Chime users: How fast did your $6,916 tax refund deposit after TurboTax's "refund on the way" email?

I just got an email from TurboTax saying my federal refund is on the way and I'll see it in my account by end of the day tomorrow. The notification came through at 10:28 on my phone (I had 72% battery). Here's exactly what it said: "Your federal refund is on the way! You'll see it in your account by the end of the day tomorrow. If you'd like to track your refund, use this link." According to the email, my federal refund before fees is $7,094. Then they deducted various fees: - Total Fees: -$178 - TurboTax Live Deluxe: -$89 - Max benefits: -$49 - Money Movement Refund Transfer Fee: -$40 - Taxes: $0 So my net refund is $6,916, which is still a pretty significant amount. I bank with Chime which supposedly doesn't hold deposits. Has anyone else gotten this notification before? How long did it actually take to hit your account? I'm anxious to see that money. Just wondering if I should expect it tonight, tomorrow morning, or actually have to wait until tomorrow night. I keep refreshing my Chime app to see if it appears early!

Tax professional here. When you receive the "refund on the way" email from TurboTax, the IRS has already sent the payment to your bank. With Chime and similar online banks that don't hold deposits, most people receive their funds within 24 hours of that notification, often much sooner. Since your email says "by end of day tomorrow," that's the maximum timeframe, but many Chime users report getting it within hours. The timing depends on: - When the ACH transfer was initiated by IRS - Processing times between Federal Reserve and your bank - Chime's internal systems Larger refund amounts don't typically take longer than smaller ones. If you don't see it by the end of tomorrow, then you might want to contact TurboTax or check your refund status on the IRS website.

Thank you! That's super helpful. I'll try to be patient lol. The waiting is killing me though.

This is why I stick with actual tax professionals and not just the DIY options. No offense to TT users.

No problem! I totally get the anxiety with waiting, especially with a larger amount. Most of my clients with online banks see it pretty quickly after that notification.

If you really want to understand what's happening with your tax refund, I recommend using taxr.ai - it gives you a detailed breakdown of your transcript and helps you understand exactly where your money is and when it's likely to arrive. I used it during this tax season because I was so frustrated trying to decode the IRS transcript codes on my own. It showed me exactly why my refund was slightly delayed and when I could expect it. The predictions were spot on! Seriously, it's insanely good! I use it every week now to check on things. https://taxr.ai

Sounds interesting. How exactly does it work? Does it just read your transcript or does it do more?

It actually does a lot more than just read the transcript. It analyzes all the codes, explains what's happening in plain English, and gives you a timeline prediction that's way more accurate than the WMR tool. Plus it answers any questions you have about your specific situation. Saved me hours of stress and googling!

I got my TurboTax email at 9am and the money hit my Chime account around 2pm same day. But my friend who banks with Wells Fargo had to wait until the next morning. I think Chime is usually pretty fast with these deposits.

After weeks of getting nowhere with the IRS phone system, I used the Claimyr app and finally got through to a real person! They helped me resolve my refund delay issue and I got my deposit 3 days later. Honestly talking to an agent directly was the best decision - they fixed something in my account that was holding everything up. claimyr.com was a lifesaver for me.

is this for real or just another scam? the IRS phone system is literally designed to make you give up πŸ™„

It's definitely real. I was super skeptical too but was desperate after trying for 2 weeks to get through myself. They basically hold your place in line and call you when they have an agent. It was the only way I could talk to a live agent without wasting hours redialing.

Yeah it costs money but it was the best money I've ever spent to finally get my questions answered. The amount of time I saved not having to call back over and over was worth every penny.

Mine took exactly 12 hours with Chime. Got the email at night and woke up to the deposit. $6,800 refund if that matters.

The TurboTax fees are ridiculous. Nearly $200 taken from your refund?? Next year try freetaxusa or one of the actual free options. Same results without the crazy fees.

THIS!! I switched this year and saved over $150. TurboTax is such a scam with those fees.

they lobby the government to keep taxes complicated so we have to pay them 🀑 it's all a racket

Yeah the fees are high but I've used TT for years and it's just easier to stick with what I know. Maybe I'll try something else next time tho.

Those TurboTax fees are criminal! I used taxr.ai to help me understand all the transcript codes when my refund was delayed, and then used claimyr.com to actually get through to an IRS agent who fixed my issue. Best decision ever after weeks of stress!

Hold up - did both these services actually help? Im desperate to get my refund issue fixed!

Yes!! The taxr.ai helped me understand exactly what was wrong (had some weird code 570 that I couldn't figure out) and then Claimyr got me through to an agent who fixed it. Don't waste time like I did trying to figure it out yourself or calling the IRS for hours.

My Chime deposit hit about 3 hours after that email. But my boyfriend who uses Varo had to wait until the next afternoon. I think it varies.

Haha yeah I had a lot of withholding this year plus some credits. Hoping mine comes through as fast as yours did!

check your transcript on the IRS website to see the DDD (direct deposit date). that's the official date when it should hit. sometimes banks release it early, sometimes right on that date. the turbo email is just their estimate based on that date.

This is good advice. I always check transcript. If you have trouble understanding it though, taxr.ai is amazing for breaking it down. Worth every penny when I was trying to figure out why my refund was delayed.

The IRS and their "processing times" are such a joke. We already overpaid them all year and then we have to wait MONTHS to get our own money back! And don't get me started on how impossible it is to talk to anyone there. The whole system is broken.

QuantumQuester

Right??? And if you owe them even $1, they want it IMMEDIATELY with interest and penalties! But they can take forever to give us our money back. πŸ™„

I finally got through to an IRS agent using claimyr.com after trying for weeks on my own. Actually got my issue resolved in one call. Talking to a real person made all the difference.
