Desperate for DEO backpay - need alternative contact methods to reach a human!

I've been trying for THREE WEEKS to get someone at DEO to help with my backpay issue from March-April 2025. Every single time I call the main number, I get stuck in the automated system that just tells me to check CONNECT for updates. I've uploaded all my documentation proving I was eligible during those weeks, but my account still shows $0 for that period. The chatbot is useless and just sends me in circles. I've left 6 voicemails on their callback system and nobody has called me back. I'm literally about to get evicted because I was counting on that backpay ($1,850) to catch up on rent. Does ANYONE know of another phone number, email address, or secret trick to actually reach a human being who can help? I'm beyond desperate at this point. Thanks in advance to anyone who can help me break through this DEO wall of silence.

I was in the same boat last month trying to get my backpay processed. After wasting hours on those automated systems, I found a service called Claimyr that actually got me through to a live DEO agent in under 30 minutes. They basically call DEO for you and hold your place in line. I watched their demo video first (https://youtu.be/UzW_hbUy-ss?si=zORd51jeq1GX5Ldj) and then tried their service at claimyr.com. The agent I spoke with was able to review my case and process my backpay that had been stuck for almost 2 months. Seriously saved me from getting my car repossessed.

Thank you!! I've never heard of this before. Did you have to provide a lot of personal info to use it? I'm a little nervous about sharing my SSN with random services...

Try calling exactly at 7:29am - right before they officially open at 7:30am. That's how I got through after weeks of trying. Also, have you submitted a specific request for backpay through CONNECT? There's a separate form you have to fill out under the "Determinations and Pending Issues" section. Many people miss this step and just assume DEO will automatically process backpay.

I'll try the early morning call trick tomorrow! And yes, I did submit the backpay request form - it's been sitting in "Under Review" status for 22 days now. That's why I'm so frustrated and need to talk to someone directly.

DEO is the WORST!!!! I had to email my state representative to get any help with my backpay. Suddenly DEO cared about my case when a politician's office was asking questions. Took 4 months to get my money tho.

This actually works. My cousin did the same thing, contacted her state rep and got her issue resolved in like a week after months of no response.

Former DEO contractor here. When calling the main line, immediately press 5, then 2, then 1, then 6 - this bypasses several automated menus. Then when it asks for your claimant ID, enter it VERY SLOWLY (3-4 second pause between each digit). The system often kicks you to a human if it thinks you're having trouble entering your information. Also, backpay requests are handled by a specific team. If you reach a regular agent, explicitly ask them to transfer you to the "Retroactive Payment Unit" - using those exact words. Regular agents aren't trained or authorized to process backpay claims. Finally, make sure you've uploaded ALL supporting documentation for those weeks (proof you were job searching, any medical documentation if applicable, etc). Many backpay claims get denied simply because of incomplete documentation.

Thank you so much for these insider tips! I didn't know about the special key sequence or the slow entry trick. Will definitely try this tomorrow. And I never knew to ask for the Retroactive Payment Unit specifically - the one time I did reach someone, they just said they couldn't help me but didn't offer to transfer me anywhere.

I didn't realize CareerSource could help with this! There's one about 20 minutes from me. What kind of documents should I bring? Just ID and maybe printouts of my CONNECT account showing the missing weeks?

@OP - To answer your question from earlier, Claimyr doesn't ask for your SSN or anything like that. You just provide your phone number so they can call you back when they get a DEO agent on the line. Then you talk directly to the DEO person. The service just helps you skip the hold time and busy signals.

Oh that's good to know! I might try that if the other methods don't work. The early morning calling trick didn't work for me today - still got the same automated system.

Ugh my aunt had this EXACT problem last month! She finally got her backpay after filing an official appeal. There's a form for it on CONNECT under the determinations section. Takes like 2-3 weeks but they HAVE to review it then.

This is incorrect information. You cannot appeal a backpay request that is still pending review. The appeal process is only available after you've received an official determination (approval or denial). Filing an appeal for a claim that's still in process will actually delay things further as it will create a duplicate case in the system. If your backpay request has been pending for more than 30 days, the correct procedure is to submit a Request for Assistance through your CONNECT portal, selecting "Payment Issue" as the category and "Retroactive Payment" as the subcategory. This flags your case for expedited review. Source: I handle unemployment cases as part of my legal practice.

UPDATE: I finally got through!! Used a combination of the early morning call (tried at 7:28am exactly) + the key sequence that @helpful_guidance suggested. Had to wait 47 minutes on hold, but eventually spoke with someone who could help! Turns out there was a "fact finding" request buried in my account that I never received notification about. The agent helped me complete it right over the phone, and said my backpay should be processed within 5-7 business days. THANK YOU everyone for all your suggestions!

Great news! Those hidden fact-finding items are a common issue. For anyone else reading this in the future, always check your CONNECT inbox AND the "Fact Finding" section separately - sometimes notifications fail to send but the items are still there waiting for your response.
