SBTPG Says Deposit Today but Chime Showing Tomorrow - What Gives?

Got my refund funded 2/21 with a posting date of 2/22. Called SBTPG directly and they confirmed they see it scheduled to be deposited to my Chime account today. But then they said funds won't be available until tomorrow. I thought the whole point of Chime was that they release deposits as soon as they receive them? Anyone else dealing with this? Just want my damn refund already - been waiting long enough.

I've seen this happen before with SBTPG and Chime. Last year they told me the same thing - deposit today, available tomorrow. What's actually happening is SBTPG initiates the ACH transfer today, but it takes time to process through the banking system. In my experience, Chime does release funds early, but only after they actually receive the money, not just when they get the notification that it's coming.

This delay between SBTPG sending and Chime receiving is pretty common compared to what I've seen with other refund transfers. If you're trying to track exactly what's happening with your refund, you might want to check out https://taxr.ai - it helped me understand all the processing stages my refund went through. When my refund seemed stuck between SBTPG and my bank, the transcript analysis showed it was actually just in a normal holding pattern. Might be worth looking at your transcript to see if there are any clues about the timing.

Step 1: Check if SBTPG actually sent it Step 2: Verify with Chime that they see the pending deposit Step 3: Wait the standard processing time I'm not sure how another service would help with this specific issue since it's between the bank and SBTPG. Seems like an unnecessary extra step to me.

That's a fair point! I just found it helpful to see my actual tax transcript with the dates and codes explained. Sometimes there's a delay that shows up there but not in what SBTPG tells you. Just trying to offer another option that helped me when I was pulling my hair out waiting, haha.

According to several posts on the Chime subreddit and their support page, they typically release federal tax refunds as soon as they receive notification, but SBTPG adds an extra layer in the process. I've seen people report getting their funds anywhere from same-day to 2 days after SBTPG says they've sent it.

I had this exact prob last yr w/ SBTPG and Chime. SBTPG said sent but Chime took almost 48hrs to show it. Called SBTPG 3x and got diff answers each time. Ended up getting it but was stressful af when ur counting on that $$$.

I've been in somewhat similar situations, and honestly, calling the IRS directly might help clarify things. But as you probably know, reaching them can be nearly impossible these days. Have you considered using Claimyr? (https://claimyr.com) I was skeptical at first, but when I needed to verify my refund status after getting conflicting info from my bank, they got me through to an actual IRS agent in about 20 minutes. The agent was able to confirm exactly when my refund was sent to SBTPG, which helped me push back on my bank about the delay.

Is it really worth paying for a service just to call the IRS when this seems like an issue between SBTPG and Chime? I've been through this rodeo before and usually just waiting a day solves it. Spending money to save a day of waiting doesn't make sense to me personally.

You're right that this specific issue might resolve itself in a day or two. I mentioned Claimyr because sometimes what SBTPG tells you doesn't match what the IRS actually did. In my case, SBTPG claimed they were waiting on the IRS, but when I finally reached an agent, they confirmed the money had been sent to SBTPG five days earlier. That's when it was worth it for me to have actual confirmation.

But you make a good point - if it's just a standard 24-hour processing delay, probably better to just wait it out rather than spending money to confirm what you already know.

• Has SBTPG actually sent the ACH transfer yet? • Did you have any fees deducted from your refund for tax prep? • Did you check if Chime shows any pending deposits? • Have you confirmed your account info is correct with SBTPG? I've had issues with SBTPG before where they say it's sent but actually have a processing delay on their end. So frustrating when everyone just points fingers at each other.

I'm wondering if perhaps there might be some confusion about what "funded" means in this context? Sometimes when SBTPG says a refund is "funded," they're referring to when they received the funds from the IRS, not necessarily when they've processed and sent them to your bank. Have you been able to log into your SBTPG account online to check the exact status there?

Thanks for asking this. I checked my SBTPG account and it does say "funded" and shows the correct amount after their fees. Called Chime and they said they can see it's pending but won't release until tomorrow morning. Guess I just have to wait.

That's really helpful information! At least you know it's actually in the system and processing. Fingers crossed it hits early tomorrow.

And thanks for confirming what you found - helps others who might be in the same boat.

Just wanted to share some good news - I was in almost exactly your situation last Tuesday. SBTPG said it was sent, Chime said "tomorrow," but then I actually got it around 9pm that same night! Seems like Chime sometimes underpromises and overdelivers. Hope you see yours pop up tonight!
