First DEO payment timeline after approval - when should I expect it?
Finally got approved for my Florida unemployment benefits last Thursday and claimed my first week yesterday through CONNECT. The system shows my claim is active with a weekly benefit amount of $275, but I have no idea when I'll actually get paid. Nothing in the system tells me a timeline and I have bills due next week. Do payments usually come quickly after claiming your first week? Anyone know if I'll get it on the Way2Go card automatically or do I need to set up direct deposit? This is my first time dealing with DEO unemployment and I'm totally lost on what happens next.

If you claimed your week yesterday, you should see the payment hit your account in 2-3 business days IF there are no pending issues on your claim. Make sure your Payment Method is set up correctly in CONNECT. If you haven't specified direct deposit, it will default to the Way2Go card which takes about 7-10 days to arrive in the mail. You can check your payment status by going to the "View and Maintain Account Information" page and then "Payment History" - it will show when the payment was processed.

•Thanks! I just checked and it says my payment method is "debit card" so I guess that means the Way2Go card? I don't remember getting an option to choose direct deposit. Will they mail the card automatically or do I need to request it?

•Thanks for the info! Do you happen to know the number for Way2Go? And can I use the money before the physical card arrives?

The first payment timeline varies depending on your specific situation. Here's what usually happens: 1. First payment typically processes 1-3 business days after claiming your week 2. Payment method depends on what you selected during application 3. Direct deposit: 1-2 business days after processing 4. Way2Go card: Payment loaded 1-2 days after processing, but you need the physical card to access funds 5. The card ships automatically once your first payment processes Important: There's a waiting week in Florida, which is the first week you're eligible but don't get paid for. If you just filed recently, your first claimed week might be your waiting week (no payment). Check your CONNECT account under "View and Maintain Account Information" then "Payment History" to confirm.

•Wait, what?? There's a week we don't get paid for? That's crazy! I filed on April 12th and got approved on the 18th, then claimed my week yesterday for April 13-19. Will that be my waiting week? I really need this money ASAP.

THE WAITING WEEK IS SUCH BS!! they make u wait a whole week without pay when ur already struggling. i had to wait 2 WEEKS after claiming to get my first payment and another WEEK for the stupid card to come. DEO doesn't care that people have bills!! if u want to talk to someone, good luck getting thru on those phone lines. ive called 37 TIMES one day and got hung up on every single time!!!!

•Same thing happened to me! I got so frustrated trying to get through to someone at DEO. The phone system is absolutely useless.

After I claimed my weeks, I had to wait about 4 business days for payment to process. If you don't get it within a week, there might be an issue with your claim. My cousin had to wait 3 weeks for his first payment because they had an "adjudication issue" they never told him about. The system doesn't always update correctly to show issues.

•That's concerning. How would I know if there's an adjudication issue? My account just says "active" with a monetary determination, but I don't see anything about pending issues.

I was in the exact same situation back in February. After claiming my first week, I couldn't get any information about when I'd be paid either. I ended up wasting hours trying to call DEO with no luck - their phone system is a nightmare. I finally tried Claimyr (claimyr.com) and was able to get through to a DEO agent in about 20 minutes. They confirmed my payment was processing and explained the timeline. You can see how it works in this video: https://youtu.be/UzW_hbUy-ss?si=zORd51jeq1GX5Ldj It saved me from waiting in anxiety for days wondering if something was wrong with my claim. The agent was able to tell me exactly when my Way2Go card would arrive too.

To answer your follow-up questions: 1. Yes, "debit card" means the Way2Go card 2. The Way2Go card is mailed automatically once your first payment processes 3. You can't access funds until you have the physical card 4. If you filed April 12th and were approved April 18th, the week of April 13-19 would likely be your waiting week (unpaid) 5. Your first payable week would be April 20-26 if you claim it To check if this is your waiting week, look at your payment history page. If it shows "$0.00" for the week you claimed with a note about waiting week, that confirms it. You can add direct deposit by going to "View and Maintain Account Information" then "Payment Method" to update from debit card to direct deposit. This would apply to future payments.

•I just checked my payment history and you're right - it says "waiting week" with $0.00. That's so frustrating! I wish someone had explained this when I applied. So I need to claim another week before I'll see any money? And I still have to wait for that card to arrive?

@Profile5 - Yes, it really does work. I was skeptical too, but I was desperate after trying to call DEO for days. The DEO agent I spoke with was able to confirm everything about my claim status and when I'd get paid. Much better than stressing for days wondering what's happening.

To quickly address your other questions: 1. The Way2Go card customer service number is 1-833-888-2775 2. Unfortunately, you can't access the funds until you have the physical card 3. Yes, you'll need to claim your second week (which will be your first payable week) 4. The waiting week policy returned after the pandemic emergency period ended 5. You can call Way2Go to check if your card has been mailed and request expedited shipping This is frustrating, but hang in there - once you get past the initial waiting week and card arrival, future payments should be much more predictable.

•Thank you so much for all this information. At least now I know what to expect. I'll call Way2Go tomorrow and see if I can get the card expedited since I really need the money. And I'll make sure to claim my next week as soon as it's available.

I went through the exact same thing last month! The waiting is the worst part because DEO doesn't clearly explain the timeline anywhere. Just to add to what others have said - when you call Way2Go at 1-833-888-2775, they can tell you if your card has shipped and give you a tracking number. They can also expedite it for a small fee if you're in a bind. Also, once you get your card, download the Way2Go app - it makes checking your balance and transaction history much easier than calling. The first payment process is definitely the most stressful, but it gets smoother after that. Hang in there!

•This is really helpful, thank you! I had no idea there was a Way2Go app - that will definitely make things easier once I get the card. I'm definitely going to call them tomorrow about expediting it. It's so frustrating that DEO doesn't make any of this clear upfront. I feel like I'm learning everything the hard way through trial and error. At least now I know what to expect for future weeks. Thanks for taking the time to share your experience!

I'm going through this exact situation right now too! Just got approved last week and the uncertainty about payment timing is so stressful when you have bills piling up. Reading through all these responses has been incredibly helpful - I had no idea about the waiting week policy or that the Way2Go card could be expedited. It's really frustrating that DEO doesn't provide clear timelines or explanations about any of this process upfront. You basically have to rely on community knowledge like this thread to figure out what's actually happening with your claim. Thanks everyone for sharing your experiences - it makes this whole confusing process feel a little less overwhelming when you know others have been through the same thing.

•Completely agree with you! I'm also a newcomer to this whole DEO process and this thread has been a lifesaver. It's crazy how much important information isn't explained anywhere on their official site or in the CONNECT system. The fact that there's a waiting week that you don't get paid for should be clearly stated upfront, not something you have to discover by accident when checking your payment history. I was also totally confused about when payments would come and how the Way2Go card works. It really shouldn't be this hard to get basic information about your own unemployment benefits! At least we have communities like this where people share real experiences and actually help each other navigate this mess.

I'm in a similar boat - just got approved this week and claimed my first week yesterday. This thread has been incredibly eye-opening! I had no clue about the waiting week policy or that the Way2Go card takes so long to arrive. It's really frustrating that DEO doesn't explain any of this upfront. When you're already stressed about finances, the last thing you need is to be left guessing about when you'll actually see money. I'm definitely going to call Way2Go tomorrow to see about expediting the card since I have rent due next week. Thanks to everyone who shared their experiences - it's so much more helpful than anything on the official DEO website!

•I'm right there with you! Just went through approval myself last week and this whole process is so unnecessarily confusing. The waiting week thing really caught me off guard too - like why wouldn't they mention that somewhere obvious? I ended up calling Way2Go this morning after reading this thread and they confirmed my card shipped yesterday, plus I was able to get expedited delivery for $15. Totally worth it when you have bills due! The customer service rep was actually really helpful and explained that once the card arrives, I can set up direct deposit for future payments to avoid the whole card delay issue. It's honestly ridiculous that we have to piece together all this critical information from community forums instead of DEO just being transparent about their process.

Just wanted to add my experience for anyone else going through this - I got approved two weeks ago and went through the exact same confusion about payment timing. What really helped me was setting up text alerts through the Way2Go website once I got my card. They'll text you immediately when a payment is loaded, which gives you peace of mind instead of constantly checking your balance. Also, if you're really strapped for cash while waiting, some local food banks and utility assistance programs can help bridge the gap during that initial waiting period. The whole DEO system is definitely not user-friendly, but once you get through the first payment cycle, it becomes much more predictable. Don't hesitate to reach out to community resources while you're waiting - that's what they're there for!

•That's such great advice about the text alerts and community resources! I hadn't thought about food banks or utility assistance while waiting for the first payment. It's really smart to set up those safety nets since the whole process takes so much longer than you'd expect. I'm definitely going to look into local resources in my area and set up those text notifications once I get my card. It's amazing how much helpful information comes from people who've actually been through this process versus what DEO provides. Thanks for sharing those practical tips - they're going to help a lot of people getting started with this confusing system!

I'm going through this exact same situation right now! Just got my approval notification on Friday and claimed my first week over the weekend. Like everyone else here, I'm totally in the dark about when to expect payment and the CONNECT system gives you absolutely no guidance on timelines. Reading through all these responses has been so much more helpful than anything on the official DEO website. I had no idea about the waiting week policy - that's such a crucial piece of information that should be clearly explained during the application process! Now I'm wondering if I should call Way2Go proactively to check on my card status or if I should wait a few more days. It's really frustrating that we have to rely on community knowledge like this thread to understand basic things like payment processing times and card delivery. Thanks to everyone who shared their experiences - it makes this whole confusing process feel less overwhelming when you know others have navigated the same challenges!

•I'm in the exact same boat! Just got approved on Monday and this whole thread has been a goldmine of information that DEO should have provided upfront. I had no clue about the waiting week either - it's honestly misleading that they don't explain this clearly when you're applying. Based on what everyone's shared here, I'm planning to call Way2Go tomorrow to check if my card has been sent and ask about expedited shipping since I have bills coming due. It's so frustrating that we have to piece together all this critical information from community forums instead of getting clear guidance from DEO themselves. The fact that so many of us are going through the same confusion shows there's a real communication problem with their system. Thanks everyone for sharing your experiences - it's genuinely more helpful than anything I found on the official website!

Just went through this exact process last month and I feel for everyone dealing with this confusion! The lack of clear communication from DEO is honestly unacceptable when people are already stressed about their finances. Here's what I learned that might help: 1. If your claim shows "active" with a monetary determination, you're likely good to go - just need to get through the waiting week 2. The Way2Go card usually ships 2-3 business days after your first payment processes (even if it's $0 for waiting week) 3. You can call Way2Go at 1-833-888-2775 to check shipping status and request expedited delivery for about $15 4. Once you have the card, you can switch to direct deposit for future payments which is much faster 5. Set up text alerts through Way2Go's website - they'll notify you immediately when payments are loaded The whole system is frustrating but once you get through this initial hurdle, it becomes much more predictable. Don't hesitate to use local resources like food banks or utility assistance programs while you're waiting - that's exactly what they're there for during these gaps. Hang in there!

•This is incredibly helpful information - thank you for laying it all out so clearly! I'm brand new to this whole unemployment process and just got approved yesterday, so I'm right at the beginning of dealing with all this confusion. Your step-by-step breakdown is exactly what I needed to hear. I had no idea I could call Way2Go to check on shipping status before even receiving the card, and the tip about expedited delivery for $15 is definitely something I'm going to do since I have rent due next week. It's honestly mind-boggling that DEO doesn't provide any of this basic timeline information upfront - like you said, people are already stressed about finances and then you're left completely in the dark about when you'll actually see money. The fact that we have to rely on community knowledge from people who've been through it is really telling about how broken their communication system is. I'm definitely going to look into local assistance programs while I wait too. Thanks again for taking the time to share such detailed and practical advice!

I'm going through this exact same situation right now! Just got approved this week after weeks of waiting, and like everyone else here, I'm completely in the dark about payment timelines. This thread has been absolutely invaluable - I learned more in 10 minutes reading these responses than I did from hours of trying to navigate the CONNECT system. The waiting week policy is such a shock! How is this not clearly explained during the application process? When you're already struggling financially, finding out you won't get paid for your first eligible week feels like a cruel surprise. I'm definitely calling Way2Go tomorrow to check on my card status and request expedited shipping. Based on everyone's experiences here, it sounds like being proactive is the way to go rather than just waiting and hoping for the best. Thanks to everyone who shared their experiences and practical tips - this community support makes such a difference when DEO's official communication is so lacking. It's honestly frustrating that we have to rely on each other to figure out basic information about our own benefits, but I'm grateful this knowledge sharing exists!

•I'm in the exact same boat as everyone here! Just got my approval notification yesterday and this thread has been such a lifesaver. I had absolutely no clue about the waiting week - that's such a critical piece of information that should be front and center during the application process, not something you discover by accident. It's honestly shocking how little DEO explains about their own system. I'm planning to call Way2Go first thing tomorrow morning to check if my card has shipped and definitely going to pay for expedited delivery. With bills piling up, waiting an extra week for regular shipping just isn't an option. The $15 fee seems totally worth it for peace of mind. What really gets me is how we're all going through the identical confusion and frustration - this clearly shows DEO has a major communication problem. We shouldn't have to rely on community forums to understand basic things like payment timelines and card delivery processes. But I'm so grateful for everyone sharing their experiences here - it's made this overwhelming process feel much more manageable knowing I'm not alone in this confusion!

I just went through this exact process a few weeks ago and can totally relate to the frustration! The lack of clear information from DEO is unreal when you're already stressed about finances. Here's what actually happened with my timeline: Got approved on a Tuesday, claimed my first week on Wednesday. That week ended up being my waiting week ($0), but the Way2Go card still shipped out about 3 days later. I called Way2Go using the number others mentioned (1-833-888-2775) and was able to track the card and pay for expedited shipping. My second week of claiming was my first actual payment - it processed on a Friday and was loaded to my card the following Monday. So from approval to first real payment was about 10 days total. Pro tip: Once you get the card, immediately set up the Way2Go mobile app and text alerts. It makes tracking payments so much easier than constantly calling or checking online. And definitely switch to direct deposit after your first payment if you can - cuts out the card delay for future weeks. The whole system is needlessly complicated, but hang in there! Once you get past this first hurdle, it becomes much more predictable. The waiting week policy is brutal but at least now you know what to expect.
