heads up - make sure u claim all ur weeks BEFORE doing the quarterly thing. my buddy did it backwards and his payments got delayed by 3 weeks
Oh that's really good to know! I have weeks to claim right now so I'll do that first.
Just wanted to follow up and see if you were able to complete your quarterly reapplication in CONNECT? Did everything go smoothly?
Yes! I followed your instructions and it worked perfectly. I claimed my weeks first like someone suggested and then did the reapplication. It was actually much simpler than I expected. Just had to verify employment info and my work search activities. Already got confirmation that my benefits will continue. Thanks everyone for your help!
random but is anyone else's CONNECT site acting weird lately? keeps logging me out when i try to claim weeks
I'm confused about something. If you get $125/week and have $3800 left, isn't that like 30 more weeks of payments? But Florida only gives 12 weeks total right? So you wouldn't be able to use it all anyway? Or am I missing something?
You've identified an important point. Florida currently provides a maximum of 12 weeks of benefits (this can go up to 23 weeks when state unemployment is very high, but we're at the minimum now). So even if the benefit year didn't end in December, OP would still be limited to 12 weeks total regardless of the monetary balance. The monetary balance is calculated based on previous wages, but doesn't guarantee you'll be eligible to claim that full amount.
Quick update to my earlier comment - I just checked my records, and when I had weeks in 'Hold in Excess' status last year, calling and specifically requesting a supervisor made a big difference. Regular agents often don't have the security clearance to release holds. Ask for a Tier 2 agent or supervisor who can specifically address 'Hold in Excess' status weeks. Also, if you can't find a new monetary determination letter in your CONNECT inbox, request that they send one while you're on the phone. That letter will explain exactly how your new weekly benefit amount was calculated. Without that document, you can't effectively challenge the amount if it's incorrect.
Try calling right when they open at 7:30am. That's when I had the most luck before I started using Claimyr. The hold times are shorter then too.
Finally got my DEO account unlocked after completing ID.me verification, but I'm in total shock at what I found! Apparently someone used my identity to work at THREE different jobs I've never even heard of and claimed unemployment benefits. I've worked at the same company for over 2 years (before and after COVID) and have all my paystubs to prove it. The system is showing income from places I've never worked and claims filed that I never submitted??!! I'm uploading all my legitimate paystubs and documentation now, but what else should I do? Has anyone dealt with identity theft in the CONNECT system before? Will this affect my legitimate claim? I'm freaking out!!
Just an update on my situation I mentioned earlier - it took almost 10 weeks, but DEO finally cleared the fraudulent claims from my account. Had to submit the SAME documents FOUR different times because they kept "losing" them. The system is completely BROKEN but it does eventually get resolved if you're persistent enough. Just prepare for a long battle with bureaucracy.
10 weeks is better than 4 months at least... Thanks for sharing your experience. Did they make you go through fact-finding interviews for each fake job, or did they handle it all at once?
While you're waiting for DEO to resolve this, make sure you keep claiming your weeks as normal (if you're eligible). Document each time you claim weeks with screenshots. Also, check your CONNECT inbox daily for any fact-finding questionnaires or requests for additional information - these often have strict deadlines. If your legitimate claim gets denied during this process, remember you have the right to appeal within 20 days of the determination. Many identity theft victims have to go through the appeal process to get their legitimate benefits. Lastly, if more than 3-4 weeks pass without any updates on your fraud report, contact your state representative's office. They often have dedicated staff who can help expedite DEO issues.
Thank you! I've been claiming my weeks but wasn't taking screenshots - I'll start doing that now. Good tip about contacting my state rep if this drags on too long. I appreciate all the help everyone's provided!
Something to consider - if your second employer was out of state or didn't properly report your wages to Florida's unemployment system, you'll definitely need to provide that documentation. Also, the wage base period for 2025 claims is a bit different - they look at Oct 2023 - Sept 2024 for base wages, not 2019. Are you sure 2019 is the relevant year for your claim?
Oh wait - you're right! I just double-checked my determination letter and they're looking at 2023-2024, not 2019. I've been stressing about the wrong thing! Need to check those quarters instead. Thank you for pointing this out!
Glad I could help! DEO's letters can be really confusing. Make sure you look at the Base Period box on your Monetary Determination letter - it shows exactly which quarters they're using to calculate your benefits. Then check if all your employers during those quarters are listed correctly with the right wage amounts.
Just did that. Looks like they're missing my income from my side job during Q4 2023. Going to submit that documentation ASAP. Thanks for saving me from sending in the wrong info!
I'm at my wits end dealing with this DEO nightmare. Applied back in January and have been stuck in some kind of limbo since then. My account was completely locked until mid-March (no explanation why), and now I've got 27 WEEKS worth of claims all sitting in pending status! They suddenly asked for my 2019 W2 even though I successfully claimed benefits in 2020 without any issues. I've called hundreds of times but either get disconnected or can't get through at all. FINALLY found a solution yesterday that might help others trapped in 'pending purgatory' like me. Contact your local legislative representative! I reached out to mine and she's actually going to speak directly with the HEAD of DEO about my case. Apparently there's a DEO policy they don't advertise - if you haven't seen payment or account changes in 30+ days, they're required to escalate and resolve within 2 weeks. My rep said documentation helps - save all email confirmations, screenshot call logs, etc. If you're stuck in pending hell, here's where you find your representative: https://www.myfloridahouse.gov/findyourrepresentative. Still waiting but at least something is happening now!
anyone know if this works for overpayment issues too? deo saying i owe $4200 but it was their mistake
Yes, legislative representatives can assist with overpayment issues as well. Make sure you've already filed an appeal through the CONNECT system (you only have 20 days from the date of the overpayment notice to appeal). Provide your representative with a copy of your appeal confirmation and any evidence you have that the overpayment was due to DEO error rather than claimant error. If the overpayment was truly due to a DEO mistake, your representative can request a waiver review, which could result in the overpayment being forgiven. Document-heavy cases like overpayments sometimes take longer to resolve than simple pending payment issues.
UPDATE: My representative's office just called me back! They submitted my case to their DEO contact yesterday and said I should see movement within 7-10 business days. The assistant specifically mentioned that 27 weeks of pending payments is "way outside the acceptable timeframe" and they're marking it as urgent. She also said they've had dozens of similar cases in recent months, so everyone is right about this being a widespread issue. Will update again when (hopefully) payments start moving!
That's great news! Looking forward to hearing that your payments come through. The legislative route really seems to be the most effective solution when you're trapped in the DEO maze.
ANYONE ELSE GET THEIR ACCOUNT LOCKED RIGHT AFTER GETTING PAYMENTS?? I finally got paid last month and then 2 days later my account was locked for "verification" and I'm STILL locked out! This system is DESIGNED to frustrate people into giving up!!
That happened to me too. It's because the system automatically flags accounts with backdating adjustments for fraud review. You need to complete another ID.me verification. Go to the DEO homepage, click on the ID.me link (don't try to log into CONNECT first), and run through the verification process again. It'll unlock within 48 hours usually.
Just to follow up on my earlier comment - make sure you're still claiming weeks while waiting for the federal portion to arrive. Some people think they don't need to claim weeks after getting approved for backdating, but you absolutely do need to continue claiming on schedule or you'll miss out on future payments. Log in every two weeks and complete your work search requirements!
Oh that's a good reminder! I wasn't sure if I needed to keep claiming since I'm employed now (just started a new job last week). My claim is just for those 5 weeks when I was laid off. Should I still log in and report that I'm working now?
Yes, definitely log in and report that you've returned to work! You need to officially close your claim by reporting your employment status. If you don't, the system might continue considering you as unemployed, which could potentially create an overpayment situation later. Go to the "Change/Update Contact Information" section and there should be an option to report return to work. This properly closes your claim in the system.
Ugh my aunt had this EXACT problem last month! She finally got her backpay after filing an official appeal. There's a form for it on CONNECT under the determinations section. Takes like 2-3 weeks but they HAVE to review it then.
This is incorrect information. You cannot appeal a backpay request that is still pending review. The appeal process is only available after you've received an official determination (approval or denial). Filing an appeal for a claim that's still in process will actually delay things further as it will create a duplicate case in the system. If your backpay request has been pending for more than 30 days, the correct procedure is to submit a Request for Assistance through your CONNECT portal, selecting "Payment Issue" as the category and "Retroactive Payment" as the subcategory. This flags your case for expedited review. Source: I handle unemployment cases as part of my legal practice.
UPDATE: I finally got through!! Used a combination of the early morning call (tried at 7:28am exactly) + the key sequence that @helpful_guidance suggested. Had to wait 47 minutes on hold, but eventually spoke with someone who could help! Turns out there was a "fact finding" request buried in my account that I never received notification about. The agent helped me complete it right over the phone, and said my backpay should be processed within 5-7 business days. THANK YOU everyone for all your suggestions!
I just went through this last week! The Issue ID is different from the Determination ID. My issue ID was actually hiding in the CONNECT inbox attached to the determination message! Did you check there? Also the format is usually 2 letters followed by 10 numbers if that helps you identify it.
wait thats weird mine was ALL numbers, no letters. are u sure ur looking at the right thing? my issue ID was like 123456789012 (not my real one obviously lol
Hmm now I'm confused! Mine definitely starts with 2 letters. Maybe there are different formats? Either way, I found mine in the CONNECT inbox message.
To clarify some confusion in this thread: There are actually TWO different ID numbers related to determinations: 1. Issue ID Number - This is a 12-digit number (all numeric) that identifies the specific issue/determination 2. Document ID - This sometimes appears on determination letters and may include letters For appeals, you specifically need the 12-digit Issue ID Number. The most reliable place to find it is in CONNECT under the Determination Summary, then clicking on the specific determination, then viewing the details. If you still can't locate it, call DEO and request it specifically.
Ohhhh that explains it! I was looking at the Document ID. Thanks for clearing that up!

CareerSource offices can help with regular claim issues but they DON'T handle fraud investigations!! They literally told me this when I went there last month for the exact same problem. They just gave me the same DEO fraud number that nobody answers. 🙄
