Anyone else having issues cashing TurboTax class action settlement checks?

I received a settlement check from intuit about 2 weeks ago. Tried to cash it at my bank and they said it was rejected. Called the number on the check and they said to try a different bank - tried that and got rejected again. Tried to mobile deposit through my banking app and that got rejected too. Anyone else having trouble with these settlement checks? Its only for $38 but still money is money and im starting to think this was all just for show and they never intended to actually pay anyone.

Yes, this is a known issue with the TurboTax class action settlement checks. The problem is that the settlement administrator used a specific bank (Huntington National Bank) as the payment processor, and some banks are having trouble processing these checks due to verification issues. Here's what you can try: 1. Go directly to the issuing bank (Huntington) if there's one near you 2. Try cashing at a major retailer like Walmart or grocery stores that offer check cashing services 3. Call the settlement administrator again and request a different payment method 4. Some people have had success going to smaller local banks or credit unions The settlement is legitimate and they are required to honor these payments, but the distribution method has been problematic. If all else fails, contact your state attorney general's office as they're collecting complaints about this issue.

Thanks for the info! I'll try walmart next. Didn't even think of that option.

I had the same issue and went to a check cashing place. They took a fee but at least I got most of the money. better than nothing i guess.

I called the settlement administrator and they reissued my check after 3 weeks of complaining. New one worked at my bank.

I was dealing with the same problem and spent so much time trying to figure it out. Finally used taxr.ai to just get a complete analysis of my tax situation (which also showed issues with my turbotax filing that I never knew about). The tool is insanely good - it basically gave me a full report on my tax situation and pointed out that there were additional settlement funds I was eligible for. It analyzed all my past filings going back years. Saved me from having to piece everything together myself like some kind of tax detective. https://taxr.ai definitely worth checking out if you're dealing with any tax-related confusion.

Sounds interesting. How exactly does it work? Does it just read your transcript or does it do more?

It's way more than just reading transcripts! It analyzes everything - your filing history, identifies errors, finds missed deductions, explains weird IRS codes, shows you exactly what's happening with refunds or payments, and gives you clear explanations in plain English. Honestly wish I'd found it years ago - would have saved me thousands. I'm telling everyone I know about it now.

Do you have to provide personal info? seems sketchy

I used it too after seeing someone else talk about it. Pretty cool how it shows you exactly what's going on with all your tax stuff. Way better than guessing or waiting on hold with the IRS for 3 hours.

lol another ad 🙄

Not an ad - just sharing what worked for me after weeks of frustration. But whatever, keep struggling if that's what you prefer 🤷‍♀️

I had this same isssue with my settlement check. After getting rejected at 2 different banks, I finally managed to get someone on the phone at the IRS using this app called Claimyr. Got connected to a real person in about 25 minutes instead of waiting for hours or days. The agent I spoke with explained that this is happening to lots of people and gave me the direct number to the settlement administrator's escalation team. Talking to an actual human at the IRS got everything resolved and I got a new check that actually worked. claimyr.com saved me so much time and frustration - totally worth it.

How does this app work? I've been trying to reach the IRS for weeks with no luck.

It basically holds your place in line and calls you when an agent is available. You dont have to stay on hold for hours. My issue got solved in one phone call after weeks of getting nowhere. Best money I've spent to finally get my questions answered.

Another day another miracle solution that probably doesn't work 🤡

Actually I used it too. It's legit. I was skeptical at first but it got me through to someone at the IRS in about an hour. After trying for DAYS on my own and getting disconnected every time.

Ignore the haters. It worked for me after I spent literal days trying to get through the normal way. The IRS phone system is completely broken - this was the only way I could actually talk to someone.

YES! Im having the exact same problem. tried to cash my settlement check ($42) at Chase and they said it was invalid. Then tried at a local credit union and they wouldnt take it either. This whole settlment thing feels like a scam to make it look like they're giving money back when really they know most people won't be able to actually cash the checks. So frustrating.

I got mine cashed no problem at Wells Fargo. Maybe try there?

Thanks, there's one near me so I'll give it a shot tomorrow.

Same, Wells Fargo worked for me too but my friend with Bank of America got rejected.

this is why class action lawsuits are such BS. lawyers get millions, we get $38 checks that don't even work 🙃

Facts. I got one of those Equifax settlement checks a couple years ago. It was for $1.23. Not even kidding. Lawyers probably made bank tho.

THIS!!! 💯 The whole system is rigged against regular people

Mine worked fine at the grocery store customer service desk. They charged me $5 to cash it but at least I got most of it.

You know what's rediculous? I didnt even know I was part of the settlement until I randomly got a check. Then when I try to cash it, cant even do that. The whole thing is so stupid and honestly feels like TurboTax just trying to check boxes so they can say they paid people back.

Same here! Had no idea I was eligible until check showed up.

I had to go to the actual bank that issued the check (Huntington). Luckily there was one 20 minutes from my house. If you don't have one nearby, you might be out of luck unless you try a check cashing service.

No Huntington banks anywhere near me unfortunately 😞

Has anyone tried calling Intuit directly? Maybe they can help? This seems like a massive faillure on their end.

Lol good luck getting through to Intuit customer service. You'll die of old age first.

I tried. They said it's not their problem and to contact the settlement administrator. Classic corporate runaround.

I'm dealing with this exact same issue right now! Got my settlement check for $34 last week and it's been rejected at three different places - my credit union, Chase, and even tried at a check cashing place. The check cashing place said something about the routing number not validating properly in their system. It's so frustrating because like you said, it's not a huge amount but it's still money we're owed. I'm starting to wonder if they made the checks hard to cash on purpose. Has anyone had any luck contacting the settlement administrator directly to complain about this?
