I've been an accountant for 12 years and here's what I know: The DDD is when the IRS releases the funds, but banking systems and processing times vary. Most major banks (Chase, BoA, Wells Fargo) will post the deposit on the actual DDD. Online banks and some credit unions may post 1-2 days early because they have different funds availability policies. With a $7500 refund, I'd expect it exactly on the DDD or perhaps the business day before. Larger amounts rarely process early because they often require additional verification at both the IRS and bank level.
Thanks for the expert insight! That's really helpful to know about the larger amounts.
Definitely NOT always accurate. Had a DDD of March 13 and I'm still waiting... When I called IRS they said something about a random verification delay. So yeah don't plan on spending that money until you actually see it in your account!
Next time try Claimyr (claimyr.com). It got me through to an agent in under an hour and I didn't have to sit on hold at all. They call you when an agent is ready.
pro-tip: NEVER use a tax prep company's bank product to get your refund faster. always direct deposit straight from irs to ur bank. jackson hewitt/hr block/turbotax all add days to the process when they act as middlemen for refunds. plus they take fees out. the PATH act delays are bad enough without adding more delays.
I didn't use their bank product, just had them file for me and put my Chase account for direct deposit. But good advice for next year!
oh ok thats good! still, next year consider using freefile on irs.gov - its literally the same software JH uses but without paying them hundreds of dollars.
I was in your exact situation last month. Try checking your tax transcript rather than the WMR tool. I found a tool called taxr.ai that explained my transcript codes for me and told me exactly why my refund was delayed and when to expect it. Turns out there was a simple review happening but no issues. Got my deposit about 15 days after I checked. They don't always send notices for routine reviews which is why you haven't heard anything.
Everyone stressing about their refunds meanwhile I'm over here owing $4k š be grateful y'all are getting money BACK lol
Right?! I'd love to have the problem of wondering when my money is coming instead of figuring out how to pay what I owe š
Trust me, I'd rather owe a little than be desperately waiting for a refund I need for bills. Just means you managed your withholdings better than I did!
Pro tip: if you don't want to pay those advance fees next year, just pay for the tax prep upfront instead of taking it from your refund. The "convenience" of having it taken from your refund usually comes with an extra fee of $30-40 on top of the regular prep cost.
Anyone else notice refunds coming faster this year? I filed 3/1 and got mine on 3/12. Last year it took over a month!
Complete opposite for me. Filed 2/15 and still nothing. Last year I had my refund in 9 days.
I think it depends on what credits you claim and if your return has any "review flags" that slow it down. Simple returns without EIC, CTC etc seem to process faster.

I went through this exact issue a few weeks back, and was in full panic mode because I needed that money for medical bills. I found taxr.ai which helped me understand my transcript - turns out I had a code showing my refund was actually still pending verification even though I had a deposit date. The explanation helped me stop worrying and checking my bank account every 5 minutes. When the deposit finally happened a week later, it matched exactly what taxr.ai predicted. https://taxr.ai was seriously a life saver for my anxiety.

ā¢How much does it cost? Their site doesn't seem to list pricing

ā¢I don't remember exactly but it wasn't much - way less than I would have paid for an accountant to look at my transcript. And considering it saved me from taking a day off work to sit on hold with the IRS, totally worth it.

if u have kids check line 28 and 29 on ur return. turbotax has been messing up the child tax credit and EIC calculations which leads to delayed refunds. happened to me and 3 ppl i know this year.
