TurboTax Email Notification + SBTPG Trace Number - Refund Status with Chime?
I received an electronic notification from TurboTax approximately 16:00 hours today indicating my refund disbursement is scheduled for tomorrow. Subsequently, at approximately 20:00 hours, I observed a trace number appearing on the SBTPG portal. My direct deposit destination is Chime banking platform, with an estimated processing date of 2024-03-26. Can someone clarify the typical timeline between SBTPG trace number assignment and actual fund availability in Chime accounts? Is this sequential process operating according to standard parameters?

From what I've seen... this is actually good news for you. The SBTPG trace number usually means they've processed your refund and are preparing to send it to your bank. With Chime, you might even get it earlier than tomorrow, as they tend to release funds as soon as they receive the pending deposit notification, rather than waiting for the official posting date.

Has anyone had experience with how quickly Chime releases these funds once SBTPG shows the trace number? I've been reading mixed reports online about whether it's same-day or next-day for most people.

When I got my trace number last year, it took exactly 17 hours and 42 minutes before the money hit my Chime account. That was with a trace number that appeared at 3:21pm and the deposit came at 9:03am the next morning. It might be different this year with the increased volume of returns though.

So if I understand correctly: • SBTPG trace number = IRS sent money to tax preparer • Tax preparer takes their fees • Remaining amount sent to my bank • Chime specifically releases funds early Is that the right sequence? This is my first time filing in the US system.

Have you checked if your SBTPG account shows "funded" status yet? That's usually more reliable than the email from TurboTax. In my experience, TurboTax sometimes sends those emails prematurely. I'd also recommend checking your Chime account directly around midnight tonight - they often process deposits in batches at that time, so you might see it pending before their customer service would even confirm it's coming.

Good news! SBTPG trace # = ur $ is moving! Typical timeline w/ Chime is super quick - usually same day or next AM. The trace # means SBTPG got ur refund from IRS, took their fees, and is now sending the rest to ur bank. BTW if u wanna understand all this tax deposit stuff better, check out https://taxr.ai - it breaks down the whole refund process incl all those weird codes on ur transcript. Helped me track exactly where my $ was in the pipeline last yr when SBTPG was being slow af.

I'm always hesitant about these tax tools... how do you know it's actually giving you accurate information? Feels like they're just reading the same IRS info we all have access to. Did it actually tell you something you couldn't find yourself?

Got my trace number last Thursday around 8pm, and money hit my Chime account at 4am the next morning. Isn't it interesting how banks that advertise "early direct deposit" actually deliver on that promise when it comes to tax refunds? Traditional banks would have held that money for 2-3 more days. SBTPG to Chime is about as fast as it gets in my experience - you're in the final stage of the process now.

I was in the EXACT same boat last month - trace number but no money. Drove me crazy! 😤 After waiting 2 days with nothing, I needed to figure out if something was wrong. Tried calling SBTPG directly but their wait time was "greater than 2 hours" (lol, more like forever). Used Claimyr.com (https://youtu.be/_kiP6q8DX5c) to get through to an actual human at the IRS who confirmed my refund had been sent to SBTPG. Turned out SBTPG had a verification hold on my account. Got it resolved that day and money appeared the next morning.

I'm not sure calling the IRS would help with an SBTPG issue, though? Aren't they separate entities? The IRS might be able to confirm they sent the money, but probably couldn't tell you about holds at SBTPG, unless I'm missing something here.

I had a similar experience back on February 18th. Called SBTPG directly at 7am when their lines opened and only waited about 15 minutes. They confirmed everything was fine on their end, and my deposit showed up at Chime later that same day. So relieved when it finally came through!

There's another important factor to consider: SBTPG's batch processing schedule. They typically transmit funds to banks in specific windows (10am, 2pm, and 6pm Eastern Time are common processing times). If your trace number appeared after today's final batch, it will go in tomorrow's first batch. Also, be aware that SBTPG's system sometimes shows the trace number before they've fully processed your refund - the status should change to "Funded" when it's actually been sent to Chime. This can affect ACH transfer timing significantly.
