Filed 2022 Taxes with Refund Freeze Since Feb 2024, Multiple Amended Returns I Didn't File, and $9,897 Balance Showing - What To Do?

I filed my 2022 taxes in March 2023 and still no refund. I'm getting seriously concerned about my situation. I checked my transcript today and it's showing a bunch of confusing entries that I don't understand. My transcript shows an account balance of -$10,897.00 as of Nov. 19, 2024, but I still haven't received anything. The information from my return shows I filed as Head of Household with 4 exemptions. My adjusted gross income was $19,949.00, taxable income $0.00, and tax per return $479.00. Looking at the transaction section, it shows: - Tax return filed on 03-26-2024 for $479.00 (code 150) - Refund freeze on 02-09-2024 (code 810) - Credit to my account on 04-16-2024 for -$3,881.00 (code 766) - Another credit on 04-16-2024 for -$10,413.00 (code 766) - Earned income credit on 04-16-2024 for -$8,258.00 (code 768) Then there are entries about amended returns: - "Amended tax return or claim forwarded for processing" on 05-02-2024 (code 971) - "Amended return filed" on 05-02-2024 (code 977) - Another "Amended tax return or claim forwarded for processing" on 09-10-2024 (code 971) - Another "Amended return filed" on 09-10-2024 (code 977) Then more recent activity: - Additional tax assessed on 11-12-2024 for $0.00 (code 290) - "Reduced or removed credit to your account" on 04-16-2024 for $514.00 (code 767) - Earned income credit on 04-16-2024 for -$172.00 (code 764) - "Reduced or removed credit to your account" on 04-16-2024 for $10,413.00 (code 767) - "Reduced or removed prior tax assessed" on 11-19-2024 for -$479.00 (code 291) - "Notice issued" on 11-19-2024 (code 971) I've checked Where's My Refund multiple times, but it just says "still processing." I've called the IRS repeatedly but can't get through to a human. I don't understand what all these codes mean or why there's a refund freeze. Why would they issue a notice on 11-19-2024? I haven't received anything in the mail. What should I do about this? Why is there a freeze on my refund? And what's with all these amended returns when I didn't file any amendments?

As a tax professional, I'd recommend pulling your transcript and checking for any codes that might indicate why there's a delay. Common hold-ups include verification of income, identity verification, or math errors. Have you checked if you received any IRS letters in the mail?

No letters at all thats whats driving me crazy! How do I even know if something is wrong?

Without any letters, it could be stuck in the general processing backlog. But codes on your transcript would tell us more about what's happening behind the scenes.

Hey guys! I struggled with this same issue until I found taxr.ai - it's this AI tool that analyzes your transcript and tells you exactly what's going on and when to expect your refund. It costs $1 but saved me weeks of stress. Check it out: https://taxr.ai

How exactly does it work? Does it just read the transcript or what?
