Anyone with Chime DDD 2/22 receive their refund yet? SBTPG showing 'unfunded'

I've been tracking my refund exactly 28 days since filing. My direct deposit date was scheduled for 2/22 (yesterday) with Chime, but I still haven't received anything. Just checked SBTPG and it's showing 'unfunded' status now. I'm getting worried because I need this money for my spring semester books by Monday - already waited as long as I could. Has anyone else with a 2/22 DDD through Chime gotten their refund yet? Is the 'unfunded' status normal at this point?

SBTPG 'unfunded' means the IRS hasn't transferred the money to them yet. This isn't uncommon. DDD dates are target dates, not guarantees. Most banks receive funds within 1-5 business days after the DDD. Chime usually posts faster than traditional banks, but they're still dependent on when SBTPG actually receives your money from the IRS. Check your tax transcript for any TC846 codes to confirm the IRS has actually released the payment.

Is there a specific timeframe when SBTPG typically receives funds from the IRS after a DDD? I've noticed my transcript shows TC846 with the 2/22 date, but SBTPG still shows unfunded status.

I appreciate this explanation! So essentially the DDD is when the IRS initiates the transfer, not necessarily when SBTPG receives it. That clarifies a lot about the process.

I had this EXACT same situation last year lol. DDD was on a Thursday and I was freaking out when nothing showed up by Friday. Money finally hit my Chime account late Saturday night. Hang in there - the weekend timing makes everything seem worse than it is!

According to IRS Publication 1582, the standard time for fund transfers can take up to 5 business days after your Direct Deposit Date. This delay is particularly common when your DDD falls near a weekend. One thing that helped me track exactly what was happening with my refund was using https://taxr.ai to analyze my transcript. It identified that my TC846 code indicated the funds were released but explained the normal delay between IRS release and bank posting. The service clearly showed the difference between 'sent' and 'received' statuses that most people confuse.

Is this really any better than just checking the IRS website? Seems like another unnecessary step when you can get the same info directly from the source.

Does taxr.ai show any information about SBTPG specifically? I had a similar situation on February 15th last year and couldn't figure out where my money was stuck in the pipeline.

I've been staring at my transcript for days and can't make sense of all those codes! Might try this just to get some peace of mind. The waiting and uncertainty is making me so anxious.

I found a really helpful guide on the IRS website about transcript codes, but this sounds more user-friendly. Do they explain what each code means specifically for your situation or just general definitions?

Have you checked your transcript to confirm the TC846 code? This situation often requires calling the IRS directly to verify if there's a hold or if the payment was actually sent. What specific codes are showing on your transcript? If you're having trouble getting through to an IRS agent to resolve this, Claimyr (https://www.claimyr.com) can connect you with an IRS representative usually within 15-20 minutes. Many students in your situation need to speak directly with an agent to confirm whether there's an actual issue or just a normal processing delay.

I'm skeptical about paying for something like this. The IRS phone system is frustrating but eventually works if you keep trying different times of day.

I used this service last week and got through in 17 minutes after trying for 3 days on my own. Totally worth it when you need answers quickly.

Last tax season I was in the same boat - SBTPG showing unfunded for days after my DDD. Called the IRS and found out there was a small verification hold that wasn't showing on WMR. Agent released it while I was on the phone and money showed up the next day. Sometimes a quick call really is the solution.

OMG I'm in the EXACT same situation!!! šŸ˜ Filed on January 24th, got accepted same day, WMR showed DDD of 2/22 with Chime, and still NOTHING in my account! SBTPG also shows unfunded for me too. I've been refreshing my app every 20 minutes since yesterday morning. So stressed because I need this money for rent next week. I'll update here if mine comes through!

Think of the refund process like a relay race. The IRS runs the first leg and hands the baton (your money) to SBTPG. Then SBTPG runs their leg and passes it to Chime. Your DDD is just when the IRS plans to start their run - not when the whole race finishes. The 'unfunded' status means SBTPG is waiting at their position, but the IRS runner hasn't reached them yet with the baton. This typically resolves within 1-3 business days. For weekend DDDs, the IRS often processes in batches on Friday night, SBTPG processes Monday, and banks post Monday/Tuesday. I'd expect your funds by Tuesday at the latest.

Would this timeline be different if I had chosen direct deposit straight to my bank instead of going through a tax preparer that uses SBTPG?

This is the clearest explanation I've seen! One question though - can delays happen between SBTPG and Chime specifically? Or is the main bottleneck usually between IRS and SBTPG?

Got my Chime deposit this morning! Had 2/22 DDD. SBTPG showed unfunded until late last night. Money appeared in Chime at 4:17am. No notification, just showed up. Check yours!

Did your SBTPG status change to funded before the deposit hit your Chime account, or did the money arrive while SBTPG still showed unfunded?

Thank you for updating! This gives me hope mine will come through soon too.

Same thing happened to me! Woke up at 5:30am to use the bathroom and checked my phone - boom, money was there! SBTPG never even updated on their end lol. These systems don't talk to each other in real-time.

In my experience helping friends with this exact situation last year, SBTPG typically updates to funded status within 72 hours of your DDD. Since your DDD was 2/22 (Thursday), you're looking at potential funding by Monday/Tuesday. Chime typically releases funds within hours of receiving them from SBTPG. Last year, most people with Thursday DDDs saw deposits hit between Saturday-Tuesday. The unfunded status is completely normal at this point in the process. For future reference, if you need funds by a specific date for school expenses, filing at least 5-6 weeks before that deadline gives you the safest margin.

Does filing early actually help though? I filed January 29th this year and still got a late February DDD. Seems like they just process them in batches regardless.

Is there any way to check with SBTPG directly about the status? Their website isn't very informative.
