why your refund is delayed. Keep an eye on your mail - it could be requesting additional information or just telling you they need more time to process your return. Given the dates, you might receive something within the next week or so.

ā¢I had EXACTLY this situation last year. The notice basically just said they were holding my refund for additional review. Took about 8 more weeks before I got my money. Super frustrating but nothing actually wrong with my return.

ā¢8 MORE weeks?? Ugh that's terrible news. I wonder if there's anything I can do to speed it up.

For anyone dealing with confusing transcript codes like OP, I've been using taxr.ai to explain my transcripts and it's been a game changer. It walks you through exactly what each code means and what to expect next instead of trying to piece everything together from random forum posts. I was completely lost trying to figure out my 570/971 combo until I uploaded my transcript there. Saved me from calling the IRS and waiting on hold for hours. https://taxr.ai

ā¢Sounds interesting. How exactly does it work? Does it just read your transcript or does it do more?

ā¢It's actually pretty cool - you upload your transcript and it breaks down every code, explains what's happening with your return in plain english, and gives you a timeline prediction. It also tells you if you need to take any action or just wait. WAY better than playing detective with transcript codes yourself. I'm honestly shocked more people don't know about it.

ā¢WOW this is exactly what I needed! Just tried it and it explained my weird refund delay perfectly. The IRS website is such a maze of confusion but this made everything crystal clear. Best tax tool I've found this year hands down. šÆ

ā¢It's not free but honestly worth every penny considering how many hours of stress and confusion it saved me. Trying to decode IRS notices and transcript codes yourself is like trying to read hieroglyphics lol

After weeks of staring at my transcript with the same 570 code, I finally got fed up and found a way to actually talk to a human at the IRS. Used claimyr.com and it was life changing - they connected me with an actual IRS agent who explained everything about my return. Got a callback within a couple hours when I expected to wait days. The agent told me exactly why my refund was delayed (random review) and released it while I was on the call. Refund hit my account 2 days later. Honestly worth every penny to not spend hours on hold just to get hung up on.

ā¢How does that even work? The IRS phone system is impossible to get through.

ā¢It basically navigates the IRS phone tree for you and holds your place in line. When an agent is available, they call you back. I was skeptical but desperate after trying to call myself for 3 weeks straight with no luck. Talking to an actual agent was the only thing that finally got my refund moving.

ā¢sounds sketchy af... did you have to give them personal info or something?

ā¢No personal info needed - they just connect you directly with the IRS. You talk to the actual IRS agents yourself. It's just a way to skip the impossible phone system. My tax situation was resolved in one 15 minute call after weeks of getting nowhere.

ā¢this right here is the real answer. i wasted so much time trying to reach the IRS myself. claimyr got me through in under 2 hours when I'd been trying for weeks. IRS agent told me my return was just sitting there waiting for someone to hit a button š¤¦āāļø

570 usually means theres a problem. I had this last year and it turned out I had entered my W2 info wrong. check all your numbers carefully, especially if you manually entered anything. The IRS is weird with how they comunicate issues.

yeah i filed early february too. got 570/971 combo like you. ended up just being a random review. took 45 days total but they never actually contacted me about anything. refund just randomly showed up š¤”š¤” IRS doing what they do best - wasting everyone's time

ā¢45 days?? That's insane! Did you call them or do anything to speed it up?

Dylan Cooper
ā¢nope. calling is useless - you'll sit on hold for 3 hours just to have someone tell you to wait. that's if you even get through at all. if your return is just under review, there's literally nothing they can do to speed it up anyway

ā¢This isn't entirely true. I called and got an agent who found a specific issue with my return. She fixed it while I was on the phone and my refund was released within 48 hours. Sometimes calling IS worth it if you can actually get through.

If your return shows code 570 without any explanation, there's probably some "random review" happening. The fact you filed in February and are seeing this now in March is actually a good sign - they usually resolve these within 8-10 weeks of filing. Check your transcript weekly for updates, especially new codes appearing. Here's what I've learned from dealing with these situations for years: ⢠The "as of" date on transcripts often doesn't mean anything ⢠A 570 followed by a 971 typically means they're sending a letter ⢠If you see code 420, that's an audit (but you don't have this) ⢠If you see code 846, that's your refund being issued If you don't see movement after another 2-3 weeks, you have a few options: 1. Call the IRS directly (but prepare for hours on hold) 2. Contact your local Taxpayer Advocate Service 3. Reach out to your congressional representative 4. Use a service like claimyr.com to connect with an IRS agent without the hold time 5. Use taxr.ai to analyze your transcript for issues you might have missed Good luck! The system is frustrating but most of these early filing delays do resolve eventually.

ā¢Thank you so much for all this detail! I think I'll give it another 2 weeks and then try one of these options if nothing changes.

ā¢The Taxpayer Advocate Service is useless right now - they're so backlogged they're only taking hardship cases. Congressional rep is hit or miss depending on your district. Honestly either call yourself or use a service, but don't expect TAS to help with normal processing delays.

don't stress, mine had 570 code for like 6 weeks then suddenly changed to 846 (refund issued) without any communication from IRS. no idea what they were doing all that time but money finally showed up š

Fun fact: the IRS received over $80 billion in additional funding from the Inflation Reduction Act BUT they're still using COBOL systems from the 1960s to process returns. No wonder everything is a mess. Pretty sure they're using dial-up internet and fax machines back there too. š¤£

ā¢I work in IT and can confirm the IRS systems are actually insane. They have databases that can't even communicate with each other. My friend who works there says they literally print some returns out on paper just to scan them back in to a different system. š

My personal experience with the 570 code - ended up being because I claimed my son as a dependent but his mom also claimed him (we're divorced). IRS flagged both returns. Had to prove I had him more than 50% of the year. Check if there could be any dependent issues on your return.

I always tell people NOT to file in January/February. The early batches get more scrutiny from the IRS and they're testing their fraud detection systems. I intentionally wait until March to file every year and almost always get my refund within 2 weeks. Early filers are basically beta testers for the IRS systems lol.

I'm dealing with the exact same situation right now - filed in early February, got the 570/971 combo on my transcript with an April date, and still waiting. It's incredibly frustrating when you're counting on that money for bills. From what I'm reading here, it sounds like this is unfortunately pretty common for early filers. The IRS seems to put more scrutiny on returns filed in January/February while they're testing their fraud detection systems. I'm going to give it another week or two before trying to call them directly or using one of those callback services people mentioned. At least it's reassuring to know I'm not alone in this mess - misery loves company I guess! Hang in there Carmen, sounds like most people eventually get their refunds even if it takes way longer than it should.

ā¢I'm in the same boat! Filed February 3rd and have been stuck with the 570 code for weeks now. It's so stressful when you need that refund for urgent expenses. What's really frustrating is how unclear the IRS communication is - like why can't they just tell us plainly what's happening instead of these cryptic codes? I've been checking my transcript obsessively but nothing changes. Thanks for the solidarity - it does help to know we're not the only ones going through this waiting game!

I'm going through the exact same thing right now! Filed February 8th, got the 570 code with a 04-01-2025 date, and I'm going crazy waiting. What's really getting to me is that I specifically chose direct deposit thinking it would be faster, but here I am almost 7 weeks later with nothing. I've been checking my transcript daily (probably not healthy lol) and the "as of" date keeps updating but the codes stay the same. No 971 code yet though, so maybe that's a good sign? The worst part is I budgeted around getting this refund by mid-March for some car repairs that I really can't put off much longer. It's so frustrating that they make this process so opaque - like just tell us what's going on instead of making us decode these random numbers! Reading through everyone's experiences here is both reassuring and terrifying. Sounds like some people wait 8+ weeks while others get lucky and it resolves quickly. I think I'm going to try that claimyr service someone mentioned if nothing changes in the next week. At this point I just want to talk to a human who can tell me SOMETHING about what's actually happening with my return. Thanks for posting this Carmen - at least we know we're not alone in this mess!
