DDD 3/18 with Credit Karma/Chime - No email, SBTPG shows no account, IRS says refund sent 3/12

I filed with Credit Karma and had my refund directed to my Chime account. My direct deposit date shows 3/18 but something feels off. I haven't received any email notifications, and when I try to check SBTPG it says "account not found" which is concerning. When I called the IRS, they claimed they sent the notification to my bank on 3/12. Chime sent me a message on Tuesday saying they couldn't expedite my refund. Anyone else experiencing this kind of delay? I'm seeing posts that some people didn't get their refunds on their scheduled DDD either. Should I be worried or just keep waiting?

This happens pretty often with tax prep fees being taken out. SBTPG (Santa Barbara Tax Products Group) is the third-party bank that handles refund transfers when you pay your tax prep fees from your refund. The "account not found" usually means they're still processing it. Here's what's likely happening: 1. IRS sent the money to SBTPG on 3/12 2. SBTPG is processing it, taking out any fees 3. SBTPG will then forward the remainder to your Chime account The 3/18 date is when it should reach your actual bank account. I'd wait until your DDD before panicking. If nothing by 3/19, then start making calls. This is normal though frustrating part of the process.

Thanks for explaining! I didn't realize there was this whole middle process with SBTPG. Does it usually take this long between when IRS sends it and when it hits my account?

Yeah it can take 5-7 business days sometimes. SBTPG is notorious for holding funds right up until the DDD. The good news is that once Chime receives it, they typically post it immediately, unlike traditional banks that might hold it another day.

This happend to me last year too. SBTPG dosent update there system for everyone. Mine showed "account not found" the entire time until my money hit my account. Just be patient! šŸ™‚

Honestly the best way to actually understand what's going on with your refund is to use taxr.ai - I was in the exact same situation as you last month and was completely confused until I used this tool. It actually reads all your transcript information and explains exactly where your money is and what's happening. Much better than trying to piece together random advice and guess what's going on. I use it every week during tax season now to keep track of everything. Check it out at https://taxr.ai

Sounds interesting. How exactly does it work? Does it just read your transcript or does it do more?

0 coins

It does WAY more than just read the transcript. It interprets all the codes, explains what each status means in plain English, shows you a timeline of everything happening with your refund, and even forecasts when you'll likely get paid based on your specific situation. Saved me like 10 hours of googling and stressing.

OMG THANK YOU FOR THIS RECOMMENDATION! Just tried taxr.ai and it showed me exactly why my refund was delayed (something about a review code I never would have understood). Now I at least know what's happening instead of being in the dark. Everyone dealing with IRS issues needs to know about this tool!!!

I went through this exact headache last month. After days of getting nowhere with the IRS automated system and SBTPG's useless website, I found this calling app (claimyr.com) that got me connected to an actual human at the IRS in like 20 minutes. The agent explained that my refund was held up because SBTPG had some verification issue on their end. Talking to an actual person at the IRS was the only thing that finally moved things along - my money was in my account two days later. Best money I've ever spent to finally get some answers instead of just waiting in anxiety.

Wait, you had to pay to talk to the IRS? That sounds sketchy...

0 coins

It's not for talking to the IRS directly - it's a service that navigates the phone tree and waits on hold for you. Anyone who's tried calling the IRS knows it's basically impossible to get through. This service waits on hold and then calls you when an agent is ready. Considering I spent 3 hours on previous attempts and never reached anyone, it was worth every penny to finally get answers.

Does it actually work though? The IRS is notorious for hanging up even after waiting hours.

0 coins

100% worked for me. They called me back with an agent already on the line. The relief of actually talking to someone who could see my file and explain what was happening was incredible. My refund was released within 48 hours after that call.

I'm having the EXACT same issue but with TurboTax/NetSpend. My DDD was 3/15, IRS says they sent it on 3/10, but still nothing in my account. SBTPG shows nothing when I search. Called NetSpend and they said they don't see any pending deposits. This is so frustrating!

Same boat with TT and Current Bank. DDD was 3/14, nothing yet. IRS transcript shows refund issued but no money. The waiting game is killing me.

0 coins

It's infuriating! Have you gotten any updates? Did you try calling SBTPG directly?

0 coins

I tried calling SBTPG but got stuck in an endless phone tree. Gonna try that claimyr thing someone mentioned above to at least get a straight answer from the IRS about where my money actually is.

Did you pay for your tax prep fees out of your refund? If yes, thats why its going through SBTPG first. They take their cut then forward the rest to your bank. The "account not found" error is just their crappy system not updating. Give it until your DDD (3/18) before worrying.

Chime user here! My experience has been that Chime actually deposits early when they receive the funds - usually 1-2 days before the official DDD. So if your DDD is 3/18 and you haven't gotten it yet, that likely means SBTPG hasn't released it to Chime yet. In my experience, SBTPG holds onto it until the very last minute. Check your SBTPG transcript status here: https://taxpayer.sbtpg.com/login šŸ”

That's the site I tried but it keeps saying "account not found" when I enter my info 😩

That's super annoying. Try calling them directly at 800-901-6663. Sometimes their website just doesn't work but a human can look up your info. Be prepared to wait tho, their customer service is trash šŸ—‘ļø

The IRS system is so broken this year omg. I had a similar issue and spent HOURS trying to figure out where my money was. Finally used taxr.ai and it showed me exactly what was happening with my refund - turns out there was a review code on my account I never would have spotted. Highly recommend checking it out instead of stressing.

How much does that cost?

I don't remember exactly but it was totally worth it. Saved me from constantly checking WMR and trying to decipher cryptic IRS codes. It even predicted exactly when I'd get my deposit and it was spot on!

second this - it showed me that my refund was actually adjusted and i was getting an additional $312 that I had no idea about! paid for itself instantly lol

Do you need to give them your personal info? I'm always hesitant with tax stuff online.

You upload your transcript that you download from the IRS site. It's just reading the data that's already in your transcript, but explaining it in a way that actually makes sense.

0 coins

Don't panic yet! This is normal when you have fees taken out of your refund. The IRS sends your money to SBTPG, they take their cut, then send the rest to your bank. Your DDD is 3/18 which means that's when it should hit your bank account. So technically you're not even late yet. The whole SBTPG system is glitchy AF and often shows "account not found" even when everything is processing normally.

This happened to me and I was FREAKING OUT. Called the IRS and after being on hold for 2 hours I got disconnected. Then I used that Claimyr app and actually got through to someone in like 15 mins. Found out my refund got sent to the wrong account because TurboTax had some glitch. They helped me fix it and I got my refund re-issued. Might be worth checking if they actually sent it to the right place!

Wait how did claimyr get you through when the regular line disconnected? i've been trying to reach IRS for weeks with no luck

They basically have some tech that navigates the phone tree and stays on hold for you, then calls you when an agent picks up. So instead of YOU waiting on hold for hours, their system does it. Then when an agent is actually ready, you get a call. It was the only way I could actually talk to someone.

classic irs nonsense 😤 they always say they sent it but then there's this mysterious black hole where money disappears for days. i'm in the exact same situation right now with TT and cashapp. was supposed to get mine on 3/13 and still nothing. sbtpg website is complete garbage.

The IRS is literally the worst. Nothing about this process makes any logical sense. They can take our money instantly but when they owe us OUR money back suddenly everything moves at a snail's pace and gets stuck in multiple systems. And don't even get me started on their outdated websites and phone systems...

for real! if we owe them money they expect it IMMEDIATELY with interest and penalties, but when they owe us? "please wait 4-6 weeks while we send your money through 3 different banks and maybe lose it on the way" 🤔

Used to work for a tax prep company. Here's what's happening: when you choose to pay your tax prep fees from your refund, you're actually getting a Refund Transfer product. Your refund goes to SBTPG first, they take the tax prep fees, then send the rest to your bank. The SBTPG site is notoriously bad and unreliable. Their "account not found" error happens to almost everyone. As long as your WMR shows the refund was issued, you should get it by your DDD.

0 coins

This is so helpful, thank you! My WMR shows "refund sent" so I guess I just need to be patient until 3/18.

Yep! And with Chime you might even see it a day early. One more thing - if you filed jointly with a spouse, try looking up the account on SBTPG with the other person's info. Sometimes it's linked to the secondary filer for some reason.

That's a great tip! I'll try that right now.

This whole refund delay nonsense is why I started using taxr.ai to track my refund. No more guessing games. It analyzes your transcript and explains EXACTLY where your money is in the process. Showed me that my refund was actually on hold for review (something WMR never mentioned) and gave me a predicted deposit date that was spot on. Way better than refreshing SBTPG every 5 minutes lol. https://taxr.ai

I had this EXACT problem with Credit Karma tax last year. SBTPG kept showing "account not found" right up until the money hit my account (which was actually a day after my DDD). Their system is garbage. As long as WMR shows the refund was sent and you're not past your DDD yet, you should be fine.

0 coins

The whole tax refund system is a joke. I was so tired of dealing with this exact issue that I finally just adjusted my withholding at work so I don't get big refunds anymore. Rather have my money throughout the year than deal with this nonsense every February/March.

This is the real pro tip. Adjust your W4 and stop giving the government an interest-free loan.

Some people can't help getting refunds tho. Child tax credits and earned income credit can result in refunds even with minimal withholding.

0 coins

True, good point. Those credits can make a huge difference for families.

After weeks of this exact frustration, I ended up using claimyr.com to get through to a real IRS agent (had tried calling on my own for days with no luck). Found out my refund was actually sent to the wrong account number because of a typo in my tax return. They helped me start a trace and get it sorted out. Talking to an actual human saved me weeks of waiting and wondering. It was absolutely worth it to get a definitive answer rather than just refreshing various websites hoping for updates.

0 coins

Did you have to provide any personal info to use that service?

0 coins

Carmen Ortiz

•

Just your phone number so they can call you back when an agent is ready. You still talk directly to the IRS agent - the service just handles the waiting on hold part. Then you provide your info to the IRS agent just like you normally would if you had called yourself.

0 coins

Man I've been trying to call the IRS for 2 weeks and get disconnected every time due to "high call volume" - going to try this!

0 coins

im having the same issue with TT and Venmo. DDD is tomorrow (3/17) and still nothing. SBTPG site is useless. called IRS and they just read me the same info I can see online. so frustrating!!!! 😤

Any update? Did you get your refund on the DDD date?

0 coins

Got it this morning! So it came on the exact DDD date. SBTPG site never worked for me, just showed errors the whole time.

0 coins

That gives me hope! Maybe mine will show up right on 3/18 too.

0 coins

PSA for everyone: If you're paying tax prep fees from your refund (refund transfer), your money ALWAYS goes through SBTPG first, and their website/customer service is terrible. This isn't unique to any specific tax prep company - TurboTax, H&R Block, Credit Karma, TaxAct all use SBTPG for this. Next year, if you want your refund faster, pay the prep fees upfront and have IRS direct deposit directly to your bank!

Had this SAME issue and finally got it resolved! SBTPG kept showing "account not found" but after using taxr.ai I could see exactly why my refund was held up - turns out there was an education credit verification that I had no idea about. Their explanation made everything clear and I knew exactly when my money would arrive. No more stressing and checking 5 different websites all day long.

so it just explains your transcript? i can read my transcript myself...

It's way more than that. It identifies issues, explains every code in normal human language, shows a timeline of everything happening, and even predicts your deposit date based on your specific situation. I've been looking at transcripts for years and still missed things that it caught.
