I'm an accountant and see this all the time. The PATH Act (Protecting Americans from Tax Hikes) requires additional verification for returns with EITC/ACTC which is why there's that mid-February holdback period. Even after the hold is released, there can be delays. If you have a DDD on transcript (code 846), your money is coming - just be patient. The IRS sends the money through ACH which typically takes 1-5 business days depending on your bank.
If its leadership credit union they are notoriously slow with tax refunds. My cousin works there and says they intentionally hold them for a few extra days to "verify" or something. Try calling again and specifically asking if there's a hold for verification.
Really? That's messed up. I'll definitely ask about that specifically when I call them again tomorrow.
You need to start a trace. Call the IRS at 800-829-1040. But good luck getting through lol. I spent 4 days trying before I gave up and used claimyr.com to get a callback from an agent. Best decision ever - finally got my trace started and received my refund 2 weeks later. Found out they had sent my deposit to the wrong account even though my transcript showed everything was correct.
how much does claimyr cost? is it worth it?
It was 100% worth it for me. I was going insane trying to reach someone, and they had me talking to an agent within 2 hours. Considering I was waiting on a $2700 refund that was stuck in limbo, getting actual help was priceless. They don't guarantee you'll get your refund issue resolved, just that you'll get to talk to a human at the IRS who can help.
Its amazing how people get different processes. Mine got accepted 2/14, then sat with zero movement until 4/8 when suddenly all the codes appeared at once and I got my refund on 4/15. The IRS is wild.
That's actually a standard processing pattern called "bulk update." I learned that from taxr.ai - apparently the IRS batches certain returns together and processes them all at once.
i filed in march and still waiting. starting to feel like the irs put my refund in a vault and threw away the key š„²
Try using claimyr.com to get through to an agent. I was waiting for months and it turned out to be a simple verification issue they fixed in one call.
I filed in February and still nothing. No trace code. No updates. Transcript hasn't changed in 3 months. Starting to think my refund went to a black hole.
I tried calling the advocate line but they said they're not taking new cases unless its a hardship. Might try that trace number OP mentioned
If you need to talk to an actual IRS person try Claimyr (claimyr.com). It was the only way I could talk to a live agent after weeks of trying. Found out my return had been flagged for identity verification but they never sent me the letter!

Try downloading the IRS2Go app. Sometimes it has more updated info than the website. My WMR tool showed nothing but the app showed my direct deposit date.
