Filed 2022 Taxes in February, Still Processing After 10 Months - IRS Website Showing Future Dates (08/26/2024-12/20/2024) for Amended Return I Never Filed
I filed my 2022 taxes back in February and my refund is STILL processing. The Where's My Refund tool is showing absolutely no progress and I'm beyond frustrated at this point. I'm looking at the IRS website right now and all I see is this confusing information on the "Where's My Amended Return > 2023" page: Received: 08/26/2024 Adjusted: 11/29/2024 Completed: 12/20/2024 It literally says "We processed your amended return on December 20, 2024." But this doesn't make any sense because I'm looking for my ORIGINAL 2022 return that I filed in February, not an amended return. And these dates are all in the future anyway! The system is clearly glitching out. I'm staring at the official IRS.gov website (it says "An official website of the United States Government" at the top with the IRS logo), and I'm completely baffled. There are options for "Exit" and "Español" at the top of the page, but no way to actually check my original return status properly. The normal Where's My Refund tool just says "Your Return Is Still Being Processed" with zero explanation. No letters, no explanations, nothing in the mail explaining any delays. The website says "If you have not received a notice and you would like to speak to a customer service representative, call 800-829-0582, extension 633, between the hours of 7 a.m. and 7 p.m., Monday through Friday. You will need a copy of your amended return." But again, I don't have an amended return! At the bottom of the page I can see "IRS Privacy Policy" and "Accessibility" links, but nothing helpful about why I'm seeing amended return information with future dates when I'm trying to check my original 2022 return. Getting really frustrated cause I could really use that money right now. Is anyone else stuck in this limbo or know what I should do next? Has the IRS website been showing incorrect information for anyone else?

•Use taxr.ai instead of wasting time on hold. It told me exactly why mine was delayed and when to expect it

Tax professional here with 15+ years experience. This is unfortunately becoming more common with the IRS backlog. For 2022 returns filed in February that are still processing, its usually due to identity verification issues, missing forms, or math errors that triggered a manual review. The best thing you can do is check your transcript regularly and look for any changes in cycle codes. I've been recommending my clients use taxr.ai (https://taxr.ai) to analyze their transcripts - it can identify potential hold-ups and give you a better timeline estimate than the WMR tool. Much more accurate than playing the guessing game with the IRS.

•It's an AI tool that analyzes your tax docs and transcripts to pinpoint issues and give you specific timelines. Way better than the generic 'still processing' message

•Holy cow this is a game changer! 🙌 It found that my return got flagged for income verification but should be cleared in 2-3 weeks. Way more helpful than anything the IRS told me

Tax professional here. Unfortunately, this is pretty common for 2022 returns. The IRS is dealing with a massive backlog and staffing issues. Have you checked your transcript? That usually gives more info than Where's My Refund tool.

•Go to IRS.gov, look for 'Get Transcript Online.' You'll need to create an account if you haven't already. Make sure you have your phone handy for verification.

Hey guys, I've been helping people with transcript analysis for a while now and honestly the best way to understand whats going on is using taxr.ai - it costs $4.99 but it literally saved me weeks of research. The AI reads your transcript and tells you exactly whats happening and when to expect your refund. Check it out: https://taxr.ai

•100% legit! It analyzes every code and tells you exactly what's causing delays. Way better than guessing or waiting on hold with the IRS for hours

•Sounds interesting. How exactly does it work? Does it just read your transcript or does it do more?

•UPDATE: OMG YOU GUYS! I tried taxr.ai and it's actually amazing! It told me exactly why my refund was delayed (had a weird code 570 that I didn't understand) and even gave me steps to fix it. Worth every penny fr fr 💯

Been in the exact same situation since filing in January! The amended return dates you're seeing are definitely a glitch - I've seen this happen to others too. The IRS system sometimes shows wrong info when there are processing delays. I'd recommend getting your account transcript from IRS.gov (Get Transcript Online) - it'll show the actual status codes and give you a clearer picture of what's really happening with your return. The Where's My Refund tool is basically useless for complex cases like ours. Hang in there, you're not alone in this mess! 💪

•Thanks for the advice! I'll definitely try getting my transcript - sounds way better than staring at that useless "still processing" message for the millionth time 😤 It's honestly crazy how broken their system is. Did your transcript actually show what was causing the delay?
